    I've NEVER subscribed to ANY RUclips videos. I'm a beginner at crocheting. You are the BEST out of all of the descriptions on making a hat. I've never taken the time to try a stitch that I find difficult like this one. I haven't completed my hat, but I will let you know how I did. There're a lot of nevers in my comment, and you are my first! Sorry for the long comment, I just had to tell you THANK YOU!❤❤

      What a lovely compliment! Thank you! (Especially since this is an old video with an old camera and poor editing skills!) Glad I had something helpful to share!

    First, I think your accent and little comments are so sweet and helpful. It's almost like you're throwing in tips without even thinking about it. Second, I think it's adorable that you act as if you're following someone else's pattern but when you find a mistake, it becomes clear that you wrote it because you fix it. Most people wouldn't be so honest. That's refreshing. Third, I think your pattern is amazingly professional. I downloaded it (all the mistakes are fixed :D) and it looks just like it was printed by a printing press. All in all, well done! Plus, I'm like you: I'd rather measure than count rows and stitches.

    Thank you Margaret for this tutorial. I haven't crocheted for a number of years and when I did I only did simple stitches. After watching your videos I decided to make hats for all my nieces and nephews for xmas. I found this pattern but wasn't sure how to work it so when I watched your video it was so clear. I really appreciate it.

    Great tutorial! I'm so slow sometimes!! I didn't realize that was called a camel stitch. I found a pattern a few weeks ago made with this stitch but from the top down, not slouchy, with a slight brim on it. I made 2. While making the first one I didn't think I would like it or that it would fit anyone. With this stitch it has a lot of stretch. So I made another one. My youngest daughter asked for the first one, with fingerless gloves to match. She would take all the hats, scarves etc I make. LOL She lives in Florida. If it ever gets real cold, which is highly unlikely, she'll be warm. But she'll have them when she visits me in Ga.I'm definitely going to try this one. The camel stitch might be my new favorite!Thanks

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  8 лет назад

      +Sheri Peeples It IS a great stitch and I forgot to mention how dense and warm it is. So funny that your greatest fan is in FL! Hahaha!, Well, she can be like me and wear warm things in the A/C in the summer. I FREEZE inside!

    Hey Margaret: I look forward to watching every one of your videos. This hat will become one of my new favorites. I find your videos very informative, but basically, when I watch them. I feel like I'm hanging out with a friend. I live in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and your are right, the cold has finally arrived here. Today was almost unbearably cold! We are wimps here in the South, aren't we? I did a similar hat for friends and family at Christmas. But, I think I like this one better. Happy New Year Margaret. I look forward to hanging out with you this year.

    • @sheepishlysharing

    I have a question regarding the decreases. The first decrease says 5hdc, hdc2tog , repeat for the round.....do I alternate the 5hdc with the hdc2tog, again and again, or do I do 5hdc just once, then do the hdc2tog and repeat the hdc2tog over and over, till the row is finished? Thank you! This is the first crochet project I've ever done. It's taking me forever with a lot of rip outs but I'm learning and Ive made it this far finally. It's super fun. 🤗💕

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  5 лет назад +1

      This is a hard first project so you're doing GREAT!! "Repeat for the round" means to do that pattern for the whole row (til you get back to your stitch marker.) So you'll do [5hdc followed by hdc2tog] again and again until your reach your stitch marker then do what the next row says over and over again until you complete that row.

    Can I do this with a double crochet? But only chain 2? The reason I ask is because slip stitching when always joining I don't quite understand it yet. I get confused. I like your method better.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, you can do this with double crochet but I don't know what you're referring to when you say "but only chain 2." Hat is seamless so there is no chaining 2 after each row. You mention that joining is a bit unclear just now but take heart! Joining is always a bit tricky to figure out when you're getting started so I made this video that I hope can shed a little light on the subject: ruclips.net/video/F4_181ke7AQ/видео.htmlsi=51I4CFZExraI_Uv0 After you get this down, you make like this video regarding the most common form of crochet hat... the top-down method: Troubleshoot Crochet Hat Sizing | Common Mistakes: ruclips.net/video/d4mp6x_5T-k/видео.html

    For the brim of the hat is there a width measurement. I am using 5 bulky weight yarn and was wondering if chaining 12 might make the brim to wide? Never made a brim on a hat before. Thanks for the pattern

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  6 лет назад +1

      Bulky yarn will most definitely change the gauge! However, one of the best features of this hat is that you CAN use what you want because there is no exact stitch count... it's made by measurement. The width on this particular hat is about 2.5-3"

      Thanks, I decided to go down a hook size and the brim is measuring at 3".

      Thank you, Tammy! The main part of the hat was Red Heart Unforgettable in "Stained Glass" but the brim was in "Sheepish Yarn" by Bernat which has been discontinued. That's a shame because Red Heart doesn't make a solid color version to go with Unforgettable (its a roving-type yarn on the lighter side) and that Sheepish had a perfect match for all the Unforgettable colorways (and also a roving type yarn in the exact same weight)! Strange that 2 different companies had something that worked so well together but now we'll have to find something else.

    The hdc2tog, you are doing is not correct? Sorry to say that, but it should be, YO, then insert hook in next loop behind the top V's (for the camel stitch), YO pull through, (3 sts on hook) YO, insert hook into next loop behind the V's, YO pull through (2nd loop), you now should have 5 loops on your hook, now YO and pull through all 5 loops on hook, and now you have a hdc2tog decrease. You are doing yo pull through loop behind v's, you skipped the yo to make the 2nd hdc, went through the loop behind v's, and pulled through 2sts, then pulled through 3sts, that is not how to decrease it, yours is like a decrease of a hdc and dc combined. I'm sorry to bring this to your attention.I love this hat, made one yesterday, and am doing another, had to watch video again as I couldn't down load the pattern, as it was wanting me to change something on my laptop, so didn't do the download, as In the past I've said yes and it messes up my laptop. You have really made some fantastic items, thank you for sharing.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  7 лет назад +14

      Hmmm... I still beg to differ. There are variations of all crochet stitches that give similar or even the same results! My decreases are even in height across the row and that's the most important thing to me!

    • @sheepishlysharing

      Can you slip stitch? You mean just for changing colors? Sure! I would not try to do an entire slip stitch hat as that provides no stretch.
