Who is listening to this masterpiece in September 2024...there are no words to describe this exquisite musical composition...today is a special day in the history of Northern Ireland and this great song immediately came to mind...and the healing has begun...
I recall the day I brought the LP home on the day of it's release in Toronto. I played it over and over again. I'm 75 and have enjoyed Van's music since hearing Astral Weeks in September 1969 during my first year of residence at university. FTR, I have a fondness for Guinness and single malt Bushmills.
l have never heard a bad song from Van. His music makes me fall in love with the loves of my life all over again. I am 68 years old. He keeps my soul young. I wish everyone could feel what I feel whenever I listen to his music
I remember listening to "Enlightenment" over twenty eight years ago. I said to myself, 'Some day I'm gonna chop that wood, carry water'. Three years later I built a log cabin in the woods, I carry my own water and I chop wood. It's there that I hear that sound of One Hand Clapping.

Figuring ourselves out is like reading a great novel but we don’t know how it’s going to end, just that there’s twists and turns and ups and downs and more and more healing and strength and finally acceptance of ourselves. It’s terrifying but wonderful all at once.

It seems that for the phases of life I’m experiencing at different times, a Van Morrison song pops up to help me through it! Amazing… “The Healing Has Begun,” my new VM favorite song.
Bass and drums on this are great. Some lovely fills from both. Holding it all in place. Sweet song. Van's vocal, as ever, expressive and evocative as only he can do.
Technical critique? Why? I don't search for a mathematically harmonious series of notes, virtuoso playing, or the perfect voice - I search for feeling. This song of Van's is music at it's heart wrenching, stomach tightening, tear wrenching, best. It brings tears to my eyes when I sing along. Not many songs do that. I hope that you felt it as well.
