They are definitely not lip syncing. I went to see them in Birmingham in the UK 2022. I have footage from the front row in the audience if you need further proof these guys are legit talented and very entertaining.
Love this guy. He’s obviously good at his craft and he’s still out here opening up and accepting everyone. He’s obviously one of those people who want others to do well. Get him back on
The line "I'll hurt him. One thing's for sure and two things for certain. Money gets made and the packs I'm servin'. He mess with the cake and I'll Battenberg him" is ONE OF THE HARDEST LINES EVER WRITTEN THAT WENT OVER EVERYONE'S HEAD: 1) Battenberg or Battenburg is a light sponge cake covered in marzipan which displays a distinctive two-by-two check pattern alternately coloured pink and yellow when cut in cross section. 2) "Cake" is slang for money, cocaine, and booty. HOWEVER, "white girl" is also slang for cocaine, the marzipan covering an actual Battenberg cake CAN BE WHITE and you know "booty" means both ass and pirate's loot/profit. 3) So, "he mess with the cake and I'll Battenberg him" FIRSTLY means: "he tries eating my white girl's cake; my white girlfriend's ass/booty and I'll slice and dice him" 4) "He mess with the cake and I'll Battenberg him" SECONDLY means: "He cuts a slice of the white girl/cake, the cocaine...." 5) "He mess with the cake and I'll Battenberg him" THIRDLY means: "He cuts a slice of the cake...." the booty being money this time. Cutting into profits. 6) Ambulances in the UK have a checkered pattern on them called "The Batternberg Pattern", and so, Pete means "I'm going to send whoever messes with the cake to the hospital" when he says "I'll Battenberg him" 7) As mentioned in the first point, the cake's name can interchangeably be spelled with "berg" or "burg". Yet, BOTH of these spellings add layers of meaning, as "Batt n' Berg" and "Batt n' Burg". 8) "Batt n' berg" = Batter and berg, "berg" meaning "put him on ice". 9) "Batt n' burg" = Batter and burg, "burg" meaning "burgle". So, he's going to beat the shit out of someone and presumably recover the stolen profits or product. 10) Pete ran a fighting ring, and so, "I'll Battenberg him" ties back to what he previously said: "I'll hurt him. One thing's for sure and two things for certain". Boxing gloves often have a checkered pattern on them, so he's going to give whoever messes with the cake "the ol' 1-2"/take them out with a 1-2 punch. 11) As I said in the 2nd point, "cake" is slang for money and "checkered cake" would mean dirty money (the money he made from the fighting ring), and so, Pete may use his dirty money to knock whoever messes with the cake out.
You see a few old fellas in a London pub talking like this. Don't take liberties. You can easily go to hands but after a few phone calls there are 10 car fulls looking for you fast. The respect is earned.
I am so impressed with the acceptance and love shown by the wider (particularly US) rap community. This is maybe the tenth P&B reaction video I’ve seen and without exception, you guys find your way from understandable disbelief to respect and appreciation for these amazing artists. You get only respect and love in return. It’s a beautiful thing when we can all be family.

Yes the write their own shit. They've said before in interviews this is their most commonly asked question. They've said that they get words and inspiration from grandkids and then they use their own lingo from their time mixed in so it's a combo of both worlds. The only story of how they met that I've ever heard is also from an interview where one of them was talking about how the other is classicly trained as a musician and he heard him playing music out a window and went up to investigate and they talked and then hit it off and became friends.

Pete was actually about that life. He was in gangs in the London burrows. Bas was recently released from prison a few years back. That's why he referred to Her Majesty's prison, which is an actual prison in the UK. They actually write their lyrics and their grandkids make the beats for them.
Bas is originally about the life as well. Bas’ dad was a unlicensed bareknuckle boxing promoter and Bas got involved with that, now that is where you meet the real London faces - proper OG organized crime faces

To answer your question at the 8:20 mark, it's easy... Newer, more modern music was probably their only frame of reference. My pops tried rapping (not for real, just bullshittin around) in the 90s but yet still sounded like Kool Moe Dee, because early 80s hip-hop was the only rap music he was familiar with and therefore thought that's what rapping's supposed to sound like.
They definitely are a part of the writing process. Both are ex-cons from the old life. The world before the internet. They have their grandsons help them with modern slang as far as I’m aware but the bars are based on thier experiences and lives.
As far as I’ve researched on Pete and bas they were gangsters who went to jail and they both decided they wanted to rap in their 20s or 30s but they put it off for other things and finally in their 70s as old men with children and grandchildren they got into rap because of their grandchildren who put drill rap on in the car and when Pete asked bas if they ever did rap before he said something along the lines of “yeah I think we tried it when we were younger but we forgot about it” That concludes the story now as for their writing they both write their own stuff together I believe and if they need help with slang they ask their grandchildren but they don’t help Pete and bas with writing only help with newer slang words
The unawareness to call yourself a black horse fly is impressive!!! Didn’t think anyone could or would do this unironically but I am happy to be proved wrong.
Me being from South London and 44 I can tell they definitely have an influence on the lyrics at the very least because of the old white gangster slang, the younger G's just wouldn't know that much, trust me
