I purchased hens last may 2023. They started laying in September of 2023. It was the best choice i could have ever made for me and my family. I know exactly what I'm eating because i know exactly what I'm feeding my girls. There is absolutely zero comparison to any egg you'll ever purchase in a store to growing and nurturing your own hens. I can attest to this first hand, happy hens lay happy and delicious eggs. I would encourage everyone if possible purchase your own hens. You'll make tons of mistakes along the way, i sure did. But I'm so glad i did it. Blessings to everyone on here. Happy health to you all.
Just my experience: My Conventional eggs have very pale yellow yolk and brittle shells. Cage-free brown eggs (20 cents more) have very orange yolks and a few less brittle shells. I think they have a better taste?(could be placebo) Since they're still crammed in a warehouse, maybe it's possible that cannibalism or the rare bug allows them to have more nutrients for stronger shells and orange yolks? Orange yolk could just be farmers substituting carotene or something for illusion of healthier chicken. I've not heard of farmers substituting calcium though I assume that would be a thing too.
Supposedly even if regulations stipulate you can’t “feed” chickens antibiotics, farmers will put antibiotics in the water chickens drink thereby not technically violating regulations
If you can afford the most expensive eggs, you can also afford to have some chickens and pay to have tjem takej care of. The best eggs come from your own land, just like all other foods.
Thank you for such a comprehensive video. I have only bought Pasture Raised eggs for a 5 years not but even this category is getting confusing. What are your thoughts on Restorative Pasture Raised (Vital Farms has this) and what are your thoughts on Regenerative Organic Pastured Eggs? Are these two options worth the extra money? I really like supporting Regenerative Farms but not sure if it makes a difference for the nutrients.
Will Eating the Eggs Raw make you sick ? I feel like it would be easier to drink the amount of eggs I want to in a day versus eating them, but I wonder if you would still get the protein effect if they're not cooked as well as getting sick, let me know, bro
- supersize me 2 explains this best tbh. - Egg yolks are supposed to be orange, just like you see in Japanese ramen. Orange = healthy. Yellow = sickly. @@Imbetterthanpaulallen best like he said Pasture-raised. If price is your worry just free range/run. You've most likely grew up with bad eggs so you won't know any better until you travel anyways
From my experience growing up in a so called ‘third world’ country and now living in North America, the diet and nutritional value of food in my house country far surpasses what we consume in North America. Not even close, the standard North American diet is so much worse than the standard African diet.
Great video, Would love to see a lab test nutritonal value breakdow between each type of egg. Also nothing was mentioned about the shell's elasticity. Cheaper eggs shell breaks easier while more expensive eggs typically have a tuff shell when you crack them. Would love a part 2 with this data.
I dont give a sh!t about the best egg i just want eggs and buy the cheapest ones at the supermarket, its kinda sad that they are in a cage ther whole life yes but my bankaccount is also kinda sad if i buy the best eggs and eat 6 of them every day
I buy eggs from Aldis that are pasture raised but on the carton it says “100% Vegetable Fed”. If they’re not eating bugs and worms, is it still worth getting ?
Can’t be both, unless you are following the chickens 24/7 to make sure they don’t scratch. Or maybe they supplement with only grains, etc.. But chickens eat ANYthing. Including chicken.
@@NutritionLibrarysomewhat true. We do know if the yolks are pale yellow they are not getting a diet high in carotenoids. Pasture raised eggs will not be pale yellow
I'm eating 6-8/day for weight lifting/keta type diet but can't afford $10 dz for the best so I get the cheaper ones. They taste like crap but I'm not that rich!!
CBC Marketplace has done testing on all of these eggs and have proven 100% that the the more $$$ eggs are no better than the cheaper eggs that most people purchase for much cheaper...
The quality of the yolk is qualitatively different with a more diverse diet through pasture raised, supplemented with quality organic feed. Another indication of quality is how difficult it is to crack the shell. If it is super brittle, the chickens aren't being fed silica among other key nutrients. So if the shell is weak, imagine the inside. If they're just measuring protein content then they're missing the point. It's the same when studies don't differentiate between grass fed beef and conventional, then lump in the results saying red meat is bad. No, the fat profile, lack of glyphosate, antibiotics and shots matter in the end.
Yeah, it depends on what the define as “better”. But in general there probably isn’t a huge difference between eggs besides a marginal difference in nutrient distribution.
If you think a sickly chicken in a cage lays eggs with the same nutrition value vs a healthy chicken able to walk around with sunlight, then please don't reproduce. What you said about ALA is flat out wrong, the conversion to EPA and DHA depends on genetics. I am a great converter of ALA to EPA and DHA genetically whereas most people are average and some poor. No clue where you got the notion from that it cant be converted.

since soy and flax seeds are estrogenic do the eggs become estrogenic too?

The shell doesn’t have to do with the quality of the yolk

So basically, it's how much you are willing to pay to feel better about eating an egg.
Vital Farms Eggs For the Win
I buy eggs from Aldis that are pasture raised but on the carton it says “100% Vegetable Fed”. If they’re not eating bugs and worms, is it still worth getting ?
Probably because: 1. They can't guarantee a given chicken was eating bugs/worms, and 2. To keep the vegetarians happy.
Can’t be both, unless you are following the chickens 24/7 to make sure they don’t scratch. Or maybe they supplement with only grains, etc.. But chickens eat ANYthing. Including chicken.
Avoid it. Vegetables fed is a marketing term that is not okay.
Pasture raised eggs at the store are 7$. Pasture raised from the next county is 4$. Buy local lol stop buying at the grocer.
I don't think you can tell anything by the colour of the yoke because they mix colourants into the feed to make the yoke look healthy

I see that mine are organic, range free.
Definitely eye opening about “range free” - at least they don’t have antibiotics but worse than I hoped
Having 4 soft boiled eggs right now
Does organic automatically mean it is corn / Soy free?
No, it can be organic corn/soy that is being fed to them and still be considered organic. Many labels say "vegetarian fed" to encompass this.
Sounds like it's mostly about your vote on how you want chickens treated and not really any nutrition value difference.
A video on meet would be great too. Grain vs grass fed
Great video. Do you recommend avoiding eggs if the only option is cage- free?
No. Any egg is better than no eggs

But then what was their testing methodology & criteria?
Bullfeathers. The omega 3/6 ratios are never as good in commercial eggs. Still a good protein for the money.
