Hey, it's me Zzineohp! Some of my videos are good.
How do you become an Alpha Male?
Fake alpha gurus will tell you to "be well-dressed!" "present yourself confidently!" "be assertive!" If you're not out there, fighting other dudes, claiming women as your property, and doing whatever it takes to guaranteed the survival of your gene pool, then you're not a real alpha. I am a real alpha. Do you know how uncomfortable that skirt was? I had to give myself gender dysphoria for a video. But it's worth it, because now women won't stop breeding with me. It's become tiring. Send help.

10 Linguistics Videos at Once

In this Video, Zzineohp tests out a new way of editing videos: poorly. I didn't put much heart or soul into this video, and it probably won't be very good. Maybe I should rethink the strategy of weekly uploads; either that or find some new ideas. But like I said, the show must go on. Actually, I don't think I did say that. Well, I probably said it at SOME point in my life. 0:00 Introduction 0:1...

oOOOOOooo so you guys think you can do better than me? I doubt it. I DOUBT IT! Actually just show up. You won't. Y'all need to start fearing me, otherwise bad things are gonna start happening. In this episode, Zzineohp expands on his Phonology of birds, by engaging in the Morphology of birds, and the nitty-gritty of phonology as it applies to linguistics, rather than the raw analysis of sounds....
The IPA has FAILED (at broad transcription)

Not too fond of the IPA. I think I articulated my points well enough this time around. The symbols we use for phonemes are arbitrary, and there are two schools of thought: give people a vague idea, and try to convey the actual complexity. I just think it's better to open the door to non-linguists. 0:00 Introduction 0:21 the Realization Machine 1:30 Changing the Symbol doesn't fix anything 2:05 ...

Zzineohp does whatever he wants. He doesn't care about the views, he wants to make a video about Bioacoustics, and so he makes. However, he concedes that he only put in the word "IPA" in this video's title because he knows you Linguists are drawn to the IPA, like a bloated horsefly is drawn to the rotting flesh of a squirrel's carcass. I was inspired by a series EtymologyNerd ran early on his channel-he would take an animal, and make a constructed language, attempting to mimic the sound animals use to communicate. Tones? In MY Indo-European language?

In this video, Zzineohp discusses Pitch Accent, a fascinating feature of Proto-Indo-European (and many other languages), and how tonogenesis can be achieved, in a sick, epic, and frankly, sick way. Along the way, he discusses some of PIE's wacky inflection patterns, the loanwords that occur in Chinese-adjacent languages, and the limited vocabulary present in Proto-Indo-European. Men think about the Roman Empire at least five times a day. Me personally, I think about it about once every minute, but that’s only because I’m currently recording a video about the Roman Empire. Well, technically, I’m currently writing the description for that video, but by the time you see this, I won’t be making a video about the Roman Empire anymore. The point is, what is the Roman Empire?...

How do you make an Indo-European language? Well, you have to start with Proto-Indo-European. From there...well, what happens from there? If only someone made a video-oh wait, that's this video! Could you not make the same argument for violent urges, implying playing violent video games is legally correct, but not “morally correct” since it’s letting violent urges thrive? Or for kinks like sadomasochism, or consensual non-consent? Also, who says that the green box is preferable to the yellow one? I’m not a therapist, but my understanding is that when you have something bothering you suppressing it forever is generally not good. Maybe if you are a pedophile going from loli to abusing real children is a real slippery slope, but how do we know that it’s not the other way around: that a pedophile who keeps completely suppressing their desires is just bound to crack eventually and try to hurt a real child? Psychology is complex, we need real data to find out which of the two left boxes is actually preferable.
well I think the current Understanding is that violent video games don't really correlate with violent urges at all
@@zzineohp that’s my point. Since we know people who enjoy violence in fictional contexts aren’t necessarily predisposed to commit violent acts in real life, why would the same not apply to pedophilia versus loli/shotacon?
the fact you referenced neu! in that spreadsheet
English wet is an o-grade causative *uod-ie- with Germanic i-umlaut.
0:36 Where did that L come from though?
well h3 is the back rounded laryngeal, so my thought process was velar > dark l > clear l. Obviously that's more common in reverse, but maaybe there was hypercorrection or smthn, like what happened with "herb"

Gif is not jif because it is translated into most other languages as /gif/ If GIF is not a property of English language but the whole world, then it should conform to be easy to identify and pronounce
Lots of words are like that, just because most languages don't have a soft g. Orange. Germanium. That's just how it works.
@@zzineohp Well in these cases entire words were borrowed. But GIF is just a string of latin letters so the prononciation gimmicks of english must not be important here

Thank you for your community service🙏🏻🙏🏻
6:39 This is one of the best things to understand about languages. No languages are “more complicated”, any complication arises to express ideas more efficiently
I learnt today that GIF stands for graphics interchange format. I learnt also that I now have an extremely valid reason to pronounce it with a hard g. gif with a hard g is literally just the first sound of each word comprising it
Can you name any other acronym that follows that rule
The presentation was very nice, thanks for the lesson I liked the drag part, it showed how evolution of a word could cause such a vast variaties of words just in one language by borrowing from cousin languages. I wished there was ipa, but it was still very readable, so thanks for adding some sort of phonetic transcription, it helped a lot.
I thought this was gonna be a meme video where you edited the videos to complete each other's sentences or smth, but this is cool too. 👍
Inventer of "h1, h2, h3" be like: "let's make up letters that never existed so we can make up more cognates out of nowhere"

8:28 For those unaware, "John Johnson" was the fake name used by Guy Fawx during his plot to blow up king Charles II. That mask is called a "Guy Fawx" mask.
So your point is, when a language has insane allophonic variation (like in English), then phonemic transcription is useless. Well, it's not really a problem of the IPA, rather, it's a problem of phonology as a whole. Also, narrow transcription doesn't have to be as narrow as you can possibly make it. I could transcribe caught as [kʰɔːt], and it still would be understood that it might also be [kʰɔʔ], or [kɔt̚], or pretty much anything that at least a little resembles the pronunciation of caught. Narrow transcription doesn't have to be 100% narrow. Besides, the IPA was made for linguists who study the language. It was made for people who know what phonemes and allophones are, and where to look to find out what a symbol means. Dictionaries (which are usually made for non-linguists) use IPA transcription, for some reason, but blame dictionaries, not the IPA.
1:45 the burst of air used for plosives is.... more forceful than in other languages?? something being uvular requires more air to be used??
Yeah, its called aspiration
@@zzineohp if aspiration is what makes it sound aggressive, why don't English speakers think that about their own language? I think it's just cause German has been memed to oblivion by people who don't know much about it, like in the schmetterling rage comic
@@selladore4911 yeah that's probably a big part of it, but i do like my aspiration theory
