    Hiking and Mountain Biking with my Border Collie are the things I most love in life! Without Leena to share adventures with I just would not be happy. You talk about Cooper the same way I do with my best buddy too. I love it man and agree with you giving our pups the absolute best quality of life we can offer. It's the least we can do for all the unconditional love they give to us.

    You seem like a really nice person and I really like how many thoughts you put into your dog whilst hiking! Very good video!
    My feelings towards my dog are like those of a mum towards her toddler/child, which might sound a bit weird. This summer I'm going to hike through nearly all British national parks (I'm from continental Europe). Of course my dog is coming with me and of course I planned this trip with his needs in mind - no too long car drives, always accomodation close to some nature and no boring city-trips. Just like with a child I try to make this as a fun experience for both of us.

    If you go hiking small trips when he is young, you train a young dog automatically. Like staying with you, listening to come back to you, stay were he is and so on. Everybody loves a young dog, but I knew when mine is growing up most people will find him threatening. So I start early and this was the right decision for him and for me. Remember, there a lot crazy people sometimes out there. They afraid from a dog but with a rifle with telescope sight they like to kill other animals for fun. So I really go in the wild and I see almost never other people. And if we do, I never had any problems, they see directly that he is listening very well and also is in the protect mode. He sits then right in front of me and is only looking. When he is standing up, I know he feels the other person is stressed and is very alert. If you don't know your dog very well or he is not always listening to you, don't go in the wilderness with him, you must be learning him first a lot.

    we allways wear a dogbelt with the most important firstaid stuff. Why not do the same, if your dog wears a backpackharness?

    any thoughts on dog rain jacket (i use ruffwear approach pack)? for when it rains and will be going in tent with dog, or better to not carry rain jacket and just try to dry with a light towel?

  • @EverFlo777

    I was wondering what do you do when you encounter wild animals? What about ticks? I don't want myself or my dogs to get Lyme disease. Where did you get the Velcro leash? I am a novice hiker what places do you recommend hiking with your dogs in the Midwest or east coast area? I know I got lots of questions sorry.

      you can buy or make bug repellant for your dog, it helps keep away ticks and fleas.

    • @EverFlo777
      @EverFlo777 7 лет назад

      Anika Ahlstrom Thanks for the info. Our dog is allergic to ivermectin and could die from it if taken in large amount. She is already on trifexis and didn't want to over do with a tick preventative. Where we live we were not concern about ticks because of the low percentage of Lyme disease. We recently went hiking out of state and she had a tick on her. We called the vet in the area and he said not to worry.

    • @crystalBall9287
      @crystalBall9287 6 лет назад

      Cold Dust I'm not sure what's in Bravecto but that is good for my dog. Maybe check out the ingredients and check with your vet. It's good against fleas and ticks.
      Another thing, we made a repellent with peppermint essential oil (diluted in a safe carrier oil) and that worked great. The ticks still tried to get my dogs but none could attach. The ticks came from my dogs walking through the grass so it looked like the fleas were actually trying to escape LoL
