I think that now Sinner is able to destroy his opponents self confidence by raising his level in crucial points effortlessly. In the third set Fritz was in the zone, but suddenly Sinner decided it was enough and then for Fritz there was no chance.
As much as I'll give credit to him reaching the final and giving Jannik a decent run, I'll still offer my "gratuitous" criticism. He went into the final as the clear underdog. So mentally, he could have gone in with zero pressure. But it seems he took the load of the nation on his shoulders. Although I understand that every US citizen wants an American lifting the trophy, that was no realistic expectation for himself. He should have kicked it off, enjoying the support and giving his everything. Tactically speaking, how can your plan A be "Serve big and battle it out on ground strokes". This is Sinner's own plan A and he's the better player. You have to come with something different and not with plan B "lower the intensity to increase the shot tolerance". Sinner's weak point is the short game. Where were the slices? The drop shots? The passing shots and the lobs? How about some S&V to mix it up? No, Fritz just stood there, waiting until the ground stroke battle would magically shift in his favor, which it did in the 3rd, then couldn't keep up the intensity and Sinner overtook him to win in straight sets. Top sports is tough, tennis possibly among the toughest. Fritz didn't bring it on.
excellent summary, Sinner was not at his best, specially on forehand. Frith could have increased the pressure by varying the game but it did not look like he could because A) Sinner hits hard cutting the time you can plan anything; B) Frith is clearly weaker on the emotional front, which also cuts down your ability to counterattack at the necessary speed and precision.
Taylor you really did do well. Please don't be so hard on yourself. What I see (a 80+Granny) is Sinner is able to change from defense to offence a little bit better but you are getting there. Chin up..this Canadian fan loves watching you.
He played a really good tournament and might have won had he not have come up against a red-hot opponent in Sinner. He ought to be so, so proud of what he achieved and how far he's come as a player in recent years. He's definitely on the right path to future successes. Well done, Taylor.

Actually, a very nice and insightful interview by Taylor, and very relatable too. I agree with him that he's able to play better, but it is not easy to reach a 105% level in your first big final. Still, congrats for the amazing run
"I feel like I let a lot of people down" means there was just too much pressure put on him. The difference with the big 3 is that they didn't have this mindset, he needs to adopt that energy.

I feel like that’s this entire generations problem 1:56 - Mens and women’s - they all want to comply Djockovic and “go into lockdown” when their A game isn’t working. And they only works with very specific players. To be a champion. You have to have an -A / A & +A game. You can’t downshift into B mode and think that’s gonna work against a top player like Jannik. I don’t know if it’s the new stroke production- that lag he hits with - but I just don’t get the feeling like players today really know how to stroke the ball to utilize all the heights, spins & how to work shorter angled balls with deeper balls. It’s all straight/ linear play / and Jannik is too good for that.
That's right, he basically stood back and tried playing Janniks game and was afraid to come forward and attack. He needed confidence and to go for it, safe tennis isn't going to ever work against a Sinner who could be playing at a level that tennis has never seen at this point.
Also, did you notice, when he'd hit a volley he hit it nervously deep. He could have sliced those volleys and hit them short, he should have worked to bring Sinner forward more. Again he just seemed to stand back like he'd beat Sinner at his own game.
Fritz just doesn't have enough variety. Sinner loves to hammer away at fast balls. To beat Sinner you need a great volley, variety and good movement. Alcaraz has shown that using higher trajectory and spin upsets Sinner's rhythm and makes him overplay.
Taylor is a future USTA champion. He was Djokavic’s practice partner which tells you how good he is. He just needs to come to the net instead of staying at the baseline and deploying his powerful serve
Fritz spoke perfectly about why he lost this match. He clearly has enormous power, but that comes at the cost of consistency. When he throttles back that power against Sinner, he gets bullied. The answer must be to be able to maintain that peak power but increase consistency. That's so much easier said than done.
Fritz comes across as honest and humble and realistic and good analyses. If he can improve his speed and his backhand, he will win many tunings. Good thing there are some good people at the top like Fritz. Carlos and Djock I don't care much at all. Sinner is also a good person.
Dishonest to be disappointed. What did he expect? It is clear that his chances are very slim to win a major and reaching a final is a great result. I don´t see him reach more finals, maybe 1. To limited in his movements, his defending and his hands (dropshot, volleys, etc).
It was a painfully predictable outcome. Alcaraz and Sinner will dominate GSs for the next few years. Taylor should be proud, he had a rare opportunity and tried his best. Most don't ever reach a final.
Well, to be honest, he didn't go against Medvedev, I want Fritz to go to a slam final and win, but he played a Zverev who cracks under pressure to get here. To be honest, Sinner vs Medvedev felt like the final this time, Alcaraz and Djoker losing were bracket busters.
America is the 3rd most population but still no ATP player who wins any GS since GS was won for the last time by Andy Roddick! I remember America used to have great players like Agassi, Michael Chang, Sampras, Roddick, Connors, McEnroe and Courier
I understand the disappointment because the chance to win doesn't come around too often but he played well. Being up there with the best, one needs to focus on the positives and future improvement. No shame losing to Sinner who's able to give even Djokovic and Alcaraz a run for their money.
Bottom line is they’re games are similar but sinner is just better at it. Tiafoe would have had a better chance with his speed , unorthodox game and his control of the crowd
Just be thankful that you could go this far, thanks to other favorites, like Alcaraz, Djokovic and Medvedev, who are all ranked much higher than you, but were upset earlier to open the door for you. You're ranked #12 and Sinner's ranked #1 for a good reason, obviously. Quit moping and improve.

sad to say but I agree, honest but quite egocentric and like others hard to listen to also in terms of English, a language he seems to speak with just 100 words! Sinner in Italian is a joy to hear, american champions are not, what a pity.

Sinner is too good

He made a great Us Open. I was convinced that he would win this 3rd set, too bad.... but congratz to Sinner! 🎾
I thought that too because he was serving so well. You could tell that Sinner struggled a little bit.
There was no way he could win in three sets or even win the whole match. And Sinner didn't play well, to be honest, making many serving mistakes.
