    The actor who plays Fergus is perfect in the role; --- Fergus is the child who really isn't a child.

      Yes, he was a child who wasn’t able to be one, but at this age he wants to be needed more than anything. Jamie and Claire especially give him what a child should have, a safe bed, warm food, being taken care of, being worried about, given many hugs, told not to do foolish things and scolded when he does, being comforted in times of hardship, being protected from harm even at risk of their lives, and a loving family who wants and needs him. When they return to Scotland, they give him a home, friends, more loving family who will care for and protect him, the most opportunities for success and happiness he could have, and sense of belonging, things he would have even without them. They always told Fergus he was needed, even when he actually wasn’t such guarding Jamie, and never belittled his desire to be useful giving him a sense of value and self worth that he carries into adulthood.

      @@Curlyteacher537agreed, he was a child. It’s just that growing up on the streets of Paris and living in a brothel. Made him grow up fast, but he’s still a kid. That’s why he’s drawn to Jamie and Claire. He wants parents who will give him stability, love and comfort.

    Fergus was one of my favorite characters in the series, I wish they hadn't deleted scenes with him because he was such a sweet and sensitive boy.

      Yes. And Knowledgeable and mature beyond what he should be. His character had been through enough to know when He had a loving family to look after. Makes your heart melt.

    I wish they'd left this in but I understand time constraints. I cried watching this -- Fergus is trying to connect with her, help her, and she slowly realizes that. He's trying to take Jamie's place in a small (and of course different way) and take care of her, take care of the business and the horse. I love the Fergus character so much, and the actor is brilliant.

      He was also feeling immense guilt, he blamed himself for Jamie fighting Randall because he saw him molesting Fergus, he thought is was his fault the baby died and couldn't bring himself to tell Claire the truth of why they fought.

    Jamie would be so proud of Fergus taking care of the business, the house, and Claire in his absence. He truly is their son, stepping up when needed as always.

      I wish they have Fergus back. He's so important and Marsali. Those are Jamie's children. And Claire too

    I love how Claire meets Bonnie Prince Charlie and King Louis XV and is completely unimpressed, but gets starstruck when she meets George Washington.

    One thing I notice here is all the amazing attention to detail in the sets, costumes, and usable items such as the "retro" forks.

    They should've kept it, shows Fergus wrestling with his guilt and Claire taking small steps to heal and trying to be there for Fergus again, she knows he's holding something back.

    I think I can see why this scene was deleted as it forewent the hair brushing scene. If we had known that Claire suggested it with a relatively normal disposition then it would've taken away from her despair too soon of losing faith. This scene was more so meant to indicate that her loved ones are desperately trying to care for her and engender everyday activities but the look on Claire's face during her brushing is pure emptiness.

      I think Claire was making an effort at a normal disposition when she suggested the hair brushing, but because of the futility of her attempt I do wish they'd left this scene in.

      I also think that if the whole scene was included would’ve certainly taken away the intensity of Fergus worrying and taking care of her to the point of brushing her hair to try to be pleasant to her (if she’d ask for him to do so would lose that special bond)… not knowing implied that he did himself trying to make her feel good somehow… love Fergus as a young boy and what a gent he was… of course: he’s French… 😉🙌🏽🥰

    Notwithstanding the whole issue of time travel and the anachronisms of gender pseudo-equality brought to the past by Claire’s relatively modern viewpoint, Outlander does seem to work hard to get the historical elements right. Nonetheless, the presentation of the food in this scene represents “service à la russe”, which did not come to France until 1810. In the 1700s, food would have been presented as “service à la française”, more similar to what we might call “family style” today. Yeah, yeah, I know...totally nit-picky, but still.

    • @vh6289
      @vh6289 2 года назад +11

      But I mean, Claire, as the mistress of the house, could have ordered for the food to be presented in this way. Maybe for her it was something she was gotten used to because of her "modern" attitude. In the books she also gave advice to Jamie on how to eat properly (like the importance of eating vegetables) and he used her advice even after she had returned to the future. So, even if not mentioned, it might totally be possible she changed some things in their lifestyle in France as well.
