Maxus T90EV, GWM Ora 03 (ex Funky Cat) or Honda e:ny1, anyone?

Which manufacturer/model do you think will be next up for heavy discounts as the pressure of the ZEV Mandate looms?
Stellantis with the Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroens. Way overpriced unless the e-c3 sells well. I see they have already launched a new base version of the corsa electric now into the £26k mark
Can already buy a prereg Corsa for circa £19k, Stellantis list prices are fantasy (just like they always have been, imho!)
I think Dacia's Spring will be interesting. Will it's very existence result in discounts on other new EVs? How long will it take early adopters to sell theirs and how cheap will those be on the second hand market? That'll be interesting.
MG5 as it is replaced?
@@benday1218 ooh that isn’t a bad shout if a new MG4 based model does in fact appear. There are some ridiculous deals on the “old model” MG5 as it is.
I have just checked and the GWM ora 3 is now £121 a month with £1461 deposit and 5,000 a year, another deal is £129 per month and £1164 down same mileage and rent for 24 months
Deals are changing all the time it seems!
Try and get insurance on it though. We were exited to sign a deal however upon checking hundreds of insurance companies we found only Tesco Insurance who would insure it at over £1400 for the year with full no claims etc.
I was in Stansted yesterday and Europcar had at least 4 Funky Cats for rental. I have to wonder who in their right mind would want to rent one but they were there. Sales of Funky Cats are basically non existent but I guess these things would be fine on a lease basis since it largely doesn't matter if GWM folds to the person leasing them. And I suspect GWM will fold in the UK and Europe sooner rather than later.
Saw a Europcar liveried Funky Cat when I was at Gridserve in Gatwick. Would be well up for renting one if they didn’t charge so much for them.
It depends post folding if you could still get any necessary repairs etc I guess?
@@ModernHeroes I think EV rentals would be more popular if the rental came with a universal charge card, and an infotainment system route planner which included charging stops. And if the car could be returned with 50% charge instead of the 70%+ most places seem to ask for without penalty. I own an EV and live in Ireland but I have a home charger but even I wouldn't rent one when I'm in the UK. And aside from that like you said, they're not cheap either.
@@stuartburns8657 my thinking is that if you leased an Ora then your liability is 24 months tops. You're not stuck with some dead brand forever or trying to shift it. And if the lease rate is 100 quid a month it's basically a pittance. I suppose it might need a repair in that time - I've never leased but I assume there is some kind of repair cover you can get.
@@drxym fair point and outside of bad luck, yeah it's reasonable to expect no issues within 2 years
Was thinking about buying a cheap eTron 50 as a second car and the leases on new cars make it look expensive.
There were some really good PCP deals on those not long ago (used) - with deposit contributions etc.
Some of these leases are better than what is being offered by Motability, that surprises me seeing as Motability are usually half of what you'd pay for a normal lease, my current lease is £250 a month for a 64Kw Hyundai Kona with £500 up front for 3 years, I will be upgrading but they also offer the GWM Ora 03 for the same price as the Kona on Motability, you'd think it would be cheaper...
Can only assume Motability do deals quite far in advance with the manufacturers so these flash deals don’t work their way through
@@ModernHeroes that’s true, I think in recent years they’ve managed to get some cracking deals on leases though, I’m just super glad that this service exists.
Britannia leasing had the Ora3 recently for £103pm but by the time I’d thought about it it had gone in a flash so you may well be right good deals are a coming!
I understand that tesla earns money by selling carbon credit?? Could these companies be doing the same as they only sell EV, thus having an income additional ro the lease fees?
When I bought my Fiat 500e in December 2021, there were only a handful of BEVs around in my locality. I have seen a massive escalation over the last few months since prices started dropping and a lot of them are Stellantis models, which are all heavily discounted.
Which will be worthless in 2 years 😂
@@andrewwaller5913will be an absolute bargain then!
Where do I find this amazing lease deal on the Maxus T90?
All gone now sadly but I doubt it’s the last we’ll see of them
@@ModernHeroes thanks for the response
Hi, I am a subscriber and a regular watcher of your videos. Are you able to share companies you would recommend for good value car leasing. Thanks
No single company fits that criteria - need to keep an eye on the comparison sites (leasing.com, leaseloco etc)
@@ModernHeroes Thank you for the response. Keep up the good work. 👍
Whilst I'm not currently in the market for swapping my BMW i3, boy-oh-boy, the 'value' of that £44k Honda deal is off-the-chart, especially with it being on a PCP...!
Unlike personal leasing - like your Maxus deal and the ORA 03 - the Honda PCP deal at least gives you the option of ownership at the end of the contract term.
Not sure you’ll want ownership - with a £27900 final payment it’ll almost certainly be going back!
@@ModernHeroes they will be amazing used deals in 2026 though!
I waivered over the Maxus as it was £830 to insure and only a year's lease. I have an e:ny1 coming in a couple of weeks £205 + £205pm for 3 years, servicing included. It has to be a better car than my MG ZS ev which I lease.
Sounds good. Is that a lease via Honda or a PCP?
@@73henny PCP all the cars are now sold I am afraid.
Could you tell us where you got your £60 a month lease deal. Thanks again
They’re all gone now - I wasn’t lucky enough to get in at £60, it’s £99, but some did.
@@ModernHeroes Typical!! Thanks for taking the time to reply 😀
Well they can't sell the crap, might as well give the mobile crematorioums away.😅
Oh dear. Liked your own comment too, how tragic.
Having always purchased 2 to 3 year old ICE cars I got my first EV new but if i was in the market to get one now i would lease as you can have it for the price a new car depreciates when you drive it away fron the dealer
I bought a 3 year old EV 3 years ago. This was before the post Covid bump in prices and, should I sell it now (I'm not going to!) the Autotrader 'what's your car worth' says it is worth about £4k less than it cost me - but I've not seen one advertised as low as that! I'm keeping it for now beacuse it's perfect for me and the deprecation will tail off as it ages anyway.
If I were looking now, I'd still buy a used one rather than rent a car for 2 years and have nothing to show for it at the end (at the moment I'd choose to buy another 'classic' Ioniq too!)
@@FFVoyager now I know a bit more I would be now happy to buy secondhand so for 2 to 3 year old Tesla
Really fancy the GWM Ora 03, shame my current lease doesn’t end until next January, I certainly hope all these bargain deals haven’t all faded away by then.
What about the "Broker fee", adds to cost.😮
Included in most of the “total cost” figures.
I get my Ora 03 on the 12th, £137 per month £1400 down and 8000 miles for 2 years, I have solar so the cost keeps coming down, only issue is insurance since the name change, only 2 insurance companies in the uk will currently insure it as the 03, but other than that it is cheap motoring, also the 03 comes with so much luxury inside I would not compare with a Sandero, also the 03 is effectively a new mini underneath, BMW have a 50% share in this, hence the link with the mini
I'm sure you'll enjoy it.. Of all the new EV's that we sat in at Electrifying roadshow, it was deceptively the most spacious. Especially in the rear. I thought it had an attractive interior too.
Enjoy it, great price you have there.
Dacia is a bag of shit compared to the Ora. The tech in the Ora is mind blowing compared.
I think your choice of a Dacia Sandero for comparison lease costing is lazy journalism or just EV bias, as of today 5th March I could lease a Renault Captur for 2 years 5k miles py for £5808 inc deposit.
But if I’d compared to a Captur I’d get loads of “omg that’s not comparable to an unknown Chinese brand” comments 🤷♂️
If you want to be REAL and not a SNOB.... then your maths is 100%... Why not get a 24 plate runabout on lease, when the running cost of cheap electricity means that your car is virtually FREE. In 2022 the deals were reasonable and I replaced my 18 year old diesel for a 2022 BEV for the same annual cost. In 2024 you can definitely replace your ageing diesel for far less than you would imagine.
I do dislike how some EV's owners portray them as guaranteed saving opportunities.
It's a very individual calculation each person / family needs to make?
@stuartburns8657 Absolutely, each person needs to really look at their own use and the numbers. As an EV owner I honestly believe it wouldn't work for me if I could not charge at home.
@@mikadavies660 home charging is an important aspect yes.
Also the annual mileage and former mpg of the ex ICE is critical where ROI is concerned.
Post 2025 VED on EV's as well.
I do actually feel moving the goal posts back to 2035 was the correct move overall.
Almost a shame Phev's and hybrids were not the earlier adopted choices, as a better stepping stone for understanding, infrastructure and environmental benefits
@stuartburns8657 Sadly the Government in UK did their usual.... This is a great idea, we are supporting it... etc. When in actual fact they were doing F... all. New builds should from 10 years ago have charging points. Apartments should have charging points. Landlords shouldn't be able to block the installation of charging points. In general.... they did extremely little to sort the infrastructure out. Yes there are some charging stations dotted around the country. But thousands in apartments have no choice.
Then as you say... mileage is a component. As putting real mileage on the wrong BEV destroys it's residual value. Which is why the numbers fir leasing worked out for me.
@@mikadavies660 certainly a fine tightrope which is a shame
wish it was,lol
It's not so much going to be the chance of a 'free EV' it's going to be the start of *expensive* fossil rental 'deals'!
Where is this Honda deal I'll get one tomorrow, or is it more pie in the sky
Most Honda dealers are able to offer it although people have been snapping them up pretty quickly. Not sure what you mean by “more” pie in the sky 🤷♂️
@ModernHeroes looked on that dealers website not to been seen ,more bs
Tell that to all of the people with confirmed orders 😂
It went a couple of days ago. Was around for only a couple of days@@KendoNagasaki120
And that's how they plan to get you.
"You'll own nothing and be happy."
For a while. :)
To be fair, none of us will be taking anything with us into wherever it is we go.
I think you’d be pretty happy not owning a Maxus T90EV tbh
@@ModernHeroes That is true. :)
Its 4 times the car
sure EVs are already subsidised by $7500 in the US; why not the entire price and throw the debt onto taxpayers so we can all have an electric golf cart? That would be lovely for sure.
Newsflash: there are countries outside of the USA. I know it’s hard for you.
I would not touch any of the new Hondas as all look ugly especially the SUV like HRV and the eny ev. Also there is no ICE only Honda, all hybrids now which is disappointing as ruined the Jazz and now have to look for 5 yr old ones to get the decent looking shaped ones with petrol only. I dont believe in leasing as just throwing money away with nothing to show at the end of the lease.
Hardly throwing money away if it’s cheaper than the depreciation would be 🤷♂️
@@ModernHeroes Afternoon, When i invest in a car unless its a complete lemon i would keep it until it dies. the current jazz was new and now 12 yrs on hence depreciation not an issue :)
Simply off putting is the silly name of this Honda, why not call it the E;1000 or the e: solar, maybe the e:eagle.....or e:force...
No thanks as much good to me as a chocolate Teapot, I have no power in my Garage and Ilive 20 yards from the street, and public chargers cost 80p per Kilowatt again 9p for home charging
Cost me 180 quid to get mains run to my garage, which is 18m from the house. A 3pin socket is all you need.
Good mate may garage is 100 yards from mine on innercity sum hole@@davidspencer7254
Look at subscriptions for charging on specific makes of charger that can bring the price down. I'm in the same position only no garage at all and have a subscription to BPpulse which is my nearest rapid, that gave free charging for five months then a discount per kW, can't remember what offhand. Also have Octopus Electroverse card which makes life easier elsewhere. My used EV has a small battery but huge range and we rarely drive much more than a hundred miles in a trip anyway so have enough buffer to travel twice that if we wanted. You only pay full price on motorway service hubs really, charge on AC while you're shopping is much less and tops it up.
If you pay full price for public charging it can get costly. But subscribing to the charge network can yield savings. My local charge network is priced from 38p to 48p per kwh, depending which of the 3 subscription rates you use.... And home EV charging is available for 4.5p per kwh from British Gas now.....
It must be nice having the upper hand in the market. For us in Israel, they just increase taxes on EVs every year and the importers are not in a hurry to sell anything.
The car I bought to replace my MG ZS, (Seres 5 EV) now costs 2000$ more than in December.
Cheap n nasty, over comfort and quality. Sorry mate, the VW all day long.
To save £ 200 a month for a work truck to throw building materials into. Cheap and nasty please.
What a stupid comment.
Throw away the maxus after its 5 years warranty and compare your losses in fuel, depreciation and road tax.
Last VW I had was the biggest pile of shit the V10 Phaeton. Total engine failure at 77,000 miles, £11,000 repair
