This is super helpful!! For me I remember the meanings of 上 and 下 because they almost look like arrows ↑(上)↓(下) I thought 明 on its own means bright? Because the sun and moon are bright. 明天 is a bright sky, like the break of day (hence tomorrow)
@@macdmacd7896 generally, semantic part provides the meaning information, phonetic part carries pronunciation information. semantic part is something like root of English vocabs just as "aqu" in aquarium is root for water in English.
@@Derkeller7773 pictograph as the origin of Chinese characters, actually you will find them as part of many characters so that would make it easier to understand the meaning at a certain level when learning Chinese, just like many learners will explore the roots when learning English~
