- In 2003, the Spurs had a tough road ahead of them in the NBA playoffs…
Relive the Silver & Black’s journey to their second title in Part 1 of The Ring of the Rowel: San Antonio Spurs Docuseries '03 Championship right here on Spurs RUclips!
It’s ironic, everyone here in this video is complimenting Stephen Jackson for what he did but he basically detests his time in SA (he compared it to being in jail). Such a shame that he thinks that way, cause the 2003 team was incredible.
Well, Stephen Jackson has demonstrated, on numerous occasions, that he's not very smart. It's not surprising that he didn't understand how good he had it.
@@RicardoAGuitar *coughs* Malice at the Palace? Oh, excuse me.
Agreed!! If he knew how much respect this city actually has for him. It’s a shame. He does it that way, and Robert Horry does the same. San Antonio owes about 3 championships worth to them.
He’s mad about 2014 season because we cut him

That should be the latter part of 2012-13 Season.
That vacated slot was given to TMac.
Looove this series. Brings back a lot of great memories.
That Laker Dynasty seemed like the longest three years of my Spurs loving life. After ‘99, we were still dominating the lakers during the ‘00 season. Then Timmy gets hurt and we lost PHX in the first round and don’t get to play the Lakers. By the time ‘01 rolled around, Shaq and Kobe had completely grown out of our control. Especially when we had no athletic wingman to match up with Kobe. Derek Anderson had brought some hope but also got hurt against the Mavs and never fully recovered by the time the Lakers rolled around. In ‘02 we still had a big hole at the 2 guard so we got destroyed again. When ‘03 rolled around, it felt different.
That Steve Kerr game was amazing
I still remember Kobe' (RIP) and Fisher' tears on the bench. Felt so goood
Nobody expected the Spurs to win it all that 2002-03 Season.
They were basically unassuming and under-the-radar.
The Lakers are the league's apple of the eye, as always.
Dallas started the Season 13-0 (or 14-0)?
Sacramento loaded even more, revved to bounce back after being so close dethroning the Lakers.
Further international interest because of China's Yao Ming.
This is the first year of the Rodeo Road trip (8-1), which become SA's "season routine" to sharpen their bunker mentality for the homestretch and preparation for the Playoffs.
Traded Antonio Daniels (developed into the team's reliable scorer) to Steve Kerr.
25 y/o rookie Manu Ginobili was signed, in hopes for him to fill the slot.
Nenad Kristic was the intended draft selection but New Jersey took him. SA used it to pick John Salmons instead, later traded for Craig "Speedy" Claxton as backup PG voided by Terry Porter's retirement.
This is the time Coach Pop implemented new offensive plays at the perimeter to complement the youth movement's speed, off-ball motion plays, and international experience. This also lessened the burden to "four-down", a playsign for Tim to get the ball inside and wait how the defense reacts.
With Parker, Manu, Speedy, and Jackson doing their motion offense, Tim Duncan improved his passing skills this season.
Youth is well-complemented with veterans at the twilight of their careers. It was perfect mix.
And this championship run proves the 1999 Title is no fluke. From "asterisk", Phil called the 2003 Title finish as "aberration."
Anyhow, this Title kept Tim Duncan a Spur for life, signing a 7-year deal worth 110M-plus.
(And pardon the litany.)
i am obsessseddddd with these !! GO SPURS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I worked at Mimi’s Cafe as a bartender. A French cuisine in San Antonio Texas, La Cantera area. Stephen Jackson once came in with his lady and had a Bloody Mary. He was kind, appreciative, and just a cool dude. Has nothing to do with the video but this brought back that memory. Love my spurs forever
Will always be my favorite championship! People forget we weren’t always this revered powerhouse. We had been criticized and mocked for the lockout 99 championship. This team overcame a gauntlet and finally shut down all of the side of the mouth talk. The 2nd round win over the Lakers, like Malik said, was a championship all in itself.
Go spurs go
I’ve said it b4, by far my fav championship. And thank you Spurs for letting me say that. 03 Father’s Day brand new SBC center. With my dad, brothers and uncle and cousins. Celebrating like crazy when David lifts that trophy. If not my favorite all time memory, damn near the very top of the list.
Go Spurs Go!!!
My favorite scene seeying;Kobe crying best scene ever!!!!
I’m sure Duncan was crying even worse when the Lakers swepted and gentlemen swepted the Spurs in 2001 and 2002, including whooping the Spurs asses by 39 & 29 points games 3 & 4 2001 WCF. And I’m sure Duncan cried like a baby after Kobe without Shaq gentlemen swepted Duncan’s ass in the 2008 WCF, preventing them from winning back to back titles.😂🤣

Liar. Pathetic Sasuke's butt.
Please present a link Timmy cried.
And hey, you might bring up what happened to Kobe.
After the dethronement, Kobe had a time to make an immoral extracurricular.
Blowout leads don't mean a thing if one of the players responsible for it is in the afterlife, reminding again basketball is a pathetic achievement if you're not responsible outside of it.
And you might be next. ;)
@@Theterminato2013
Liar, as always.
Shame on Sasuke.
I used to hate seeing the Spurs and Lakers playing each other. It would give me anxiety just thinking about it. Now, I miss it. I the rivalry. I miss Kobe. You dont know what you got till it's gone.
I remember this series and i can say hats off to Malik Rose. Covered Shaq most of the time.
I remember that horry miss as much as any huge spurs shot. I couldn’t bring myself to watch. I closed my door and waited to hear my family cheer from my bedroom. I was too nervous lmao
Dethroning the 3 time Champion Lakers was our NBA title. The rest was a foregone conclusion. GO SPURS GO!!
Spurs forever !!!
*We were the reason that Laker team broke up.*
Hell yeah
And the San Antonio Spurs had broke Kobe Bryant,so get your ass out of here with that alright
It could have been 4peat for them but yeah, Spurs happened 😅
LMAO, you guys are a year early. Shaq and Kobe stayed together for one more season before finally breaking up after losing to the Pistons in 2004. If anything the PISTONS were the reason Kobe and Shaq broke up, but what can I expect from delusional spurs fans.
@@Theterminato2013 *The shockwaves the San Antonio Spurs sent through NBA history often began with murmurs. To your latter note, I don’t blame you, I blame the system for the mindset you possess.*
It's our time you here that LA!
2002-03 San Antonio Spurs 60-22 overall(nba champs 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏀)
wonder why jakson wasnt in these videos
Bruce Bowen OG 3&D guy
One of the most underrated defenders
Horry missing the 3 pointer at the end of game 5 borders on divine intervention.
Good point.
Thankfully, he almost ran out of bullet in that entire postseason.
Or the burden repeating that heroic shot the previous year opposite Sacramento went way too much.
Can you say class.
dale spurssssssss
And San Antonio Spurs will make a statement loud and clear in 2002-03
This showed how loaded the West was.
how come stephen jackson isn't interviewed in this documentary?🤣
Honestly the music to start these videos is annoying as hell
San Antonio Spurs had lost to the LA Lakers from the playoffs 2 yrs in a row
So?...
If that's other teams, they would quit.
Bandwagons would love to thrash and bash, but will simply and quietly leaves if their bet is no longer significant.
the 03 spurs didn't face legends like jerry west larry bird magic johnson kareem abdul-jabbar oscar robertson bill russell and wilt chamberlain
So...what's your point?
Did you play against them? 😁

Every era has distinct traits and characteristics.
Thrive in whenever era we are a part of, and quit complaining.
Thankfully, the Spurs don't care about comparisons, but they have high regard to the people and players that came before them
-- unlike today's NBA.
it's PERMANENTLY all about the rankings
STILL NO FREAKIN' CAPTIONS....FIX THIS!!! I try to watch this at work & can't have the volume blaring to hear all the ups/down in volume....Jesus it shouldn't be this hard
You're not entitled either, much like the Spurs are.
