    Thank you so much. Incorporating your own language is really helpful because I get to understand how the student feels and thinks like.

    honestly, I wish the efl teachers I had back in the day put half of the effort you put in your classes. As an aspiring teacher, I have to say you are absolutely inspirational. Keep it up :) cheers

    Ha - just looking at this again. :) Bling-tee bliss-kiss! :) I think you should get this new language written - "Nancy Notations!" It's kind of like Klingon, but much prettier! ;)

    Nice. I think I should get a small white board. Isn't it hard to hold it in front of the camera and write on it at the same time?

    • @NancyTaylor
      @NancyTaylor  4 года назад

      If you get a good size it is very doable. I would practice with the whiteboard ahead of time to see if it is a good fit. I have all sizes, and I like the ones I had cut myself at Home Depot for a class set of 36 students:)

    Hello Nancy ! After you go through the hiring process, background check etc. Do you have to take the quizzes to be certified before parents and students can book you for classes?

    What do you do with trial classes where the student is completely new and they don't understand that they need to draw. I tried each of the methods you talked about. I even used a mirror to show that they can draw and circle.

    • @NancyTaylor
      @NancyTaylor  6 лет назад +1

      That is all that you can do! I also click on the FAQ at the top of class and it has it translated to Chinese so you can copy and paste in the chat box for mom/dad to see. I also leave it in the feedback, which is always translated for them!

      Just to show you what it feels like when learning a new language. I created the language to show you how our student's are learning English without being told in their own native language what the meaning or translation is. They learn through pictures, non-verbal communication and lots of practice and repetition to pick up the meaning of things! Does that help?!

    I feel discouraged. I love teaching ESL. I do great with adults. But I want to make more money teaching children. The problem is that I am paralyzed from the chest down. I can move my arms, but not my fingers. How am I supposed to do all this tpr and modeling? I can't do all these hand signs, and I can't pick up random objects quickly.

    What if in the “you do” part students don’t know the vocabulary?
    When are you teaching vocabulary then?

    • @NancyTaylor
      @NancyTaylor  5 лет назад +2

      The lesson plans should be built so that only new content is seen on the slides that you need to model. Anything that wasn't on the slide that you taught or introduced the child to you can assume has already been taught, but if the child hasn't mastered it you may have to step in and do some "we do". For VIPKid it says, "Introduce" in the top right corner for any new content.

      Hi Nancy, thank you for your reply. I am an ESL teacher, non native speaker. I am watching your videos to learn more. I just wonder if you know a website that can help me to write my lesson plans for non native speakers, their first language is Spanish, but they are learning English. They are beginners and intermediate level. I appreciate it.
      Thank you

    Which language do you speak?

  • @KarenMSmith-ck3ul
    @KarenMSmith-ck3ul 4 года назад

    good job but teachers need to be mindful of their learner group and consider cultural concepts. So much of what we do is eurocentric or assumed. Eg you showed a drawing of a baseball cap and then held up a xmas hat. Many ESL Ss do not have santa claus or baseball in their culture esp if they are refugees so they may be confused as to why the hat you are holding is related to the picture. In fact, if I don’t think baseball cap that drawing could be many other things like a ball, a pumpkin, a grass basket, a cake.
