    I don't mind Vanguard gaining extra complexity but I do feel like the way Energy is being executed doesn't play to the game's strengths as well as it could have. One of Vanguard's best assets, especially when aiming at a younger audience, is that you never needed anything ancillary to play the game. No life counter, no damage tokens, no status effect chips, no coins, everything was centered around only a 50 card deck. We've gotten a bit away from that now with first tokens and now crests. But I'm no game designer, and I would guess the dev team probably exhausted all of their other options before choosing this route. Just my two cents is all.

    This is one of those "don't fix what ain't broke" moments with this energy system. I know some people want a change in the game, but no one asked for this. Keep in mind and I literally speak for every tcg to existence, that adding a new mechanic can make or break a game. Buddyfight died, let's not have vanguard follow suit.

    I overall really like the new energy system, but it just really doesn’t feel like vanguard stylistically? One of the things that made vanguard unique in the past was how regular actions in the game opened up resources. Like riding gave you soul, and taking damage gave you CB. The fact that energy just kind of… appears is a little weird to me I guess. Other than that though, I’m excited to see where they take it!

    I think the energy is a mechanic that might help overcome resource denial as you get it every turn. But I do feel it makes going second even more benefecial because of extra draw and extra energy.

    • @iqhmalRedux

      Personally I think its good to make going second more beneficial. As the game progress, getting to g3 first makes more impact so going second has to make up for it

    As a fellow vanguard boomer (I had to order entire cases from east asia because european countries weren't distributing vanguard back then) I am cautiously optimistic about Energy. I think it's a neat additional layer of ressource management and added complexity that standard is lacking currently.
    It does feel kinda scummy though that they are printing effect versions of the QSD cards in dz bt01 and do not consider them errata.

      @janwasilczuk5185 6 месяцев назад +5

      not only that but in west these QSD wont be 5$ since they add sleeves to bump up the price of said decks. They will be like 15-20$

    I'm excited that Bushiroad isn't throwing old decks under the bus and are allowing them to use energy to this is so good it completely fixes jheva when combined with the new support and allows you more draws on top of your already insane plus engine that can plus 5 more cards on top of what they can get with the crest

    I really like the new ideas for the game. The energy mechanics seems tame but I believe it will be expanded upon more in future card design for "energy blast" as a cost much like SB and CB. The 50 main deck for me is a huge change mainly because it lets me run extra cards I recently didn't have space for before. Like in Youthberk I REALLY wanted to play Schneizel but there's no space. Now I can run another rear guard that isn't Fergosa for later turns lol.

    Vanguard Energy feels like Wixoss Coins (at least in Diva Selection format), the game still plays under its original rule set but just has a new resource to play with that certain decks focus on more than the previous decks.

  • @akuda226
    @akuda226 6 месяцев назад +15

    i think what i like about energy as a whole is that it introduces more card design to the game, you can only do so much with CB and SB and with this, they could go into a lot more interesting design.
    make a deck that fully utilizes, stealing energy, energy manipulation, energy ramp, etc. so many avenues to take really

    It is basically a mana system that complements the current game system to have more fun. The biggest turn-off for me in Vanguard was that it really limits you to use a lot of the abilities cause you had no resources to use like counter blast and soul blast. I still remember that i wanted to use more of my narukami abilities and with my kagero deck felt the same way.I had stopped playing Vanguard near the glendios era because of this. Now, seeing these changes makes me really happy because that's something I really wanted this game to have. A bigger deck size and a resource system that will allow me to use abilities more often. Can't wait to start playing this new era of Vanguard. Now mind you, I might not live long enough in a match to still use my abilities a lot 🤣🤣🤣

    Love the new energy system! As someone else mentioned it opens up a ton of new design space within the game, and that's very exciting :) I also think the change to 50 card main deck is quite good as well!

    video idea for you take it or leave it! - maybe since we are at a new vanguard push with 6 new ride lines, you could maybe make a vid about like "what decks to play if you used to play X" . A video pointing out similar playstyles with new ridelines could be cool for old players curious to get back into the game.

  • @Faraday.K
    @Faraday.K 6 месяцев назад +5

    I feel like energy is mechanically similar to soul. With both, you automatically accumulate it at the start of your turn; however, with soul, it's only until you hit your final ride, at which point it becomes an inconsistent increase upon persona ride. Both can probably be gained by dedicated card effects, so I'll leave soulcharge out. The thing with soul was, you could lucksack into cards that are weirdly good to have in the soul - like the hammer girl or a bastion in the bastion deck, or find yourself with the misfortune of soulcharging triggers, over trigger, persona rides, or perfect guards you needed in hand -- not to mention the deck out implications.
    Basically like soul, but more stable and universally applicable to every nation.

    Thanks for giving us this beneficial video as a spot to share our thoughts, Kris.
    I truly appreciate most of the new stuffs for Standard since they seems to be updates for the current mechanics instead of rebooting the game to introduce new format(s) from zero.
    For beginners especially elementary schoolers, they will have interesting firsts to start learning Vanguard without being overwhelmed with too many mechanics and effects to learn at their starting points of playing Vanguard.
    For veterans, the new mechanics are essentially new areas to explore and use without leaving most of the current strategies or decklists they already have.
    It's also a good thing that the new 50 cards for main deck rule will also be implemented for English version in almost same time with the Japanese version.
    The new stuffs truly sparked many joy and deckbuilding potential for me, just hoping Bushi will implement and inovate the new stuffs carefully with reasonable pace.
    Waiting for your next video about QSD and new Boosters to dump my other thoughts~

    Energy system, I kinna like it even it's looks like Speed World2. Ride deck doesn't count as main deck, absolutely YES, space for new promo for Nirvana+Bav yesterday. Divine skill, don't know we haven't seen any example for what it does. New deck may have energy as another cost for skills (like from CB2+SB1 into CB1+1SB+1EN which is reduce "out of gas moment" either CB or SB) while old deck+stride still have it as an extra draw which is nice.

    Great video boss! Just wanted to note some points as I’ve been testing this meta for a few days, and it’s been really fun compared to past standard metas.
    I like how even in starter products like triumph dragon, there’s already a dilemma in how much you want to use your energy blast as you can potentially use all 9 energy on t3 if you want to, so it makes me very curious how the new design space will affect old resource management and the new energy mechanic.
    The bloated deck size solving the random sacking problem just makes standard feel a lot like old G era, as while a lot of dbt13 decks as well as luard + shiranui are very explosive on t3, it’s a lot easier to map out guard values and damage to show skill expression between new players and old players without having to ban anything, MyGO for example is now much more difficult to play through as they rely on drive checking triggers and aggroing early to win. I’m very hopeful for what bushi r&d can cook with the new bosses.
    However, there are some downsides even with some of the good stuff like lyrical in main sets. The dress-up bosses from LM03 and LM04 will definitely crash the RRR rates of CCE sets or whichever set they decide to throw them in, unless they do something crazy like reduce the RRRs other nations receive, it’s up to what bushi product design team can cook up.
    The ride deck energy crest being stuck in the QSDs is also incredibly infuriating and confusing given that they are products 100% geared to new players but every player must get that ride deck crest 🫠. It would have been a lot more cool if they had just put the crest as a common in dzbt01 and 02 like they did with the support cards with effects from the QSDs, which is a huge upgrade from Cadwalla and ling.

    • @JayTeeBeez
      @JayTeeBeez 6 месяцев назад

      I will say granted considering we don't have LM focus sets inbetween I could see us getting Main sets then CCE then Legacy support sets maybe since RN I admit I wonder what they'll do to support decks like nirvana, snow etc that aren't showing up in the anime potentially (if they are not as often), I could see them making a new set just to support the older decks but I guess that's a well see.

  • @ccggenius
    @ccggenius 6 месяцев назад

    So... does lyrical being added to main sets mean the sets will be bigger, or are they going to just make it so there's fewer cards per faction?

  • @blanahaha
    @blanahaha 6 месяцев назад

    Just like any other resource system/mechanic whether it's good or bad just depends on the ratio of cost vs effect. EX: the cb1 for +5k effect on most commons is pretty bad, but youthberk tempest is 1CB for draw 2 and bot deck 1 opponent's rear is good. So what will make or break the divinez meta will be what kind of energy cost Vs effects we will get.

  • @AcePlaysTCGs
    @AcePlaysTCGs 6 месяцев назад +1

    Overall, I'm a big fan of these changes, and I definitely agree that if we're aiming the product at kids more, the game should hopefully get cheaper instead of more expensive because that would be counterintuitive. I really hope the Vanguard cartons shift similar to the way you say Shadowverse did, and with Lyrical joining the main sets, the ratios need to be viable or at least logical for the purposes of making sure people can get their cards.
    I'm not sure what piece of news I liked most to be honest. Welstra is my guy and I've been wanting to main him for so long, but he always felt like he was missing something compared to a deck like Chronojet, so seeing him get main character status is so hype! Lyrical joining main boosters feels LONG overdue. I have a friend who mains Lyrical and he has always hated how he couldn't get nation splits and now that might be a possibility for him. The going first/second choice is huge especially since official tournaments are best of 1. Getting a 50 card main deck with the ride deck being separate feels like its own booster set because every deck is getting 4 new cards without even having to cut what the deck already runs, plus it keeps all the formats in line as far as main deck count goes and a ride deck isn't much different than a g zone in terms of setting a few cards aside from the main deck that you can use to play the game in a different way. Streamlining is clutch when you're trying to make the game simple enough for kids to approach.
    Energy as a mechanic opens the game up to so many options and ideas. When G introduced Strides, it added a lot of depth and basically was a side deck full of tech options. In hindsight though, it did have a ceiling. We went from on-hits to persona flippers and the creep took over eventually, but with energy as a new resource, it feels like they can go hard on it some sets and loosen up on it in others. They can build decks around it or build up to that over time. There's CB heavy decks and soul heavy decks and now there's gotta be at least one deck that's energy focused. It would be neat if the main character's deck was energy focused in the way that Chrono's deck was responsible for introducing Stride.
    If I had to pick one thing that I was most excited for, it's probably the energy because it's going to be the most impactful change for the longest span of time. I'll get used to having 50 cards and the meta will adjust accordingly and Lyrical in the main set will be a nice adjustment, but seeing how energy is used and just reading "energy blast" or "energy charge" on these new cards will take some getting used to. Plus the fact that it's a mechanic everyone can use even if they only run the generator is fascinating to me. Giving every deck an extra draw in the mid-game could be really helpful.

  • @murfolk6246
    @murfolk6246 6 месяцев назад +1

    Energy is such a good inclusion becauseeee...
    An introduction to a new resource allows for more 'resource conversions' to exist
    Before you only have Counter Blast and Soul Blast... so you can only have things like, Counter Blast to Soul Charge... or Soul Blast to Counter Charge
    But with the introduction of a third resource, now you can have:
    C Blast for E Charge
    S Blast for E Charge
    C Blast & S Blast for E Charge
    E Blast for C charge
    E Blast & S Blast for C Charge
    E Blast for S Charge
    E Blast & C Blast for S Charge
    E Blast A lot for C Charge & S Charge
    C Blast A lot for E Charge & S Charge
    S Blast A lot for E charge & C charge
    And with Energy being an Intangible resource means that it can manipulated more easily without seeming overwhelming...
    Like control decks can now mess with the opponent's Energy count
    You can have a deck that focuses on maintaining Energy count.... Like a Dark Irregulars but instead of soul its Energy
    Or maybe a deck that focuses on Having LITTLE Energy... like a Brave but for Energy haha
    So much potential
    🦐

    I like where the game is and Im fine with the new energy system and Divine Skills. As a boomer myself, been playing since OG series Set 7 came out in English, and I was a little unsure about D at first and we had some weird growing pains but at this point I feel like I can say D is now some of my favorite vanguard ever.
    My only hope going forward is that with the start of DivineZ we stop seeing so many collabs. I get its to promote the game and stuff but it bugs me to see so much time and set space, even if its "extra space", dedicated to these things that are not vanguard. Especially when we have full ridelines/decks not seeing support like Eugene, Flagburg, Maelstrom, Baromagnes, PBO, etc. I just personally like my vanguard to be full of vanguard. If they really want to make these collabs I would just hope they are more on the scale of Shaman King and Touken Ranbu where they have their own set and arent mixed into main. maybe one tier 1ish deck and the rest are solid but more locals playable level, or like the guest artist cards where its an alt art of an existing card. Like the SakuraMiku Michu cards, okay still a vanguard deck you just got the collab alt arts.

    My biggest issue with energy is that it’s board clutter, if you’re playing a deck with a g zone or set order, or playing against a deck with bind the board can get cluttered and energy just adds to that
    I’m also not the hugest fan of it not being in premium, I get that it’s cool to give standard unique gimmicks exclusive to the format but to me that’s what dragon tree and bastion type decks are for, using the standard rules to play decks you otherwise couldn’t, not to have an entire mechanic that is standard exclusive, part of the appeal of premium is that it has access to every mechanic, it may not be good to play, but you can do it
    All that being said I’m definitely down for another resource system as often soul doesn’t feel like a good enough secondary resource so I’m optimistic to see how this goes

    W for talking for prices ibsr vg can't compete if they sell so many expensive products like casuals/new players aren't spending 60 on a stride deckset I did say we should get cheaper complete deck products but the start decks that are coming for divine z are not it, no OT and all vanilla cards is so backwards new players are better off buying the overdress start decks not these ones especially because the first first overdress start decks were like 1 dollar or sum shi like dat and even at that price point they were better then the divinez ones. For energy counters I'm sure it only matters for official events like if u go card shops I doubt they'll enforce it or juss general casual play u can do wotever u want. I agree that premium doesnt need energy counters at this point we are gonna run out of space on the playmat for zones if we add every gimmick to premium juss let premium stay as is for the old vg players having stride and markers is enough

    The energy card also helps alot as you have 4 extra cards. I don't know about premium but I felt that energy chest need to be in somehow not immediate but considering old cards that are harder to get. New players may use newer cards to start premium which if they use DivineZ cards, they may required the need of E-blast/charge.
    Overall, as a boomer myself, I love the change and really look forward to it and how it evolves

    New stuff and changes 18:00 ~
    I think change has their pros and *more often than not had outweigh the bad* (in the long run)
    The negative is some cards became OP at release and will usually take a while before its balance out -while the pros creates more innovation/tactic-etc- .
    One thing I felt (from experience) TCG had failed to modernize is probably their regional restriction. e.g You can't use English cards in Japan/Asia's tournament and vice versa.
    It's like buying an old 2020 DvD product with regional code in 2020 if you know what I mean.
    Those was designed to control the release date so people can't view the movie before the theater release in other country -etc and marketing (for more profits)...
    Given that many of my new cards are in Japanese =/ I kind of stop playing at regional tournaments when I am in North America / CA even if its within 1 hour away.
    Note: I do not support mixed card decks (it has to be all English or all Japanese) because card material/thickness is different.

    Bro who ever these people are who are complaining on added complexity, I am a 13 year old and I get confused many times yet I always love the added complexity, once I have seen a fight with the new rules I want even more complexity (At the same time when I want to relax I do prefer the 2018 vanguard as it is the one I started following vanguard)

    The one thing I’m concerned about is if they don’t treat the energy system as a mana system. A system like this from other games often breaks the game if not treated very consecutively. I really hope there aren’t endless cards that say energy charge 1 like Vanguard usually does for soul and counter charge. I’m scared because they’re treating this like it’s optional as a crest when really there is zero downside to just having this in your ride deck. It’s basically a Yugioh expansion where we’re getting a perma new zone.

    With the Energy mechanic, my biggest complaint is how boring it is. It's a number that goes up automatically and down sometimes, made by a generator.
    Compare this to Counter blasts, for example; CB is a resource your opponent chooses to give you by dealing you damage, simultaneously progressing them winning the game and giving you more resources to clap back with. You can choose to guard, refusing yourself CB if you feel you've taken too much damage so far.
    Energy getting a name change to something like "Psi" (for example) would have given us a cool mind (energy/psi), body (CB), and soul dynamic to our resources. Which is more interesting.

    I think the ride deck change is a little new player unfriendly since now all previous D start/trial decks are illegal out of the box. And the start decks are limiting since they're mostly vanilla. Not to mention EN release price is upped to include more expensive art sleeves. And (correct me if I'm wrong) they're only 1 type so they're not even legal to use for all 55 cards since ride deck sleeves must different from main deck sleeves. If the change happened at the beginning of D I think it would be fine but now feels a little late. I'd rather they'd do trigger sentinels for 4 extra deck slots

  • @Shy3k

    Energy, new deck size, going first changes, all are such net positives in the grande scheme of things. The last time Bushi introduced brand new mechanics in the middle of an era was Gift II, and those were so bland and such a mistake in comparison. Energy could potentially expand the game as much as the G zone did.

  • @slyoko
    @slyoko 6 месяцев назад +2

    Really appreciate the input, because I litteraly cannot find many positive aspects in the announcements...
    Like there's this innocent part of me that wants to believe that some cards (maybe the triggers ?) are going to be Energy Blast 2 + 20k shield or something like this, and the realistic me who's like "It's gonna be +10k power and you know it. Drop the copium".
    I live in Europe and currently the products are expensive (a case is well over 1.200€), the promos access is super complex on so many levels (Our community has been trying on multiple shops since May, we still don't have any promo at this point), the game itself doesn't feel that great either... There has been so many problems linked to going out of our way to play and promote the game and without anything to show for it that fun alone cannot justify going so hard for Vanguard over other TCGs.
    I just don't wanna force myself to see the changes as positive only to be disappointed later on. I wish good luck to those who still have this kind of energy, because I know I don't anymore.

    Lyrical being added to the main set has a big pro and con. The pro is they don't need to make it obvious that they're making a rideline much much stronger than others to try to keep up with the 6 month wait for the next set. The big cons is the nation has what like 13 archetypes and a 14th with this new season so we're gonna have ridelines that are going to just never be supported since its not in its main set. And the 2nd biggest con is that the toxicity towards lyrical and its players is going to become more rampant as people will definatly complain about pulling lyrical over what ever other nation they wanted as even if other nations had worse cards, Lyrical is always pointed out as terrible especially some people would see this as taking spots from other nations and ridelines up.
    Also, the game definatly doesn't seem cheaper.They've been saying since the start of overdress that they want the game to be cheaper and better for new players yet failed hard. These new start decks being all commons and needing you to buy effect versions from main sets shows they don't truly want it to be cheaper, they still just want to scam you out of your money first and foremost. This isn't even talking about how the west apparently makes up half of their vanguard revenue yet they've shown no sign of actually wanting to make the game better over here which is causing a lot of west players to drop off like flies because why play a game if the company isn't even going to try to make it affordable and good for you.
    I like the 50 card main card thing, feels like it should've been like this from the beginning.
    I like the energy card mechanic. It's unique and I think it adds another layer of complexity.
    Also, I'm sorry but the V-star power thing is more of a "You're in japan vs them in the west" thing. Japan's card game community has an entirely different mindset compared to the west so what you think is just fine is very different from how the west sees the game.

    My issue is that standard feels really unimpactful for premium. Barely any cards get ported over and almost none of the D bosses see play in P. I really wish there was at least a deck that you can play in standard that you can then modify slightly, get a G-zone and play in premium. The fact that energy was kept out of premium feels bad because it essentially tells players that bushi doesn't want D to impact premium that much which undermines the eternal format idea and leaves premium players only looking at the once/twice a year premium product instead of always having new toys in standard. I hope that if the Energy system takes off and the DivineZ skills are good then maybe bushi will add a stride that gives you the energy crest (or add another line of text to harmonics that says you get it lmao)

    • @aboi5
      @aboi5 6 месяцев назад

      I just had an idea. they could make D starters that say "when you ride you get the energy crest and if you went second draw a card". So they don't change anything in D but in P now players get to choose: do they want to run a V starter and get a quick shield and draw 1 even going first, or do they want to run the D starter and get the energy crest but no quick shield.

    Ngl surprised by people genuinely complaining about not being able to use dice. Shadowverse Evolve has essentially killed using dice as a tracker for me, cause it can kill the flow of the game.
    The two ways they've showed to me are way simpler and cleaner than dice, and for the energy cards if they follow what they did in V and print the units on the energy cards or even make holo or signed energy cards I will so be down for that.

      Huh, not really though?
      + Main deck size increase
      + Players get agency in going first or second
      + New positive game mechanic in the energy crest
      + Pull rate for foils likely increased
      + Trigger and PG reprints, along with generic triggers useable in all clans
      + Lyrical merged into the main sets
      + More fun English VG events such as Vanguard Day, Set release tournaments, tri-regulation Springfest
      + Dedicated push to promote VG with kids, paving the way for a new gen of players
      - QuickStart decks are vanilla, yet price is high
      - Have to use the official Energy Crest tracker, can’t just use dice.
      List isn’t extensive, there’s probably several more pros I can list and maybe more cons too, but the point is that it’s definitely not one step forward two steps back.
      And yeah, I saw that photo on Twitter too about “Divine Shill” and the “One step forward two steps back” nonsense. But parroting it and wilfully ignoring the positive steps forward doesn’t help. Critique but also give credit where credit is due.

    Tbh, i don't care if Standard, or Premium, have its own mechanics. The problem with Vanguard was always that Bushi only focus on 1 format to develop 99% of new cards. If Bushi got a balance were, of course, Standard still is the main focus, but Premium gets supported more often, i don't think people would care about format X or Y having its own rules/gimmicks.

    I have 2 issues. First of all... no removal of OT from premium and standard. This mechanic is unfun and breaks the balance of the game. You cant play around it, you cant guard it properly and once its checked defensive your turn is pretty much over and next turn you loose. Previously they had argument "but what about sealed product? It wont be playable out of the box!". Well now its not playable out of the box because you need 4 extra cards. Why not remove OT from premium at least? It got no place in competetive enviroment and its toxic. Yeah they decreased ratio for pulling it, but it sucks even more now since you know the odds were even smaller and you still got sacked by one of. Maybe 2025 they remove that crap. They had chance to fix that issue but they didnt.
    2nd of all, they could change rules regarding blitz orders so you can play 2 blitz per turn. That gives a lot of option for techs and defensive.
    extra issue: new trial decks are absolute garbage and they will increase the price for it by adding sleeves making it 15$ product instead of 5$. Not only that but they also put effect version of cards in set 1. Why bother? Wasting slots for commons and rares for reprints and forcing people to buy same cards once again but this time they aint vanila. That product is just dead on arrival and energy system is bootleg version of speedworld spell in yugioh 5ds.

    • @janwasilczuk5185
      @janwasilczuk5185 6 месяцев назад

      @@J-roll1 whats the point of making good decisions during the game, when 1 overtrigger just throws it out of the window. Bushiroad asked for replays of games that were swung by OT. People provided that many replays that their servers overloaded. Still bushiroad cant admit that this mechanic is design mistake and should be out of the game - period. Especialy it should go out of premium because premium is supposed to be more skillfull format. Yet 1 defensive OT can stop your entire turn just to give other player 1 extra turn and kill you. For example if you go for zeroth play in golds and you get defensive OT you probably can scoop since your G zone is gone and you cant kill them or break through OT and dont get me started on brandt gate overtrigger doubling everything. It just worst feeling ever to loose to random 1-of. If I bubbled top 8 at big event just because of sacky 1-of I would just quit the game or stick to V. Thats the reason a lot of people started playing V again, because there is no OT.
