I am about 180lb and have tried a few different boards. i surf 3-5x/week in season here in TN and love it. We can surf 8-9 months of the year. Is it an advantage to jump having a longer or shorter board? I am still playing with the wake and have heard that the wake is firmer with higher boat speeds so I will play with that this summer too. Is boat speed a big factor in jumping? Is boat speed a factor with other tricks like 360s? How much does Noah weigh? Is it an advantage to be lighter and therefore to be able to use a shorter board for tricks? I am blessed to have purchased a used Supra 550SE and so have the ability to make a great wave.
Mark, speed can play a big role in many things so finding that right speed is pretty important but can be subjective from person to person. If you get below 10.8 it's going to get pretty mushy and hard to get off the wave for most boats and boards. If you get above 11.6, most boats are going to start to plane too much and the wave height will begin to decrease. "Most boats", so somewhere between there. Start w 11.2 and go from there. Board to weight ratio is pretty important but w that boat, you should be able to ride whatever board you prefer, and use it to get air. Make sure you're starting at the back of the wave and get speed. Like Noah says, don't bottom turn or your speed will be lost. Pushing the tail down is key and if you know how to ollie a wakeboard, it helps but isn't necessary. Just understanding the concept. Hope this helps some.
@@Shaun.Murray Thanks Shaun. We have played a bit with the speed. The wave is harder the faster we go. I am hoping to surf a lot this summer. Just social distancing some.😁. The last couple times out we have gotten the wave dialed-in really well! I mostly have skim style boards with short fins. Would you suggest a board with longer fins for jumping?
Great video, Shaun! As someone who struggles with the wakesurf ollies and airs, thank you for asking many of the questions that I've had for awhile now!
It’s his pro model, it has an option to put 3 fins on it but he rides with one center fin... It’s called the hyperlite hifi if you wanna go check it out😁
It's still a couple of months to go here in Blighty before we hit the water (not including the one or two, crazy deep freeze wakeboarders. "It's cold!"). So always appreciate the opportunity to see folks enjoying the water at this time of year from around the world. Any wakeskating likely? Stay happy dude ;0)
i grew up skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing in CA - now landlocked in Austin, TX - and have picked up wakeboarding and wakesurfing - when you do an air, do you "ollie" like you would while skating (like maybe on a 1/4 pipe or 1/2 pipe) or is it a different motion? love these vids. keep them coming!
Looks like a Hyperlite Hi Fi 53". That is what I ride as well. I'm 6'4" about 210lbs. Great board for learning tricks. Also really durable at a great price.
Hey Shaun, what temperature are your lakes in the winter? As a Canadian, I always laugh when I see the good folks of Florida wearing wet suits. I live near the Canadian rockies and most of our lakes in the summer are around 70-75 degrees. Some mountain lakes only get to 65 degrees. There are a few lakes in southern British Columbia can get as high as 80-82 mid summer.
StuntMike, I too used to live in the cold, in St. Louis, and the lake would freeze. Spend a little time down here and your blood thins. That stacked on top of the humidity, makes for some cold feeling days:)
Can you get a big enough wave behind an old 97 sport nautique to surf? Right now all we do is wakeboard but would like to surf without having to spring for the G lol
Ryan Nelson I used to have a 97 sport. It’s possible but kind of dangerous. Sink the one side really deep and it will put out a good wave. You really have to have that one side swamped. I never had much luck using a wake shaper.
@@ryannelson9523 Get yourself a velcro wakeshaper from Ronix / Eight.3. They work wonders. Then just slam the boat with as much weight as you're comfortable.
Thanks Shaun and Noah - I jumped my skim board for the first time today - first attempt!! Cool coaching. PEACE!!
First attempt?! That's awesome Christine!
Thank you Shaun, these are super helpful!

I am gonna try it

My pleasure Ben!
Great video! Does Noah ride with a small fin on the back of him board?
I was curious about that, too. Looks like he has a small, maybe 3/4", fin in back
You can run three fins on the back of his board...I'm pretty sure w out looking at the board in hand. He only runs one of them in the center.

I guess that’s cool. I’ve seen shaun on a wakeboard. His whirley birds are crazy
You mean Noah

Aye man I’m near Austin too lol
If only it wasn’t 27 degrees here in Iowa, otherwise I’d be going out trying some airs!
yeah noah🤘🤘
What are your settings at for that wave? Ballast level? Nss? Nscr? Speed?
(My guess) All full ballast , nss 0, ncsr 5, speed 11.2 mph
Shaun, could you figure out what kind of sunglasses Noah has got on??
You could prob just google his sponsors and find the brand/model
I'll email him. let's see if we get a reply:)
He just got back to me. KZgear.com
Shaun what’s the nss settings you have when your surfing?
Is he good though?
I this where you did your detention video
What speed do you typically need to go, I don't know if it's just the video but it looks like a lot faster than I wake surf.
I'll address that in an upcoming video WL
What size board does Noah ride?
Good question. I'll have to ask him
Shaun Murray any update on this? I’m ordering a hi fi this week trying to decide between the 53 or 56. I think I remember Noah saying he rides the 53
@@michaelnewman6628 spoke to Noah and he said he's on the shorter one.
Thanks Boys, (I can call you Boys, Cause I’m In my 70’s. Great to watch.😂
Let's see your Air Murr!
Whaaaaa?
Hyper lite!
what length surfer is Noah riding? Great vid guys!!

He's on the bigger HiFi. He's about 6' and probably weighs in around 185-190ish... ish. Just guessing, like a carnie.
Anyone know if it’s better to learn this with or without fins?
Getting air is usually easier with fins
What board is it that you’re using?
I think it's a super air Nautique g23 paragon

It's called the Hyperlite HiFi. Great skim style board. I have the shorter one of the two you can choose from.
Shaun Murray does Noah ride the shorter 53 or the longer 56? Trying to decide between the two. I’m 6’1” 215 lbs intermediate to advanced surfer
