Some say, that while in his original pod, the infant primarch mortarion had the ancient Terran song 'don't fear the reaper' stuck on a loop. How it affected him is unknown.
Tactica Imperialis well if we are doing this Russ. listened to Celtic Frost for his ride. Saguineous Interview with a Vampire. I wonder who had testudo the iron man on the loop in the pod
Even then he wasn't "fully" converted.... he reluctantly submits to Nurgle in order to save his Legion. Remember how much he resented Big E for killing the overlord on Barbarus? Now consider how much he must resent Nurgle.
a campaign with Vulkan and Mortarion is interesting because while Vulkan respected him he didn't like his mania with leaving nothing alive and the earth salted so to speak
As mentioned Death Guard are from Albia as are the Iron Hands. I always imagined the Death Guard being more English as there's the use of (anglo-Saxon) Huscarls mentioned in the Horus Heresy books and there's a stereotypical WW1 trench warfare/spirit of the blitz to them. I think the Iron Hands are more Scottish due to the dour stereotype and the old angry/good with machines and engineering trope.
I really enjoyed this, like I can see you doing a legitimate documentary for this. If only there were videos to accompany it in the background, like see them in action
I want to say the Overlords were not Xenos, given 'Mort' having Terran roots. It's too much of a coincidence for me. But whatever they were by the time they ruled over Barbarus, some kind of runaway ruling class given over to Chaos in a way that allowed them animate the dead. Now, I'm not saying it was Nurgle, but...
Well...I may have given him the knowledge on Astartes Geneseed, Power-armor, and weapons...What else was I supposed to do with those papers that were collecting a millenias worth of dust? >.>
so nuggle turns people making it seem like it's their fault but it really never is?cause he said the deathwatch were sorry for being traitors cause of their weaknesses.
I always took the conversations between Mort and Jag to show that Mort kind of liked him. I don't know how much the feeling was returned as Jag was so socially awkward but still.
I think the Mortarion-Khan relationship, as it were, would be similar to that of Horus and Khan. Both acknowledged that they were warriors, not much more, even if they were incredibly good at waging war it was pretty much all they knew. As a result, they had a healthy level of respect and were almost kindred spirits - I wager that in a way, Khan saw Mortarion in a similar manner, though Khan's pro-psyker attitude will have probably been a contentious issue for them.
Tactica Imperialis After re-reading path of heaven I agree with you. Too many books to keep up with and I sometimes equate page time to comradery in hindsight.
I think Mort kind of liked all of his brothers (With probably one exception, try to guess who.) But this was compounded by the fact that Mortarion was an asshole. If Perterabo had the personality of an angry teenager who punches wholes in drywall because dad took a way his computer. Mortarion was the stereotypical teenager whose is apathetic to a fault and responds to everything with a "Ugh, whatever..." While silently hating everybody around him.
Garro didnt seal the door thou.. it was his human servent who closed the door trapping him and the traitors in the room with the virus bomb and garror had to watch or ear him die infront of him >.> Garror already has a good bit of lore let the hooman servent story be kinda told that all servents of the death guard were brave and willing to die for their duty as much as the space marine counter part.
So I've never been able to acertain whether they adopted the plague marine aspect when it happened or whether it was forced upon them and surplanted the sentience of the individual marine, like how existential does it get?

Those people probably also say that Curze's pod was constantly playing episodes of Batman, probably the Christian Bale movies in particular.
Tactica Imperialis well if we are doing this Russ. listened to Celtic Frost for his ride. Saguineous Interview with a Vampire. I wonder who had testudo the iron man on the loop in the pod
Felix Chaplin I heard a similar rumor that says the first words the infant fulgrim heard were "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL"
Or Creeping Death and thing that should not be...cause yeah...Tzeentch is a jerk.
Felix Chaplin I'm not going to say that you are wrong...
I was always surprised that mortarion fell to chaos of all people, he pretty much had to be tortured by nurgle to be fully converted
Tough love is occasionally needed.

Derek Burge Nurgle Worshippers do have a tendency to have quite a cheery demeanor
Mortarian is also vaping in that image. Interesting bunch, those Death Guard.
He is the next traitor primarch to fight Papa Smurf. Confirmed.
That is true, but when I wrote this we didn't have that information so I couldn't include it.

Death Guard are from Old Albia (present day albania.) Nothing to do with England.
I do so enjoy listening to your videos while I work on things. Your lore videos are my favorite, by far.
I swear a squeal of excitement rippled through the warp from the realm of slaanesh, then again that's pretty normal so......
the deathguard are really cool nice vid (good work)
The post heresy death guard are quite the goregrind metal album covers

That would be awesome, but I don't have the animation skill to do that myself nor do I have the funds to pay someone to do it! Maybe one day

Hey hey!
Nurgle was making a play for Mortarion including choosing where he ended up. He's a long game schemer.

@@Illiadofmalorne Nurgle is the longest schemer. He knows that, eventually, everything rots

Mort will return since his Marines are fighting the New guys
Matt I am on my way. mwah ha ha!
Sure enough...
In the audio book Mortarion's Heart it is heavily implied Nathaniel Garro and Janus the first grandmaster of the Gray Knights are the same person.
However, we know from the book The Last Son of Prospero that Janus is Revuel Arvida - check the Thousand Sons video for the full details
wouldnt the death guards selfhate be perfect for the service of Malal?
THERE IS NO SUCH INDIVIDUAL BEARING THAT NAME
Shut up he's not canon.
He just got reskinned. Everyone calm down with this not canon shit.
Teros Malal doesn't exist, shut up!

Will you handle how Primaris Marines are created (when compared to their standard counterparts?)
The video was made ahead of time, so it won't cover everything we now know or think we know. But they're in there, yes.
I am convinced that Albia is their version of the old pre Roman name for Britain, Albion.
James Horsey Walsh could have been Albania.
Scotland used to be known as Alba so maybe it could be Scotland.
Death Guard are the Best Guard
So here is a serious question, is Typhus more powerful than Mortarion, now?
Some say so. He is certainly higher in Nurgle's regard, and seems to have received more gifts
