  • Zzineohp does whatever he wants. He doesn't care about the views, he wants to make a video about Bioacoustics, and so he makes. However, he concedes that he only put in the word "IPA" in this video's title because he knows you Linguists are drawn to the IPA, like a bloated horsefly is drawn to the rotting flesh of a squirrel's carcass. Hope you enjoy!

You left the bounds of things we think of as able to vocalize one third into the video and yet things kept getting more insane. You're haveing way too much fun with this.
...An insect language consisting of percussive consonants and tonal vowels would be a fun Cursed Conlang.

I was wondering if three-dimensional vowel IPA chart is possible for some species...
It probably is, but this doesn't apply to our planet lol

I mean, you can already do it with human vowels, just make the third axis rounded vs unrounded.

@@tonydai782 That actually makes so much sense.

Well, by the most extensive accounts it already is, it's just the 3rd axis is r-coloration which is pretty rare in languages

damn, video slaps, and the "PAUSE" near the end killed me. I'd love to hear more about alaryngeal speech, as I've never heard about it before!
On a more personal note, you've contributed to inspiring me again to finally pursue a lingüístics further from just little "conlangs" (if they ever reached that far), so yeah, thanks :3

Hm, I was really suspecting that last video would do great. I think the bloated houseflies will help this one, though.

Awesome content man, ive binged most of your stuff after this vid got recommended to me. I definitely agree with others in the comments talking about your audio, putting a bit more care into it would go a long way. Incredible stuff! Excited to see what videos you make in the future :)

A very cool interdisciplinary exploration, you've gotta be pretty smart about both linguistics/phonology and zoology/phylogeny to pull this kind of thing off. Very impressive
But for the love of all that is holy, turn the music down or your voice up, I was acoustically assaulted like 5 times in this video
