Theres no reason to do such thing, the story happens in Britain, the characters are all of British/European descent, I’m from Colombia and love Harry Potter, I don’t want to see Colombians in a Harry Potter series, because there were none.
Casting is important for a character, especially when it comes to their race. You can’t just take a character who has always been portrayed a certain way or described in the books in a specific way and then completely change their race-it doesn’t work like that. I really hope that they understand this when casting for this new Harry Potter thing. But probably not.
I have no problem with any race/gender/orientation but I can't stand it when they swap based on iconic characters. Start from scratch and make original stories and characters, than I won't care. short of that there is always going a big percentage who hates the idea. To compromise how about taking lesser /*/mportance character and see if they can improve on the character. Outside of that it is more about actors/actresses are more important than the characters. The number of original movies has dropped drastically in the 21st. I can't stand that. Start from scratch and make original storylines and characters and I won't care what gender or race a character is.
When I heard of this announcement my initial reaction was not great. But if I think about it deeply I think I would have reacted that way no matter who was actually cast. Change is scary but in this case it’s necessary as they obviously cannot just recast all the same actors, most of whom have passed on or are now 20+ years older than they roles they were cast for. So with that in mind I suppose I will have to embrace all of these changes as it means that this project which I’ve wanted for a very long time can come to fruition. I think you raise a really interesting point about them purposefully choosing an actor who is vastly different in appearance to Alan rickman to ease the comparison between the two, and I can understand the decision from that lens. I still think Adam driver would be a better choice though, fitting the greasy, hallowed look that snape requires. I would have directed him to try and eventuate different elements of the character though, similar to the transition from Richard Harris to Michael Gambon for dumbledore. You can leave the iconic tempo in speech which rickman brought and instead focus on portraying the more nasty sides of snapes character, which were a lot of the time left out of the films. Snape is whiny, and at times completely unhinged, such as at the end of PoA when he finds out Sirius has escaped. The only moment I can think when rickman touched on this is his despair after lily dies, as well as him telling dumbledore to “hide them, hide them all”. Anyway, hopefully you have enjoyed my essay 😂

I've heard they were following the books and I've also heard either the director or producer have never read a single Harry Potter book
