    I found your video after a search for this condition which is scary: now for many months I feel almost immobilized and thinking, finding words etc is a huge effort, not always successful . I'm 75 with a lifetime depression struggle although when younger it wasn't recognized as such, so for the most part, I was and I'm still considered as a lazy whiner so to speak. It's a very long, exhausting journey which can't be written in a comment - but I wanted to post after reading your reply to a comment by someone I can identify with. I am now in despair, living in a remote area barely able to function. I also depend on web content and youtube and podcasts help, and I fully understand people who, at least , find supportive, understanding voices and concepts online. Of course it's not "the best" treatment/help, but for many of us it's what's available and we make the most of it!! With this, I want to encourage those who struggle with major, immobilizing depression to not stop looking for resources and comfort online. Please don't be put down if you can't, for whatever reason, find personal professional assistance! Just the effort you put when you look for online help indicates your will to engage with life, your precious life. To the 51 year old woman who is a caregiver and struggles with majir depression, thanks for sharing your story. Keep doing the best possible for yourself. I think of you..

      Wow!! I hadn't checked who owns this channel, Randy. I read some of your work when I lived in Vancouver many decades ago-you were a young professional, pre-internet times. I even went to a talk you gave. Your work is very valuable! Just to remind you in some places in the world (like where I live now) appropriate professional help may not be available so online resources are a blessing. Thanks for your channel.

    This is actually my MAIN symptom. Ive spent a lot of time in therapy in DBT to work on tricking my brain into giving my body a few minutes of relief so I can get things done. But it's taken 4 years at least.

    I have suffered from clinical depression since me teens. I'm 51 now and unable to do almost anything. I just want to stay in bed all day and distract myself with you tube or movies. I work as a carer for the elderly and manage to get through the day. But I have NO life. The meds i have been on for many years did help me initially, but each time I've changed meds the side effects are awful and I go back onto my regular meds, which at best keep me functional at best. I used to have a career, but the pressure became to much. I have no relationships except with my son and parents, and 2 other close lifelong friends who haven't turned their back on me. I no longer cook, seldom clean (only whats necessary), I struggle with taking a shower or even washing my hair. I have a very bad appetite, and used to have bulimia for many years. I know that I should change my meds and see a psychologist, but I have done all of these things for decades of my life and things help for a time, but ultimately nothing changes. I've lost interest in everything. Have had only destructive relationships with men and havent had a relationship in 5 years. Now I simply have no interest. I often think of suicide, but Im not strong enough to go through with it. So I go through the motions of life. With no purpose or joy. Please could you advise me. I am not on any medcal aid/care. Lara

      Hi there,
      It sounds like you have had a very significant struggle. As I mention on the channel, my hands are very much tied when it comes to offering specific advice and recommendations to individuals, as my registration to practice is limited to a specific jurisdiction - and of course in order to offer effective recommendations a provider would have to have much more extensive information. If there are free or low-cost services near where you live, I strongly recommend you seek them out, as it is profoundly difficult to go through this without support. No RUclips channel or self-help book will be sufficient - these are aids to self-care but not a substitute for face-to-face professional care.

      RUclips and movies are fun and safe, keep doing them but just try to add exercise to your life.

    The loss of psychomotor function was one of the most unpleasant symptoms during the nadir of my depression. It was like my own body was giving me the silent treatment.

    This is me for 12 years. The last year has been the worst, I just can't do what I need to do anymore, I'm missing work and my bills are piling up. Just walking a half a block I feel exhausted and having a bad knee at times my legs wobble and I feel afraid I will fall. I can literally stay in bed and sleep all day long. I really feel at times I'm not far away from death. Hope.. where is hope.

    What can people do when they suffer with clinical depression makes people so tired? I’m physically tired all the time, what do we eat or drink to help?

    • @RandyPaterson
      @RandyPaterson  Год назад

      When depression is an issue, it's always a good idea to see one's physician for a good medical screen. Many medical conditions (including hypothyroidism, anemia, and certain dietary deficiencies) can mimic as depression. Once these are ruled out, for many the solution is to do the opposite of what the fatigue would seem to indicate, and push moderate activity (walking, cycling, etc). Though this involves an expenditure of energy, given time it can be associated with an increase in energy overall. This is purely a general observation, however, and can't be taken as a specific recommendation for any particular person - cases need to be assessed individually and recommendations made on that basis.

    Yep. This is me. I'm not sure what to do. Everything is at zero. ( Initiating action ) is awfully difficult.

    • @RandyPaterson
      @RandyPaterson  3 года назад +2

      During depression and anhedonia, initiation is more of a challenge than continuation. That's one of the main reasons we advocate for very (ridiculously) small goals: so that people can get themselves over the initiation hump. "All I have to do is walk one time around the block, which seems stupid but at least it'll be over soon." @@RandyPaterson I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment. Very kind of you. I will take a look at the video link below.
      It's interesting because I just started a antidepressant that I took last year that worked really good, end up going off and feeling fine, then I got depressed again, and went back on it. To make a long story short it made me very sick so much so I had to get off it but once I got off it I began to get side effects from coming off it.
      Depression to an antidepressant, antidepressant made me incredibly ill. Now I'm sick from depression, and coming off the antidepressant. Ahhh!!
      I'm just needing some clarity, and some energy and I would be fine.
      It's the extreme tiredness, and the heaviness that gets to me.

      Sometimes the work a person has is to challenge one’s distorted thoughts. Sometimes it is simply to ignore them and let them chatter. Part of getting to know oneself involves trusting in the instincts that have proven trustworthy. A bigger part is learning to distrust the instincts that you know to be faulty.

    • @RandyPaterson
      @RandyPaterson  3 года назад +1

      All psychologists are registered to provide services within a particular jurisdiction, so they are not able to offer clinical services outside that area. However, most countries and states have referral services that can help you find a psychologist. Psychology Today has a referral service, as do many regional psychological organizations. Simply typing Psychologist Referral Service into a search may turn one up in your area.

      @@Prada310 No, virtually all therapists will require your full name and contact information, which in most jurisdictions they are required to have on file.
