Hello Nancy! Your videos are Godsent! I am an English preschool teacher in Mexico. We start the "new normal" distance learning on the 24th and I was quite nervous of how to engage with all new students. This is perfect! I will definitely be watching all of your videos in the series to make sure I have the tools to give my students the best learning experience possible.

Good video! Three things I learned about teaching ESOL overseas: Avoid on-line TESOL courses like the plague. Many countries won't give you a visa if you have one, and many companies won't even consider you for employment if your degree was obtained on-line. Ditto for TESOL certs that are under 120 hours. (I’d go for 140 just to be safe.) Lastly, MEMORIZE Mark's English Grammar Shortcuts - saves a boat load of teaching headaches.

Hi Nancy, nice to meet you. I am an English teacher who just started to teach children like beginners English in China. After I saw some of the previous Chinese teachers use TPR, I was so confused and admire how professional they were. I wish I could do so; however, I have no idea what actions were for some specific words. After watching your video, I noticed how passion you are about teaching and how nice you are when you facing children. I am motivated. I will keep learning to improve myself. Thank you very much.

What helps for me - to mitigate the feeling of making a fool of yourself - is that before I step into the classroom (and employ this technique), I convince myself that this greatly helps students (we do this automatically when we are in a country in which another person doesn't speak English quite well). Also, you don't have to say things in a childish way; use gestures you feel comfortable with to start off. I also check understanding by asking lots of questions in L2 (I'm talking about the beginning stages). I also start in a bit of a joking way. They are allowed to find this funny, but they need to do it as well. It stands and falls with a pedagogically safe environment.

Thank you Nancy. I have taught Community adult College ESL for 19 years in California. However, the last ten years our students have decreased (cost of living in Orange County, etc). It was my time to get laid off due to a lack of students and in my community. However, in Irvine, they are a lot of young asian students needing instruction. This is where I need to go. Excellent instruction to do this.

Hello Nancy , I enjoyed your video as a preschool teacher I use TPS in my circle time songs, and when identifying animals with my students. The parents come in and ask me to show them how to do it, so they can sing- along with their son/daughter at home using the hand movements. And for your question on watching your video non-stop it is called Binge watching and if you are telling some one that you stayed up and watched an entire series of something, then you say to them, that I binged watched Grey's Anatomy last night.

It really does paint such a clear picture on why we use non-verbal communication to fill in any gaps on word recognition. The big take away is having the student do the actions as well. Connecting words and language to movement is gold!

This video is very helpful in identifying the different types of TPR and when to use each type. Many of my beginner students also copy the TPR for repeat and say. However, I would rather them repeat all the TPR than none of it. Many of my students I have to be persistent with because they do not repeat ANY TPR. I am not sure if they do not understand I want them to repeat or if they are shy because it is a new environment.
    Thank you for the advice.

Nancy! Thanks for your super helpful videos!!!! I did my mock 1 class yesterday and submitted my docs, signed the contract, and was invited to teach level 1, so I think I'm almost hired and don't have to teach a second mock class! Very happy about that. I appreciate your tips :)

Before ending the video, you could ask your audience to subscribe your channel and turn on the alarm preventing rom they don't see your new video. Also, you could ask them to share when you begin your video.

Hi Nancy, how are you ? I love your videos I'm a new ESL/EAL teacher and I find your videos very helpful. I have 2 questions for you? How do you deal with students that are not on the same level as the rest of their class? They are on a very low English level in terms of vocabulary, sentence formation and understanding. I'm interested to know more about the online teaching website you were using with your students. Is this your personal website or a company you work with? Thank you

I work for VIPKid, and that is the platform that I use to teach! I'd love to help you out if you are looking to start teaching online! My website for contact info is heynancytaylor.com or just email me directly at nancytaylor6262@gmail.com . When students struggle I have a different expectation for them. We popcorn read or take turns on the reading portion and I don't expect them to solidify every objective. I focus on one and master it and then leave in the notes for the child what to work on in the next class! Hope to help you out in the future!

Hi Nancy, I'm thinking about starting my own vipkid RUclips channel! You inspired me! I didn't realize you could do "in classroom" examples! Does vipkid approve of this as long as you protect their identity? Just want to make sure!
