This is just a little appreciation comment for Maureen and to CF. You truly broke down UX and UI in such a way that my paid Udemy courses could not. It truly gave me a foundation so that I feel a little bit more comfortable as I learn about the processes and figure out how to structure my learning :)
WOW! Thanks Maureen. I making a cup of coffee for watching again. I take a lot of notes the first time. I'm new on this, I'm still on figuring out it UX design is for me.
Hello Agus, I would recommend you concentrate on say 1. (UX for example) and the other 2.(Ui) understanding of the other as we do see both UX & UI in the work environment
I'm studying ux design because I think it can allow me to have better income and secondly because I see the impact that the products created by this discipline have on the world. However, I think it does not fit with my more planning, orderly personality and that fact that I don't feel comfortable with uncertainty. Now I'm taking steps day by day to practice and improve the minimum details of the UX design process specially in research, ideation and testing which I think can match with me. Thank you very much for the video, it's really good.
It is an interesting topic, as for me, and perhaps for many other people UX design can be not good from the beginning. But after spending a time with current UX design of many popular products, you can start thinking - I can do much better, and it is true. So before deciding if UX design for you, think if you're satisfied with UX design of products you use a lot. And if you are not happy with UX design them, then UX design is for you.
Incredibly helpful tips. I loved your last video about trends. UX sounds like such an exciting job! And now I understand the steps I'd need to take to get there. I guess it won't be easy, but CareerFoundry looks like a great way to get to where I want to be!
I can really relate to this video. I want to go into UX design but lack the discipline to study alone.. I think I'll save up for Career Foundry. it will obviously help me a lot.
Hey, we're very excited you're considering our UX course! It is definitely useful to have someone to help you understand more complex topics and someone to motivate you. Best of luck on your journey!
I am very impressed to watch your video. You expressed very nicely regarding the UX design theoretically but practically it doesn't any help for the interested designers.
Excellent, all of it. If I had to pick a top take-away, it's the honesty about benefits and disadvantages of different paths. And the many tips about how to grow your skills and network once you're qualified.
Nice one! I didn't know about client brief generators until I watched this video. Love your Instagram too, had no idea you did videos for this channel 😊
Hey Mizanur! That's great, yeh they're useful tools, especially for prepping some portfolio work and such if you have limited practical experience with briefs. Enjoy!
Thanks for the useful information! Of course you would plug your own course, but listing some alternatives that would be more affordable or take less time per weak to complete would have been much appreciated :)
Hey thanks for your comment. Maureen mentions our course in detail as that was the course she took when undertaking her UX career change. There's a wide range of courses available and it really depends on your time allowance and budget as we mention in the video. You can find more recommendations here: careerfoundry.com/en/blog/ux-design/ux-design-course-online/ Hope this helps on your journey!
Thank you for your video. I love how you made a connection between behavior and personality and if it fits with the career. Question, how is UX/UI different from Website Design? Would you say that website design will override UX/UI?
Great video. Quick questions- do you think the industry is becoming over-saturated with workers in UX/UI? As over saturation increases competition, it makes it harder for current designers to find work, do you think now is a good time to start in the industry? Noticed just through general knowledge, peers, social media, that as of the last couple years, there’s been a BIG burst of people who have made a career change into UX.
I think the industry has seen a boom in junior/entry level designers in the past years, making the market more competitive. UX Designers will only be needed more in the future, which is also confirmed when you check job openings for more advanced designers. There's a huge demand for that. When you're trying to break into the field today, you'll need to navigate that competition and be aware of that. You need to make sure you stand out in the market. How you can do that, is what this video tells you. The market might be quite intense for juniors now, but has plenty of opportunity once you've gained some more experience.
Good communication includes making people enthusiastic about what i say? It is not enough to be able to bridge any understanding gap, it is also about converting them to our cause?
I am currently an Information Science major taking a course in UX design. Should I become familiar with Figma and Adobe? Not sure if that is a bonus when seeking a job.
Hi, I have been working as a graphic designer for more than 20 years. I have done 2 short courses and 2 projects of ux design. In this case do I need one year to become a ux designer? As of now I don't have any hands on ux design experience, and that's why no one is entertaining me.
What I hope you take from this video, is that becoming a UX designer does not come with a set timeline. Some need 3 months, others need 3 years. What is more important is to focus on your craft and attaining and practicing skills you need for the job - if you feel you're not there yet, then you might profit from investing some more time in that :)
@@maureenherben Thank you so much for reply and deatiled explanation. I will certainly do lot of practice and more projects. Let's see how much time I might take to my first job as a UX Designer :)
I recently started a new career at nearly 40 years old as a CADD designer/drafter at a metal fabrication place. I know that this job isnt for me and largely because of the environment. Aside from that, could a knowledge of CAD software and 3D modeling be useful in UX?
I want to ask that, you told ''focus to craft yourself rather than just a portfolio ''. I want to ask, How can I craft myself❓ ps. you didn't put the networking sites in the description.🙂
I have been researching jobs and companies that are hiring junior designers. It feels a lot of links are saying that the UX market is over saturated. Any thoughts on this?
Good question! The UX industry is booming and thus more and more people are interested in this field. That also means that there are more juniors hitting the jobmarket, so also more competition. I believe there will be an increasing need for UX designers in the future, as many companies are still really low in UX maturity (this means in how far they adapted and live design practices). The reason juniors find it difficult to find a job nowadays, is because even though there are many juniors designers, there are not that many that really stand out in the market. Many juniors follow the same standard case studies the bootcamps offer, which leads to portfolios looking the same. So to answer your question: is the UX market oversaturated? No. But for those who want to hit the market today, a cookiecutter portfolio is not enough anymore. You'll need to bring in perseverance, additional skills, well reflected case studies and a strong and unique portfolio.
These are such great information for someone who's looking to switch to this career! Thanks so much for taking the time to share these details ! :) Really appreciate it.
I was wondering why she made it sound so hard to find sources online, and was hoping she would list some free resources considering she is in the field for 4 years. But it all made sense once the plug came in.
I would say this is a great video lots good information lots of insight only thing I would say is when it comes to like fit of a team it’s usually when companies are the most racist.
30 minutes of saying the phrase "ux designer" and no mention of what a ux is, what software is needed, what platforms, etc... Don't waste your time with video.
I really think you ought to stop calling yourself a product designer when all you can do is websites. "Product Design" is the profession of creating Products. Products are not only digital. For example, can you design a new type of ketchup? could you help a brand develop merchandise? Do you know the stages of 3D printing? Can you do a 3D model? Can you make a manufacturing process more efficient? If you answered "No" to any of these questions then you are just a UX designer which is not the same as being a product designer.
Hey and thanks for taking the time to comment. We'd agree that not all products are (or need to be) digital, but all digital products are still products. Product design relates to far more than websites, there are applications, services, and more, as product designers are usually involved in more over-arching business requirements such as marketing and delivery. To quote the article linked below "Despite the fact that both jobs require a high level of design skill, we can see that there is a higher level of decision making and business acumen required in the product designer job spec." We have an article on our blog where more of this is laid out: careerfoundry.com/en/blog/ux-design/what-is-the-difference-between-a-ux-designer-and-a-product-designer/
@@careerfoundry That's a very reductive view of "Product Design". Your definition is diminishing the work of great product designers who train for decades learning manufacturing processes beyond the simplicity of making an app or a website. Any airhead nowadays can call themselves a product designer when they are not. You lot are UX designers and you should keep it that way
@@uaskcred Hey there! Thanks for your comment - I can understand it's confusing, now that product design is both used in the context of physical products and as well as digital products. There are definitely differences and different skillsets required for physical vs. digital product design. In the context of this video, we focus on digital product design. In terms of job titles, I found that there are many different titles that refer to similar roles and responsibilities. For example, my jobtitles have been UX Designer, Service Designer and in my current company "Product Designer" though the tasks and responsibilities differ minimally. I think that also adds to the confusion.
