Also, there are a few minor mistakes that might confuse the spectator, like the explanation of an ace. It is said in the video that an ace is when the player serves the ball legally and the opponent cannot return the ball, even if he touches it to the outside of the court, when in reality an ace is "a legal serve that is not touched by the receiver, winning the point". The image showing Federer not receiving Murray's serve corroborate to this minor mistake of the video, because Federer does touch the ball after a legal server of Murray, but he didn't return it well (the ball went out of Murray's court area), this is not an ace.
This helped so much I’m going to start playing tennis for my school and I have no idea about scoring or rules or how to play and this definitely helped :)

Hi Madeleine. I don't think anyone is great at tennis right away. It takes a little bit of practice but you can be really good at it. So long as you're having fun, that's the main thing! Hope this video helps?!
Thanks very much for this Ninh Ly, since Tennis, Badminton, Ice Hockey, Soccer, and American Football equal my favorite sports, and what I'm very much a fan of. I very much appreciate you explaining the rules of Tennis over this.
This made so much sense ! I'm so glad I finally understand tennis now ! I started playing yesterday and I watched some few techniques on how to serve and how to position. Then I went to go search up the rules and found your video ! I really understood everything you said and how it worked ! Thanks!
It maybe sounds strange and confusing here. But I recommend watching some matches. I watched Australian Open as my first tennis matches in my life and watching the game actually helped me big time. It's one of the easiest sports to understand.

Im playing tennis for over 8 years and thrust me guys that sport is worth every little bit of efort. And in this really good video to watch if you want at least a bit to learn these complicated rules.
+Ninh Ly Oh I will! But I've another question . How long do you think it will take beginners to get used to tennis? Many people say it's harder than most other sports...
im just here because of school, and i really didnt care about tennis at a l l (or any sport for that matter) congrats man, you actually got me interested in tennis.
@@Jake_Stevens yup video was wrong about that, ball has to hit net and be in service box for let. I've been playing tennis for 4 years and had to second guess myself lol
Before the match begins, a coin toss is performed. The winner of the toss gets to choose to either serve or return first (service/return position) OR they get to choose the side of the court. If the winner chooses the serve/return position, the opponent gets to choose the side and vice versa. Players switch sides after every odd number of games (after the 1st game, 3rd game and so on).

This is such a well made video! I'm trying to educate a non-player about the sport and I couldn't explain it as well as this. Very good work, and I love the addition of Murray's tennis face. The only thing I added was pegging someone.
The umpire will coin toss who serves first, and players alternate between each game as to who serves. Thanks, I appreciate the comments! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Okay tennis players. I know if a serve lands between those two lines on either side, it is a fault but can't remember if it counts on the second hit onwards.
why would anyone dislike this? It's a quick ands simple guide to a game with a strange scoring system, and unique rules.
Ah, you get haters everywhere. But thank you - I appreciate the comments about the usefulness of this video! :)
I liked the video. However, it was very fast. I had to rewind several times because my apprehension is not so quick.

Ninh Ly is it necessary for the ball to land in opponent's court for it to be called a let or it must go off the court?

Example, if score is 40-15 and the person with 40 scores another, they win the game.

actually an ace is when your opponent serves and you did not even touch the ball
jaaaic10 Yup
If you can't return the serve then it is an ace
Ace is a synonym for a serve that is also a winner.
angusyip123 a winner is when you or your opponent doesnt hit the ball
Correct. If the opponent's raquet touches the ball then its not an ace. And it's not a winner either.
Very well made video, easy explanation of complicated scoring rules, perhaps another video on doubles...
I'm not sure one is necessary given that it's played by largely the same rules.
