This is absolutely fantastic! I hope you make a series of these! Having them (or others) read by people with different genders/accents would be awesome too!
I just came back from a 2 week assignment to China, even going through Changsha and Zhuzhou. Your classes definitely helped me get through and even though we had translators provided by our local office I could probably understand 50% of what our business contacts were trying to say. Thank you!
Possibly the most useful xuexi zhongwen video I've seen yet. Forget about aging colloquialisms, its hearing the way people say the everyday speech that will get you through real life situations.
That's exactly what's needed, ready-made sentences to get used to hearing and pronouncing. All the rest of studying is much less useful in comparison if the goal is to speak and understand living speech of normal Chinese people. Thank you, Shuo, for this common-sense move. Hope you record many more useful videos like this one.
Glad that I can understand and use both English and Mandarin although my mother tongue is none of them. I love languages and I hope I can be a polyglot one day ❤ 其实我的外语能力还要提高提得多,因为我觉得我的表达能力还是有限的。很多时候我想用外语表达我想说的话但是有点难的,而我却没有那么好的条件去外国练习语言,因此我挺喜欢在RUclips上看你们母语者人说说话。
This is the way ! Very similar to the Glossika method I’ve been using every single day the past 3 months (I guess similar method, even building your own phrases decks works as well, not an ad 😅). Saves my life especially now I live in China ! It really helps with listening comprehension, absorbing grammar patterns and liberating speech which is always intimidating. Most important is to pronounce the phrases immediately after at least 2-3 times, to practice pronounciation and flow just like a music instrument 🎶
This is like a phrasebook, only covering topics more in depth, since we're all students. Love it! 你叫什么名字?might be weird grammar when compared to English, but it isn't any weird when you approach it from Spanish, actually it's quite straightforward: 你 (te) 叫 (llamas) 什么 (cuál) 名字 (nombre). The direct translation sounds broken (the usual sentence would be «¿cómo te llamas?»), however it's 100% understandable. The more languages you speak, the easier is to understand new ones. 😃
Shuo, I'm a big fan and love all your videos, but this is my favorite one. I would love it if you had a whole series like this for various themes. 50 useful native-sounding sentences for shopping, sports, dating, school, the office etc. I would watch them all many times!
I lived in china for ten years and recently moved back to the US.. its been an adjustment.. most foreigners do not speak any chinese.. i actually took the time to learn. I Understood all the phrases.. may use your page to brush up on my reading.. and I still would like to take the HSK
I have just started learning Chinese. I have spent most of my life living in other countries, so I have some familiarity with learning language. Your video's are super great. I find your advice point on. Thank you very much.

I love it i just wish you said the english sentence after the Chinese sentence. I want to listen to this while driving. I watch tons of Chinese, korean and Japanese dramas so i am learning a lot!!!!
Thank you so so much! I am so happy to see smth that has naitive speed AND learning speed as well. I wonder If you could consider doing little dialouges\texts where you say them both slow and then at normal speed. Anyway thank you again! And have a nice day!
Can’t wait for the next more like this! Would be perfect without an intro and an additional slide for each sentence with only hanzi.still great for listening, reading, and speaking!
I was incredibly pleased to find I understood the first two perfectly, although I'm aware you're pronouncing them clearly as well as quickly. The third one I wouldn't have understood even slowly because I didn't know it, so I don't feel too bad lol
Oh, so that`s why my teacher told me "You gonna use English in future"(Im not native speaker), because that`s now really necessary to learn Chinese. Thank you so much, this is so helpful!
This is a great video. I'm just starting my learning journey. I really appreciate this video and the hard work you put into it, but I was wondering if there is a similar video like this, but that also includes the English meaning spoken? Most of my learning is done by listening to videos while I'm working and I am not able to look at the English phrase on the screen.
That's the key...........hanging out with native speakers who speak slowly enough. Most of my Chinese friends speak too quickly a great deal of the time.
I could not disagree more. After learning to speak Spanish fluently and then starting to learn Chinese, I began to think of Spanish and English as two dialects of the same language.
@@jamesjames4652 They have more similar vocabulary, but the similarities mostly end there. Chinese verbs aren't conjugated, English verbs are usually not conjugated, spanish uses plural markers (idk wtf its called) like "las manzanas" so plural stuff is twice as complicated. Spanish even has some tonal words like Como and cómo, Que and qué. The similar vocab helps English speakers learn spanish vocab fast, but memorizing vocabulary is the easy part of learning a language
I missed the third one and I had to rewind the clip. I am impressed with myself coz I barely knew a thing a few months ago and I can understand a few words and phrases now even though I haven't stepped in any Chinese class
I'm still a super beginner (took a couple college classes like ten years ago and nothing since) so I was surprised I even caught míngzi and guórén from those three sentences at the beginning xD
Thank you, I’m a beginner, I can write hello, but wow sound it’s interesting, you there in China speak fast, but it’s good listen normal speed to acquire the tones, well I suppose, anyways I want to be able to translate between Chinese to English someday, and backwards but thank you we appreciate this kind of videos, good luck in your project.
This video has been instrumental in me learning Mandarin. I just started my journey for the 2nd time 😂. I like the rhythm of speaking Mandarin & thats seemingly how im remembering the sentences. Its like a slower rap song

Hi Shuo, can you make more videos like this? It’s a very nice and helpful way to become familiar with casual Chinese speech. I’m certain you would get at least 30 views per video just from me aha
I don't think I've seen it on your channel but do you have suggestions for people with speech impediments (incurable) on how to be better understood? I've never been able to shake my speech impediments in my native tongue despite working with professionals for 15+ years so I dont think it would get any easier in Chinese. Also has anyone ever told you, you remind them of the talented and cool 许杨玉琢? Especially when she participated in 金曲青春 EP6.
I found that using videos to teach Chinese to practice English listening is better than directly listening to pure English. Perhaps it is because they pay more attention to the differences in thinking and reaction speed of people in different languages. (Laughter)

For anyone going off of the pinyin, remember 一 has tone changes in most of these phrases because it isn’t being used as a number 😊❤
Ok “放假去哪里玩啊?” Is such a cute way of asking about holiday plans because it uses 玩! That’s so neat!
They use “play” so much and I was so confused when first hearing it but yeah it’s extremely frequently used
