I also ride a DL1000 model 2018 and what also reduces buffeting is changing the mirrors. I have replaced them for mirrors of the Kawasaki Er6 model mirrors and the effect is noticable. And also I think the bike looks much better. 9:21

Great vid, Sir. I'm on my 4th Vstrom and just bought a virtually new 2020 XT1050. Every single Vstrom I've owned has had a combination of serious buffeting along with top of helmet wind blast and wind noise. No matter where how I adjusted the stock screen on any of them...it was borderline torture at anything over 55MPH. The solution was the Givi Airflow for each and every one of them. The Airflow has a combination of great aerodynamics along with 2 actual individual screens that break up the wind and deflect it both sideways, over the top, and thru the opening between bottom and top screen. I would describe it as almost magical how the transform a problem that makes the Strom unbearable at speed...into a sublime perfect ride.

Totally agree with your assessment - it turned the bike into the most comfortable ride I have experienced. Cheers.

got one on my 1000 Strom. works well. As I understand it the two screens additionally channel air up off the bottom screen and up the inside of the top screen and over your head. You can feel it if you put your hand above the channel. If you want you can also just use the bottom screen for some protection. p.s good review

After listening to this review I installed this screen on my Moto Guzzi V85tt. Am very happy with the performance. Even on lowest setting I'm in a zone of calm and quiet. It's not the prettiest thing but on an Adventure bike it's ok. I would not put this on a sport bike like the V100. I believe this design works as intended, it directs the trapped air up over the rider.

Another great review about the Vstrom! In this case the killer buffeting that I thought there was something wrong with it as I never had a bike give me a headache!
You point out and do a great report on what I think is the perfect cure with the Givi.
As soon as you mentioned the buffeting I could almost feel it again! It was terrible!!!
It was one of the first things I did when I bought my Vee new in '14. The Givi definitely was different but I really liked how adjustable it really is. I can ride a hundred miles of slab with it raised and listen to music, slip off onto the dirt, slide it down to easily look over and reverse on the way home. A great review as always!! I don't know if you still have your V-Strom. Like you I found the OEM screen lacking and generates a lot of turbulence. If you still have the bike with the Airflow screen fitted, may I ask you to measure the internal distance between the two locking mechanisms. From your review it seems to have solved the turbulence and noise problem. However before I buy one I need to know if the locking mechanisms will impinge on the placement of my Sat Nav. Retailers just don't respond to my enquiries. Good video. Covers all the bases. Thanks

    • @BlueMarbleRider
      @BlueMarbleRider  3 года назад

For me, as I don't look through, but rather over the shield most of the time, they are irrelevant to my vision. The airstream is deflected up and over your helmet. The top of the screen on my bike is set at slightly above chin guard level. I can raise the screen much, much higher, but never need to. Even then, the milky portion/black areas would not affect the vision as only the bottom section is coloured that way, while the top shield is clear. Hope this helps. Cheers.

@@BlueMarbleRider I’m 6ft 5 inches and I’ve just recently bought the givi one piece screen which although it is much bigger than the standard screen is still giving me a bit of buffeting, I might try this one, thanks for the reply.

I’m very disappointed with mine, I have one on my VStrom 650.
I’m 6’ and it still buffets like crazy even on the highest setting, I ordered a puig clip on, no idea if it will help or not.

I'm sorry to hear that. It is the first I have heard a negative review on the Airflow, albeit on a 650. I am over 6 foot and don't notice any buffet on the 1000; however, on my 650 vstrom I had a Madstad single shield which was quite good. Good luck.

Depends which one you get, and being adjustable both on the mounts and with the top slider shield, it can be adjusted: 50cm height (12 cm of extension) width 44cm.

I would like to point out to all your viewers that I have the same Scorpion helmet as you and on the Versys I just sold the buffeting was enough to cause the same headache you described getting with your stock V-Storm windscreen. Before I started looking for a different windscreen I tried my old Shoei XD4 which is also a peaked helmet. Problem solved.
Something you may try in the future is a different helmet than your Scorpion. Certainly a non-peaked helmet will be much quieter with less buffeting but as with my Shoei XD4, you will probably find another helmet can do as much for your riding comfort as a new windscreen. Now helmets are NOT cheap and it is nearly impossible to try before you buy but if you find yourself with a bike you love but cannot get airflow managed, try a different helmet. I love the look and functionality of my Scorpion but airflow on my Versys was not acceptable.
So that bike got sold for many other reasons and as soon as I sell my GS (long story but what an unreliable bike for $25k (USD). The new V-Strom may require a new windscreen but I’ll make certain to try different helmets as well.
    Nice review.

Great point, Greg. Unfortunately for me, all three of my helmets (Scorpion included) were wickidly buffeted by the stock Vstrom shield. But that is certainly sage advice. I have had viewers tell me they've had no problem with the stock shield, so there is some truth to what you are saying. Cheers.
