- This is yet another attempt at Wipeout HD's zone mode. This 134/102 run was made with the AG-Systems ship. This was a very good run even though I lost my racing line in the 90s and had a lapse in concentration around Zone 70. I think hitting Zone 150 is increasingly possible now. I'll get there someday! This session was recorded with the Elgato Game Capture HD recorder. Final score: 425,152

Well there's R8 games that consists of some of the devs from Studio Liverpool. They're working on a WipEout like game called Pacer at the moment
@@ArcienPlaysGames BallisticNG is also available, mainly for WipEout/2097/Wip3out/Fusion players due to the physics model chosen (2159 handling). However as an easter egg, Pure/Pulse/HD physics are available as a cheat (2280 handling).
It's also moddable as hell.

Most former Studio Liverpool members later formed Firesprite in 2012 which, interestingly, was bought by Sony 9 years later.
Sadly the studio itself is nothing like Studio Liverpool, most of their games are VR games made for PlayStation VR and later VR2.
I kinda wish this was an esport. Maybe it wouldn't be the most fun to watch, but the amount of skill and concentration Zone mode takes is definitely something that should be explored in a competitive setting.
How about zone battle from fury? That would blend perfectly into esports
People need to actually give a shit about the games for them to be an esport. Look forward to seeing all two of you at the next championship, I guess we will have to do the competing too.

if there was only a "zone" music track, that, when you got up to the higher speeds, started to sound more distant and muted
+xoyv *5 months later* I'm pretty sure you could whip up a playlist. You can find the average time it takes to get to say, Phantom class, and from there, you could make the music get more distant and muted every say, minute for example. Of course, this would require some editing to do.
I remember watching someone who started with energetic music but the playlist slowly got quieter and more epic over the zones. can't find their video any more tho. i think they got around zone 118.

@@aggroknight4259 At certain point there is not reaction, your brain create the track before your eyes saw it + muscle memory + anticipation. Will be impossible to achieve that speed and control with a first time track.

@@battlion507Lore-wise, Zones are a simulation. They have to be. Otherwise yes, that would start happening and the pilot's health would be at serious risk.
@@felynecomrade Yep. All game modes in this “colored circuits” are simulations.
Also judging by that jump that leads to the corner just before the finish line, zone 150 or higher will probably catapult you clean over the corner.
I am truly inspired by this drive.... Unbelievable....The (pilot) is absolutely James (jimmy Clark Jr) laser precise like in focus.

On a video "Subsonic" appears pretty bearable, but I shit you not, it's not so easy with the controller in your sweaty hands and ship bouncing from wall to wall.

neoqueto Yeah, the jump from Super Zen to Subsonic (Zone 50) is the first noticeably tough boost. But with all things, a bit of practice and you'll soon be making it to Zone 50 without getting hit and then Zone 100 will become the new Zone 50!
kuronekoo Do you know Super Ryuga? I think he hit Zone 187, which is incredible. My personal best is 137, but I don't have the time to practice regularly anymore.
I'm bad at these games. I don't know if you have an idea from the perspective of somebody that is used to being slow and comes from turned-based JRPGs.^^
Zone 20 was hard to reach for a long time for me. Then something clicked. and it went well till zone 30, then 40 pretty quick (a few days ?). Zone 50 was a miracle at that time.^^ I was happy to get it only with trigger controls (then learned that they were way easier for high-speed control by practice^^).
And only after a week or so I could reach Zone 50 (subsonic) pretty easily. But damn, tho I've not touched the game for years, I remember I couldn't handle it even after a few weeks of semi-regular practice. At subsonic, my brain goes into panic mode and I make mistakes (especially on that part without walls, 2/3 of my health goes into that^^). Never went past Zone 68...
I know I can do it if I put too much time into it.^^ But from somebody that's bad at these kinds of games, I can confirm : there are hard steps before Zone 50, but nothing prepares you for that one.^^

As soon as he track color transitioned and heard the AI's both say "Supersonic" I was just simply in amazement , like holy fuck you deserve a huge award for going to zone 134!

I miss playing these games in the 90s on the big screen arcade in NYC.
Their was a club in NYC called TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH that was replicated for the movie Hackers.
It was a Bar/Arcade/Indoor Skate Park. And when you were there, it felt like you were inside the tech hub of the world.
So many great memories there.

Woah, I never even reached subsonic even though i played the game for about 1-2 years. Never knew the zone mode could become THIS fast. I would shake like crazy if I had to play at this speed xD

6.30 love that track. this track is great because it has plenty of straights to get your shield back if you bash off the wall. Others are not so forgiving. this is a great run, its just so fast.

***** Thank you so much! I actually use the regular PS3 controller. I don't remember what my button sensitivity settings are, but I do know that I don't bother using sideshifts when I play zone mode.

this is very impressive, but there's just something about this newer wipeout that makes me prefer the older titles
maybe it's because the ship and the camera move in relation to each other a lot more
It's because the physics of how the ship controls and behaves with the airbrakes changed in either Pure or Pulse.
With the older games the airbrakes acted more like a drift and with the newer physics they behave like they're actually "air brakes" if that makes any sense.
On PS4 I'm #1 on this track WW and this guy is pulling off sweet moves I never can
