They’re the vols because Tennessee had so many volunteer soldiers that went to Texas in the Texas war of independence. So basically the Vols kept Texans from being North Mexicans.

Texas has so much money they can buy the entire SEC, minus A&M. Other than Vanderbilt, maybe Florida, they do have better overall academics than the rest of the SEC.
