When I open my dive center in Greece, one of my plans are to have a large TV playing dive videos all the time. I'll definitely include yours in the play list, and sure, I'll comp you if you come by.
Stephen, I’m 2 years late so I hope you see this comment. This is really excellent work! The big stuff like the GPO and wolf eel are terrific. However as a macro (still) UW photographer I really appreciate the superb macro sequences, especially the nudibranchs, which must be technically challenging on video. I like the tight editing synchronized with a well chosen soundtrack. The context shots were well planned too, and a thanks for including the Deception Pass bridge! I learned to dive just south of here, and have recently relocated back to one of the islands with a view of this water, but after decades of tropical diving wasn’t sure about diving in the PNW again. Your video is almost enough to get me back into cold water! Thanks for the inspiration.
Wow, thanks so much for watching and your thoughtful comments. I really appreciate it! While I love warm water diving, cold water does have a lot to offer. Plus, we live here! You've inspired me to put out another cold water video. Thanks again!
@@richardkelch4890 you'll probably get better results with the x404 legs after some practice. You'll also be able to set the camera lower which gives you more creativity with even and upward angles on the subject. Not to mention the legs extend for greater range and for more possibilities on challenging structure.
Another amazing video. I just started doing underwater video with the gh5. I haven’t used my 60 macro yet. But seeing some of your shots, going to have to. Beautiful
The quality of your videos, from filming to editing, is insane. Really stands out in youtube. May I ask regarding reds? Are you adding in post or lights are enough?
Thanks! I use mostly lights for bringing colors to the depths.I do some post color work, mainly through adjusting exposure. However, in some cases I push some saturation to match what I saw underwater as best as I recall.
Just discovered you on Instagram and glad I stopped by. I am new to underwater videography, diving on Vancouver Island, Nanaimo area. Your work is fantastic! My videos are decent but seeing yours I have lots to learn, lol.
Thanks Scubabc! You live in a great place for diving. Perhaps we'll run into one another as I'm just down in Seattle and get up to BC every now and then.
Hi Stephen, how did you do the shot at 1:00 with the red octo in the bottle? How did you rotate the scene and did you mute the colors outside the bottle with a circular mask of sorts?
I didn't use a mask, just lighted the octo with a single light, perhaps a sola 500 spot IIRC so as not to light up the whole scene. I think I tried using a snoot light pointed directly into the bottle opening, but the angle didn't work. I set the camera up on a tripod facing directly down the bottle opening allowing to rotate evenly in post.

Lovely editing, I know how challenging cold water diving is, you do an amazing job with your lighting. Well done
Thanks Richard! Appreciate your comments.
@@StephenMartin001 are you using a tripod plate with the x404 legs or just mounting balls on the housing?
@@richardkelch4890 I use ball mounts on the housing.
@@StephenMartin001 Thank you, I've been using a Joby 5K tripod with that same housing and had intermittent success.

@@StephenMartin001 wonderful job. This channel deserves more subs.
this is so well done ! I can't believe how colorful those reefs are around 2:20 mark ! was this shot near God's pocket ?
Thanks! At the 2:20 mark the footage is from Campbell River, BC. If I remember correctly the dive site was Whiskey Point.

Are you using a scooter for those smooth fly-bys at 3:35?
No, I don’t own a scooter. In those shots it was a steady hand and use of the currents to get the flyby effect.
