    I’ve been riding fifty years, many bikes, many miles, many places. Also been lucky enough to have bought three new ‘Stroms (‘09, ‘12, ‘15) and collectively abused them over 180 000 trouble-feee kilometers from the tundra of Northern Canada to the jungles of Central America. The ‘Stroms are far from perfect and they’re farkle monsters, but also, they’re likely the most practical, reliable and cost effective way to travel by motorcycle.

    A front fender mod is critical for any mud.raise it up, eliminate it, whatever. I just had a very disappointing morning because under barely muddy conditions the underside of my fender on my 2023 locked up my front tire completely. Had to walk back home to get my truck and tools and scrape the underside of my fender. Great job suzuki! And yes the factory battalax tires are useless in the dirt! Very happy with my Michelin anakee tires!

    Great video. I'm still riding my '09 and almost in 6 figure mileage. I have similar mods -- same tires, crash guard, modified skid plate, LED lights. I recently painted her with Rhino Liner and I love the way it looks. Also use Pivot Pegz and Mosko 80L luggage. I'm proud to be part of the Vstrom community.

    I like how you keep your videos short. I think a great addition to a video like this though would be to have a walk around with your bike to really show off your mods.

    @0:35 the 1050 usb socket is almost a direct replacement. It only needs a different plug to fit the existing one on the bike. That's also a good place to make a Y splitter cable to cleanly connect a GPS unit. The 3A fuse can easily handle both.

    One more. I upgraded the front brakes on my 2018 DL650 to Nissin calipers from a 2004 Honda CBR600, and I added a Nissin Master Cylinder. DRAMATICALLY improved the front brakes.

      @@shittywheelies7403 You have to buy caliper adapters. Hi Gustaf, I'm Claudio, from Italy. Congratulations on your beautiful journey! I'm also thinking of buying a V-Strom 650. It's a beautiful bike. You appear to be very very tall (almost 2 meters maybe?) I am 1.85 meters tall. In your experience, is the V-Strom comfortable for someone who is tall like us? Thanks for your reply and have a nice trip!

      I’m 2.06 meters. You’ll fit just fine with no modifications!
      I have some small modifications to make it a bit more comfortable for me, but I don’t think you’ll need it.
      Ride safe!

      Better late than never - lowered the pegs with kit by Adventuretech and added a BeadRider seat pad. Made all the difference for me. Was willing to also get a Suzuki tall seat but it wasn't necessary.

      It's a heavy bike for sure, but it's manageable. It's not a dirt bike and can't be ridden like one. But taking that in to account it's fantastic.
      I run the heidenau k60 scout, super happy with them. Would absolutely get another set.

    Hi, thanks for the video. How do you find the brakes off-road. I once had a abs bike just providing no brakes on a down hill. I am so scared riding the vstrom offroad knowing the brakes could not work under certain conditions. What's your take on this.

  • @Adrian-hn8mj
    @Adrian-hn8mj 3 года назад

    You are a tall rider, what about bar risers and lowering the peg? Did you do any modifications?

    • @GustafN
      @GustafN  3 года назад

      I run Suzuki original wide pegs, lowering the peg position by 20mm or 25mm (can't recall exactly) and a 25mm handlebar riser. That's it, I'm comfortable on longer rides with no problems. I think one thing that would be nice is a taller seat and another 25-50mm in handlebar height, but it's just a luxury at this point.
      I also have some after market suspension, helping managing the weight of me + luggage.

  • @jordicec1
    @jordicec1 2 года назад

    sorry, you doesn't touch the suspension?

    • @GustafN
      @GustafN  2 года назад

      Although i have aftermarket suspension both front and rear, it's not in my top 5 mods. Suspension upgrades are absolutely not necessary to travel with a V-Strom.

    Did you swap the ridiculous plastic skid plate for a real one in aluminium?

    • @GustafN
      @GustafN  4 года назад +2

      I sure did!
      A SW-Motech one with the toolbox on the front, it has taken a beating! The oem one is more of a stone-chip protector, silly of Suzuki to even include it.
      One downside of the V-Strom 650 is the ground clearance, but i don't think it's limiting for round the world travel or adventure style riding, only if you go on the gnarliest of trails it'll become a limitation.
