I am a long time viewer that never comments, but we had the exact same thing happen when we first moved into our house we bought. The house had been sitting vacant for a few months because it was an estate sale and no one ever noticed anything in all our walkthroughs. We had just signed all the paperwork and walked into the house and saw all the mouse poop in every single room, drawer, cabinet, closet, ect. We had the moving truck outside ready to unload and I halted everything until it was inspected by my husband and thoroughly cleaned first. Then I bought 2 cats and a whole lot of traps. It's been fine since. I recommend getting an mouse deterrent ultrasonic sound machine. They make a sound we can't hear but it keeps the mice away because they don't like the sound it makes. We have one in every room now. Praying things start getting better for you all!
The ultrasonic works for a few weeks and then they no longer work. The mice get used to it. I've visibly seen mice right next to them. What works for us is entry points....they can fit in very tiny spaces and having effective cats.
Bonnie, After seeing the couch I thought how mice will eat through the bottom of unholstered furrniture when making their nests. Look closely at all unholstered furniture mattresses bedding etc. The shredded paper more than likely was used for nesting purposes. Hate to say this, but your mice probably came in in your packages. This happened to me once and I got 2 big mice delivered to my house. It took me a long time to figure it out. Set traps and got them right away, no problem after that. Mice free after that. :)
Go to a hardware store and get bait boxes to put all around the outside of your home. I live in a rural area surrounded by fields, and the bait boxes keep the mice away. My husband refills them every month.
Ohhh, now I see why the vlogs about Florida continued for so long. I hope the situation is well under hand by now. Hugs to all of you! Y’all have so much work to get this cleaned up and restored. HUGS ❤❤
There is new construction behind our house. I walked in the garage to do laundry and the mice were running the rafters. Needless to say we had to move out for a week. It was awful. I feel for you all. 🤮
Oh Bonnie, watching this made me go back to the time we came back from a trip and found the exact same thing. It feels so invasive! I'm so sorry you have to handle this situation as soon as you get home! I hope you and Joel will not be at yourselves up about it. You didn't welcome them in or let them come in - it happened on accident.
We get mice always at the same time of year! Weather shifts and they wake up lol. Check inside the kitchen drawers....I always know they are back by that. They love potholders 😢.
Bonnie! Put on masks and gloves! Huntavirus is a real disease! Don’t let the kids touch the poo, it’s a bad infestation, keep the kids out until you can open all the doors and fumigate, get a professional cleaning crew to come in and help you, I’m so sad for you, this is so upsetting. Love ya Bonnie
I feel so bad for you All🥺 You handled it way better then i would. Thank goodness we have a indoor/outdoor cat that keeps all the mice away. They can smell the cat and dont even come near our house. Hugs for you all. It will get better. Sorry you had to come home to this after such a wonderful time in Florida.
I literally had to move out of my apartment because of a mouse infestation and my landlord would not fix it. I lost thousands of dollars worth of belongings. I collect reborn dolls and they pulled hair out of their heads to make nests. I lost furniture they bred in. They are the frickin' worst! Boston's reaction is how I felt every day and night. I'm so sorry you guys had to come home to that!
Make sure you check in your couches they go inside through the bottom and make sure you check the favorite is a nest behind or under your dishwasher wall. I had a infestation years ago and it took finding the nest and babies to grt rid of ot
Oh Boston u sweetie. I totally understand! I hate mice too. I used to get them in my car crawling up my leg. I’m almost 40 and I still cry if I see one.
I'm so sorry you all had to come home to such a crummy situation. You handled it very well considering the state of your home. Praying the situation is taken care of soon and life stops throwing one bad situation at you after another.
43 years ago, as a 19 year old, first-time Mom, we lived in a renovated, old English cottage. 🏡 One night I woke up to feed my 6 week old baby, and there were mouse droppings IN his crib! 👶🐀 I knew they hadn't been there 4 hours earlier, so the mouse had definitely 'visited' him whilst he was sleeping. I was HYSTERICAL and it felt like the end of the world had come. 💔 Luckily, it turned out to be just ONE tiny mouse that hubby caught and dispatched to mouse heaven. 😇🐀 It still makes me shudder to think about it.
The way you stayed calm, the way you acknowledged their feelings while dealing with your own, the way you didn’t show Boston being emotional and just held space for him. Well done, Mama.
Ugh this makes me sick for you all! At the same time it was so sweet of you to just comfort sweet Boston! I’m so sad for you all but I know that things will get better.
Back country living man .. those mice get us everytime . We’re full time RVers and always have traps - went through and spray foamed/meshed any access points ughhh I’m sorry girl . It’s the most ANNOYING AND AGGRAVATING thing
You built the house in such a beautiful area, where unfortunately animals also live. A slot under the door, under the garage door, the thickness of a ballpen is enough for a mouse to fit through. If you are at home and leave doors, terraces and garages open, they can get in unseen because they hide pretty quickly. Or they get in via pipes or ventilation shafts. They have eaten up your clothes to build nests with. You should set up cameras, for example to see where they come from.
I’m sorry, that is so awful and I can relate! I was gone for Christmas for 2 weeks and came home to mouse droppings eeeeverywhere. Literally everywhere. Even on my bed and pillow. Cried my eyes out. Stayed in a hotel for 2 nights because I felt so disgusted and like my home had been invaded. It’s an awful feeling. What a terrible way to come home ☹️
😢😢 OH, Bonnie. The mice issue is so devastating 😮!!!!!! Good advice at the end. Stay calm clean up and trap them. So sorry 😞 😔. I agree, water would have been worse been there. Hope things are getting better 🙏. Love you guys!!!
Unfortunately, this is something that could have happened even if you were home. Not to this degree of course. Maybe call a cleaning company to deep clean….what am I saying….you are better than any cleaning company for your own gorgeous home. Hugs and prayers Bonnie. You got this hun.
Wow Bonnie I don’t even know where I would start or what to do! I wish all of us could come and help you clean your house! You and Joel make a great team. You guys got this!
Hi Bonnie, Pro tip use a BLACK LIGHT to clean up every inch of your house. It will help you immensely - I gurantee it! 10ish years ago, my husband and I were unknowingly living with two mice in our college apartment in wooded area - they chewed themselves in and got into a lot of things, but we quickly discovered they liked very soft/warm things - couches, carpet, clothes and they liked sleeping under the fridge, sink cupboards and stove installation. We caught several with mouse traps and candy 🙃
you definitely need a outdoor cat or two that will eat mice. its a give in, when you live in the countryside that mice will come in especially if a house isn’t occupied 😢
Bonnie. I’m so sorry. We had a mouse infestation last year. I found droppings in my kitchen all in my pantry and cupboards. Under my stove top. They were all over my kids playroom and toys…. it was hell. I honestly sobbed while cleaning for hours and for days. I am so sorry. Mice are the worst. We use the mice sound emitters and have them plugged in our outlets through out our house and I haven’t seen a single mouse since. Good luck to you guys!!! ❤
If you get the high frequency sound emitters, the ones from Home Depot we found we couldn’t hear anything. But the ones we tried from Amazon, you could hear a faint high pitch buzzing noise. Go with Home Depot. 👍 And now since dealing with mice I have all kinds of mice/pest control in my emergency storage. If all goes to pot, at least I won’t have a mice problem. 😅
Diseases are mainly spread to people from rodents when they breathe in contaminated air. CDC recommends you NOT vacuum (even vacuums with a HEPA filter) or sweep rodent urine, droppings, or nesting materials. These actions can cause tiny droplets containing viruses to get into the air.
Why did I tear up when Boston got so upset? That poor sweet child, before he saw the mouse I could tell by the look on his face he was having a very hard time with the situation of poop everywhere. But you handled it so well by comforting him and letting him know that it is a shock to see one of those little devils scurrying near your feet. I’m so sorry you came home to this, but you guys are so good at making a plan, getting organized and finding a solution to a major problem, being a mouse infestation. All hands on deck and hopefully you will be rid of the critters soon. I know you are so organized, and you can find some type of cleaner or disinfectant you can use on your beautiful couches without staining the fabric. Good luck, and like you said better mouse crap than water damage. Sending hugs.
Ohhh nooo I do despise mice, they get into our RV and it makes it stinkkkk!! We have grandpa gus spray and herb pouches to repel them and the ultrasonic machine that puts out a beep noise that mice do not like. Also we put the poison on the perimeter outside
What a disaster. I'm so sorry that happened. 😢 I'm glad your plan does not involve poison because that has a detrimental effect on the birds of prey population. But I do hope your traps get a bunch of mice soon. As a previous commenter said, a barn cat would be helpful too. I hope you can get everything cleaned soon so you can relax and enjoy being home again.
Poor thing crying. I imagine it was a stressful drive home to come home to that. Beyond just being scared it’s never fun to not be able to just unwind. Also I’m sure being home has brought so many emotions back
Bonnie, I've found mice in packages that come through the mail. I wouldn't store unopened boxes in the house unless you check for mice. My mom had a mouse problem at her house recently. It took awhile to get rid of all of them because they multiply so fast. I swept up the po&p, used a mop with disinfectant and then used a steam mop. I really just want to come clean it for you. I feel so bad for you. Sending all my love, Shelli 💕💕💕💕💕
I always eat my breakfast at my desk while watching Bonnie’s video each morning at work. I am melting because I was trying to eat my biscuit while seeing mouse poo everywhere 😂. Hope you got it tackled by now! I would’ve handled it so much worse lol
Bonnie! What a horrible thing to come home to! I agree with others you handled it so well! I hope you’ve been able to get in under control. I am terrified of mice and this would be my worst nightmare! Good luck with it all! ❤
Oh my word…….I’m so sorry you guys have to deal with this. What a pain. At least you guys are realistic and not freaking out (well, maybe internally, but that’s okay 🥴). I literally could not. I’m broke as heck, but I wouldn’t have the energy or mental capacity to take that head on. And my house is TINY compared to yours. I would lose my mind. Poor Boston, you were so good to let him feel his feelings and just love, reassure, and protect him 🥰
Seems like they had babies in the blankets of the dogs blanket and that’s why so much was in the crate. The babies had to grow some before leaving the little nest of the crate
Rachel Parcell said getting a cat fixed her mice problem. Living where she lives she said that they always had exterminators put out traps to keep them at bay. She took in stray cat and let him outside and he became a mouser. The mouse problem went away. Get a cat! A family I know in Colorado keeps 3 cats outside and they stopped their mouse problem.
I can understand how Boston was so traumatized: I once walked into my laundry room and saw a chipmunk in it! I slammed the door, yelped and ran up to my third story to call my Dad to come over. I’m basically your age, Bonnie, haha.
Bonnie, your reaction is exactly as mine would be! One thing I’ve seen in 40 years of marriage is that if you are gone from your home for long periods of time, those little buggers will find a way in. It warmed my heart to hear you comfort Boston in that moment even when it was a bit scary for you as well. You’re such a great mom, makes me miss mine so much. I’m glad you’re all safely home and you have such wonderful memories to look back on. I had a wonderful time “traveling” with you. Big hugs and blessings, Robin
That happened to me every time I left even for a week. until I got a cat. He was an outside cat and a very good mouser. one to two mice can do make a major mess.
Omg … this is so horrible to come home too - hats off to both you and Joel for just acknowledging the problem and making a plan. ❤ Thank you for bringing us along even on days like this ❤
I once had a problem with mice and heard that if you put small containers of Pinesol throughout your home, they won't come in because they can't stand the smell. I tried it and for us we have been free of them ever since. Good luck Bonnie it's an awful feeling seeing this in your home, I know.
Bonnie and Joel we had a mouse problem until we planted mint. it works amazing as they HATE the smell of mint.If you are looking to keep them out of your shed, it's a great idea to plant a thick patch of mint as close to the site as possible, as it'll keep those pesky rodents out. If you want a stronger option, try spearmint, as that's supposed to be terrible to mice, so they won't come near your home. i find mint plants to be the best option cause one is not having to deal with Chemicals or worrying if their pet is going to get poisoned.
Oh this brings back bad memories! 🤢 We left for the weekend and came home to mouse poop all over our home . I can't imagine if we'd been gone longer. I'm so sorry!!! It feels so overwhelming and gross!! ❤️
Hi, Bonnie and Happy Wednesday!😊😊😊😊😊😎☀💙💙💙💙💙💙🌷💖💖💖💖💖💖🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇👍. Last night, you never believe what just happened. A tornado just touchdown on my state in the southwest and hit the FedEx warehouse with 50 people inside!😮😮. As for me, I'm okay right now with no storm damage (thank god🙏).
I feel so bad for you! The mice would have peed on all the carpets, furniture etc. mice are so gross. I feel like crying for you, I just can’t imagine what you were feeling when you all realized what was there!
Oh my gosh, I dealt with the same exact thing last summer. I put poison in those big boxes outside. In addition to traps inside put a poison box around the perimeter of your home. It works instantly.
I couldn’t help but think two things: 1)”Bonnie must be thinking “my brand new house!!!” And 2) hearing Boston say that he wanted to go to Grandma’s must’ve melted her heart.
Oh Bonnie, I'm so sorry. All the work you put in on the house, and all the crap your family has been going through, you sure are being tested. You will get through this, and your home will be your sanctuary again soon. Sending you a hug, cos you look like you really need one. Take care of yourself xx
Get some cats. At least you have the RV to stay in until you can get the infestation under control. Good luck and hope it gets resolved quickly. I could feel your anxiety skyrocketing through the vlog, Bonnie 😞
I'm someone with a lot of anxiety and big fobia's for all birds and small dead animals. I have the same reaction to these things like your son had to the mouse. My family made fun of it and sometimes they even made my anxiety worst by teasing me with birds and stuff. I have a lot of trauma because of it. I'm so happy for your kids that you take it serious and don't make fun of his reaction.
You definitely need to get it sorted ASAP as we had the same problem when we moved into our house, we have pest control out, he said that mice breed every 21days. So definitely need it sorting sooner rather than later xx
I feel for you so much right now. Everything that’s shredded is what they use for nests. Not food. We found that out at my home years ago when we had an issue. There was a small way they could get in through the garage and that was it. The mouse came in and had babies while we were gone. You will start to catch them. Our exterminator said snap traps works best with peanut butter. So we were catching them left and right with those and had them gone fast. I’m so sorry you had to come home to this! 😢❤❤
Oh my gosh what a mess to come home to, I'm so sorry. Bonnie you handle everything with such grace and are a wonderful example for your kids. I'm 59 and you are a wonderful inspiration to me. I hope the mice are evicted soon. Much love from Wilsonville Oregon
We have an older house and have not seen any mice since we bought some ultrasonic devices. They just plug into the outlets and omit a noise that we can’t hear but mice don’t like

I noticed a lot of boxes, cardboard boxes are attractive to mice. It’s best to unpack everything and get rid of the boxes.
Go to a hardware store and get bait boxes to put all around the outside of your home. I live in a rural area surrounded by fields, and the bait boxes keep the mice away. My husband refills them every month.
Bonnie I have to say you are a lot calmer than I would have been. I don’t even know if I would be walking around. I am so sorry you came home to this!
You saying "got a mouse in your pocket?" In the previous vlog just got a whole new meaning 😭😭
😂😂😂😂
😵💫😵💫
😂 There not hard to get rid of.
A little bit of foreshadowing 😂
Ohhh, now I see why the vlogs about Florida continued for so long. I hope the situation is well under hand by now. Hugs to all of you! Y’all have so much work to get this cleaned up and restored. HUGS ❤❤
Oh my word! I would have just cried. What a mess to come home to. I hope you catch those buggers fast!
There is new construction behind our house. I walked in the garage to do laundry and the mice were running the rafters. Needless to say we had to move out for a week. It was awful. I feel for you all. 🤮
Oh man! Not fun.
“Pick one up and let’s see” OH MY… I would be back in that RV and just live in there the rest of my life 😂😂😂
Oh Bonnie, watching this made me go back to the time we came back from a trip and found the exact same thing.
Hantavirus and the rotavirus, and yes don't touch any of that mess!
Please don’t go barefoot!
I knew they hadn't been there 4 hours earlier, so the mouse had definitely 'visited' him whilst he was sleeping. I was HYSTERICAL and it felt like the end of the world had come. 💔
Luckily, it turned out to be just ONE tiny mouse that hubby caught and dispatched to mouse heaven. 😇🐀
It still makes me shudder to think about it.
Bonnie I am proud of the way you’re handling this. Sending you love and support. ❤️
I’m screaming !!!! Wash your hands!!!!!😂
Same 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
And put those socks back on!!!..yuck!
Me also! 🤢
I'm screaming put your shoes on !
My word Boonie...That's terrible, hope this gets fixed for you soon so you guys can get back in the house. You've got this!
Sticker traps. They work really well. We have them next to our garage door and we’re always catching them coming into our garage.
Hi Bonnie,
Pro tip use a BLACK LIGHT to clean up every inch of your house.
A black is a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that actually.
Everyone touching the mouse poop had me dying!! It’s toxic!!!
Mice really said “no one’s home!! Time to party” 😓😓😓
you definitely need a outdoor cat or two that will eat mice. its a give in, when you live in the countryside that mice will come in especially if a house isn’t occupied 😢
And now since dealing with mice I have all kinds of mice/pest control in my emergency storage.
Also, you get those boxes outside around your house and garage ect. glad you found where they maybe getting in and out.
Rats are also tiny at first when they leave their nest to explore. Then they grow , so even if it looks small it still could be a rat not a mouse
When I built my home my contractor advised me to mouse proof my house before I moved in. Best thing I did ever!!
What did you do for that?
My mum has a phobia of rats, mice etc. She wouldve ran out screaming, and would never return. 😂 good job on how you handled it. 😂
The way you validated Bostons feeling made me cry! That was exactly what he needed and what most kids need 🤍
Same!! I was eating my lunch! Needless to say I didn't eat all of it 😬
I am so sorry!
So sorry 😷
@bonniehoellein no need to be sorry!! I knew clicking on it what I'd be seeing. Just thought I'd handle it better than I did 😂
@@bonniehoelleindon’t you dare be sorry! ❤❤
Oh gosh 😫😫
It’s the pee that you can’t see that makes it even worse. I’m so sorry y’all made it home to this!
Big hugs and blessings,
Robin
That happened to me every time I left even for a week. until I got a cat. He was an outside cat and a very good mouser. one to two mice can do make a major mess.
Cats are in our future for sure
Also their is a trap you can make from a bucket and some water you should look it up.
Omg … this is so horrible to come home too - hats off to both you and Joel for just acknowledging the problem and making a plan. ❤ Thank you for bringing us along even on days like this ❤
We need an update ASAP or else this is going to live rent free in my head all week! Eeeeekkk
Also, try the sonic plug in things that are supposed to deter them from inside the walls.
I couldn’t help but think two things: 1)”Bonnie must be thinking “my brand new house!!!” And 2) hearing Boston say that he wanted to go to Grandma’s must’ve melted her heart.
♥️♥️
Oh Bonnie, I'm so sorry. All the work you put in on the house, and all the crap your family has been going through, you sure are being tested. You will get through this, and your home will be your sanctuary again soon. Sending you a hug, cos you look like you really need one. Take care of yourself xx
Have you checked the big boxes?? They may be hiding in there? I feel for you all, what an awful situation to come back to!!
We started that night! Set traps out.
Aww, poor Boston. I teared up when he freaked out about the mouse. I would have done the same thing Boston.
They just plug into the outlets and omit a noise that we can’t hear but mice don’t like
So sorry! I hope you were able to get rid of them quickly.
I am so sorry, that isn’t the best way to welcome you home. I hate mice!! I know it had to be overwhelming but you and Joel handled it very well so your kids didn’t panic great job!
