Great video! My absolute favorite Rolex nickname is the Wimbledon. The green outline on the numerals is a perfect nod to the iconic grass courts, and you always see the Rolex clock at Wimbledon. It fits perfectly without being too obvious, unlike the Coke and Pepsi nicknames.
These are just some of the nicknames we favor or dislike. Obviously, there are countless options to discuss, including the ever-loved "Polar" Explorer II. Is this at the top or bottom of your list?
I guess I chose the right day to be sporting my Rolex GMT "Coke." I think there was another green-colored Rolex that was called "Sprite", in keeping with the soda references, but I can't recall the configuration. As to Steve McQueen, I thought that the Tag Heuer Monaco had that nickname, but maybe not. Seiko watches have many nicknames (Turtle, Orange Monster, e.g.). Most Grand Seikos, like my Katana, come with a name from the manufacturer, Snowflake probably being the most well-known. Fun discussion today.
The "Coke" is a great choice to accompany this week's video! The newer GMT-Master II ref. 126720 has garnered the "Sprite" nickname by many. It's pretty fitting for it's black and green bezel configuration. Steve McQueen famously wore the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph in the classic film "Le Mans". But many collectors refer to the Rolex Explorer II 1655 by this name despite no record of him ever wearing it. Happy to hear you enjoyed the conversation about the vast array of watch nicknames across many watches and brands.
The "Wimbledon" dial Datejust (all variations) is one of the team's collective favorites! Sadly, so many to discuss, this didn't make our first nickname conversation.
I'm wearing my Starbucks today and I love its nickname! I like almost all Rolex nicknames - they make the hobby more fun and lighthearted. Just don't walk into a Rolex AD and ask for any of these by their nickname, it doesn't go over well - LOL.
Yes! Some vintage watches just "have it" and the 1655 with its bright orange "Freccione" hand is one of them! It's clear to see why it gained a cult following after initially being a slow seller when first released.
Great watch indeed! Our conversation in this video wasn't inclusive of every single nickname. Just some of the ones worthy of discussing for good or bad.
Another great watch with history! Glad you mentioned it. For what it's worth, our conversation wasn't to be inclusive of every single Rolex nickname. Clearly there are many greats (and not-so greats) to consider.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono reverse panda currently on the wrist. As far as nicknames, I personally like "The Hulk". One of my favorite watches. And I also like the "James Cameron" as it is a very appropriate nickname. Not just because it was released in his honor but the dial represents the depths of the ocean where the Titanic lays. I happen to really like "The Smurf" for the double blue. Great watch and a great nickname.
How about the Rolex palm dial… That was called the Reefer dial. The Day Date puzzle dial that the Autism Day Date. The triple calendar Omega Speedmaster Automatic the Ben Clymer. You have the Seiko Turtle called the Captain Willard.
Black and yellow would be Bumblebee these days.........I've also heard the new all steel black/gray GMT referred to as the Dark Knight. (better than Bruce Wayne, the other I've heard) both seemed forced.
I'm not familiar with the Zombie nickname, but based on the pictures that were shown when they mentioned it, I think it is a two-tone watch with black and grey bezel, while the BW is a ss watch.
You're right, the 126710GRNR has been notably nicknamed the "Bruce Wayne" since it's release earlier this year. We were referencing the 126713GRNR being discussed by many publications and watch personalities as the "Zombie". Hope this helps!
Great watch! Relatively new and still adopting a variety of unofficial nicknames. Are you a fan of the "Sprite" nickname or is it at the bottom of your list?
For the record Archieluxury live stream along with Marc Goldberg Talks Watches, Clyde The Watch Wrangler, Bear Clooney, Tim Write called the jubilee Batman the Batgirl. They also called the Rolex Green bezel the Cermit/Starbucks. The new 41mm white gold Submariner the Cookie Monster. All during real-time Rolex website debut and RUclips live stream. They also called the yellow gold/green dial Daytona the John Mayer right after Hodinkee posted their Talking Watches episode. Proof and records are on RUclips
The worst nickname is for the watch on my wrist now: Omega Oreo. It’s the best watch I’ve ever owned by a pretty good margin. The nickname is the only thing I don’t like about it.
Wearing my "Starbucks" or Kermit or LV Sub MKII. Lol. Honestly, I like most of the Rolex nicknames. But I honestly love my Rolex reference numbers and movement numbers. The numbers and generations make sense! The brand that really needs nicknames is Omega! Those reference numbers are insane! Lol
Awesome to hear your perspective here. The Rolex reference number system does in fact make sense in indicating the watch and it's variations. Nicknames are meant to be a fun part of collecting. Maybe OMEGA collectors will adopt more in the future... the watch references can get pretty long!
They called it the Batgirl because a jubilee bracelet is more delicate or feminine compared to the Oyster bracelet. Thank Archieluxury and friends for that. Personally it sticks and suits the blue black jubilee GMT
I’m a Rolex collector and a super fan of the factory .. personally I hate all the Rolex nicknames . I really prefer to call the watch with the factory reference… Pepsi , hulk , Batman , bat women ( only for the jubilee ???) and now Bruce Wayne .. really disgusting 😅
You're not alone with this take! Nicknames can be fun, but many collectors lean into the watch's reference numbers for purity. Thanks for watching and sharing your take!
I totally disagree on the Steve McQueen. First all the characters that other watches are named after don’t exist except a few like the Paul Newman and a few others. There is no such thing as a Hulk, or Batman etc. they are fictional characters. The coolest vintage watch ever is the 1655. Steve McQueen was a real living person from the exact same era. He was hugely popular during that time period. He was the coolest of the cool guys. He COULD have actually bought one and worn it. Batman or Kermit the frog didn’t even exist. Steve McQueen…best name ever.
Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective! Our point on the Ref. 1655 being called the "Steve McQueen" was that there's zero documentation of him wearing the Explorer II. So despite the watch being a wonderful timepiece, the nickname association is hard to process for some.
There is definitely no Batgirl. What a dumb lame reach is right. I own a Batman on a Jubilee and it’s incredible and it’s just a Batman period. People that say there is a Batgirl are just mad they didn’t have the bracelet option before it was offered with the Jubilee.
so these clowns don't know that Batman vs. Batgirl is not just Oyster vs. Jubilee but the case design is also different? it's a bit slimmer and more streamlined on the Batgirl vs. the Batman
How could you guys forget the Polar? 0:53

Was waiting to hear the 'Wimbledon' datejust 😢 currently wearing the 2 tone yellow gold ⌚
The "Wimbledon" dial Datejust (all variations) is one of the team's collective favorites! Sadly, so many to discuss, this didn't make our first nickname conversation.
I’ll have to search for an image of one you mentioned…I love my Omega “Great White”, but have never heard a Rolex called that.
Lots to love on that watch!
Yes Sea Dweller 1665 with white "Sea Dweller" instead of red
What are your thoughts on the Thunderbird?
Top of the list nickname! Nothing to dislike about the connection between Rolex and the U.S. Air Force.
I love the FP Journe “parking meter”!!!
Now this is a fun one! Thanks for adding it to the watch nickname conversation.
Love Pepsi, Hulk, Smurf, Polar (you forgot). Also the “42” Yachtmaster. I’m wearing Smurf today.
PS: Hate the Root Beer!
So many great nicknames atop your list! Even better wrist check 😉
Pepsi is not just something you drink, it's something you wear🤣
I'm wearing my Starbucks today and I love its nickname! I like almost all Rolex nicknames - they make the hobby more fun and lighthearted. Just don't walk into a Rolex AD and ask for any of these by their nickname, it doesn't go over well - LOL.
Nicknames do make collecting fun! But keep them in the community. Your second point is SO valid.
I prefer the orange hand/Freccione for the 1655
Yes! Some vintage watches just "have it" and the 1655 with its bright orange "Freccione" hand is one of them! It's clear to see why it gained a cult following after initially being a slow seller when first released.
You left off one of the best nicknames: The Rolex Turn-O-Graph aka, The Thunderbird
Great watch indeed! Our conversation in this video wasn't inclusive of every single nickname. Just some of the ones worthy of discussing for good or bad.

Love the wrist check! Awesome to hear "Hulk", "James Cameron", and "Smurf" are at the top of your list. A trio of three great Rolex watches.
Love my Smurf!
How about the Rolex palm dial… That was called the Reefer dial. The Day Date puzzle dial that the Autism Day Date. The triple calendar Omega Speedmaster Automatic the Ben Clymer. You have the Seiko Turtle called the Captain Willard.
pepsi and coke are good, but pepsi and batman and guinness make little sense.
Oh, now "Guinness" would definitely make sense!
@@bobswatches To be fair, that makes the most sense of the three. At least more than the root beer.
Black and yellow would be Bumblebee these days.........I've also heard the new all steel black/gray GMT referred to as the Dark Knight. (better than Bruce Wayne, the other I've heard) both seemed forced.
"Bumblebee" would make sense 🙂 As does the "Dark Knight" for the new 126710. It will be fun to see what sticks around in the long run.
My thought went right to Bumblebee as well.
The Black and Grey GMT is the "Bruce Wayne" not Zombie.
Exactly! Thanks for the assistance in clarifying here 🙂
Agree. I’ve never heard Zombie. I think I’ve also heard “Dark Knight “
Zombie or Guinness is the 2-tone Black & Gold, no ?? these clowns in this video are utterly clueless !!
I like the original name Pan Am instead of Pepsi on the blue and red GMT.
Awesome take! Many purists would agree with "Pan Am" > Pepsi.
Guys what about the sprite?
Great watch! Relatively new and still adopting a variety of unofficial nicknames. Are you a fan of the "Sprite" nickname or is it at the bottom of your list?

awesome!

Lovely watch indeed! Easy to see why you'd prefer to avoid the nickname. Thankfully, you can call it what it is: an awesome Omega Planet Ocean GMT 🙂
Watching from Barcelona so going naked to defer the theives. Great discussion.
So happy to hear you enjoyed our conversation! Good luck on keeping the thieves at bay 🙌
Lol
Ditto on the Omega reference numbers.

Great episode! You all are spot on! Why name a watch because you don't like the bracelet and everything doesn't need a name. Green Sub and Blue Sub!
Thanks for joining the conversation! So glad you enjoyed this episode.
They called it the Batgirl because a jubilee bracelet is more delicate or feminine compared to the Oyster bracelet. Thank Archieluxury and friends for that. Personally it sticks and suits the blue black jubilee GMT
the reasoning is easy to comprehend just not palatable for some.
You can’t knock the Starbucks 😂
The watch itself is incredible! Just a tough nickname for some of us to enjoy.
Team Best Rolex Nicknames all the way! 🙌
So glad you enjoyed this video!
I have an all black GMT. I feel jipped that it doesn't have a nickname! I'm thinking "None more black " (homage to spinaltap) who's with me????
I’m a Rolex collector and a super fan of the factory .. personally I hate all the Rolex nicknames . I really prefer to call the watch with the factory reference… Pepsi , hulk , Batman , bat women ( only for the jubilee ???) and now Bruce Wayne .. really disgusting 😅

@@bobswatches no doubt.. really thanks for your professional answer 👍🏻👍🏻
mamacoo Literally the happiest place we men are!
Buckley
Good addition! Is it at the top or bottom of your list?
Before the Batman it was called the Bruiser 🤷🏻♂️but that didn’t catch on

The lady has really good taste, and connects with the watch
So kind of you to comment! Thanks for watching.
White dial steel Daytonas are Pandas, always have been and always will be. If the model created the nickname, it defines the nickname. Not you guys.
+1 for the Panda!
There is definitely no Batgirl. What a dumb lame reach is right. I own a Batman on a Jubilee and it’s incredible and it’s just a Batman period.
People that say there is a Batgirl are just mad they didn’t have the bracelet option before it was offered with the Jubilee.
You are not alone with this perspective! We love hearing it from an actual "Batman" owner.
Your guys'es
Hope you enjoyed the video for more than a grammar callout 😉
Yes there is a Batgirl!!!!! You guys only sell used watches. You are not collectors or RUclips watch enthusiasts.
so these clowns don't know that Batman vs. Batgirl is not just Oyster vs. Jubilee but the case design is also different? it's a bit slimmer and more streamlined on the Batgirl vs. the Batman
