Something I would also like to point out is that Sega should explore more of Amy's mystical and magical side, it's a shame that Sega hasn't explored Amy's potential.
I would love for them to explore more of that. I’m curious on how Amy learned to use tarot cards. Like, did she teach herself of did someone actually teaches her?
I also like "Amy's" portrayal as Nimue in Sonic and the Black Knight. She isn't obsessive over Sonic; in fact she seems a bit taken aback when he approaches her quickly. She's very calm, wise, and helpful. Sonic even seems to be comfortable around her, which implies he may like Amy as more than a friend if she becomes a little less clingy.
I thought more recently when he seemed to try playing it cool around Nimue it was like practise run before getting back to his own time and Amy, as after all, he was on his way to a date with her that he had arranged during Unleashed, and that second chili dog he was holding onto was her.
yea, but im honestly not digging the whole sonamy thing. while i like nimue, id rather sonic and amy be friends. it would destroy the whole purpose why they weren’t together, because sonic seemed too ‘cool’ to have a gf
I think you're right abouf amy potentially eclipsing shadow. The outrage the fandom had over amy being absent from mania and origins as a playable character really shocked me, I'm glad the fans are outspoken about defending her now. If her characterization stays consistent from frontiers and forward, she could rival shadow for the most popular character easily.
16:15 alright, as someone who does miss fangirl amy i can fully agree to this. the whole marriage line does feel out of nowhere and unnecessary compared to the more important task at hand which was saving chocola and clearing sonic'd name. if they only had her chasing sonic in the ending for example and had her focused on her goals and friends the entire way through, heroes amy would of been fantastic imo. this video made me realize how much balance matters when it comes to how she's depicted. i like an amy that's as caring as she is in sa1/sa2, but knows when it's okay to act as crazy as she does in heroes. that stubborn nature of hers could be softened a bit sure, but don't make it her core trait. in that sense, i think i agree with where you're coming from. i just don't want anything like boom amy being carried over into game amy. she's not shy or secretive about her feelings for sonic. she wears it on her sleeve proudly.
I agree that Amy's crush on Sonic that shouldn't be the only defining thing, however that doesn't mean we should remove or diminish it. Amy's crush was never the problem, it was how it was portrayed. To finish I'll just say that the games since Colors were written by people who know nothing about Sonic like Pontacc, that's why we have those scenes in Generations and Lost World and Amy wasn't the only one who suffered from this, but also Tails and Knuckles.
One small scene that I will always make love Amy actually comes from Sonic Riders 😅 Eggman steals the Key to Babylon Garden out of Jet's hands in front of everyone and she's the first to jump to action. Running after Eggman to save the day, not Sonic or Jet... Amy is the only one who goes for it! (It gets her in trouble afterwards but still...)
I used to not like Amy when I first got into Sonic, but her hammer, her tugging on the heartstrings of those around her, along with her ability to be proactive has changed my opinion on her. The flanderization of her being shortsighted and only thinking about her feelings for Sonic in the early 2010s gives me a headache. Even if she isn't going to be a playable character in Sonic Frontiers, I'd like to see some more of her traits from the Adventure Era once again.
Amy Rose is a very important character in the Sonic Series. She has done so many great things over the years. And she has also grown so much as a character as well. She was once upon a time a damsel in distress like in Sonic CD. But then we all saw how much more independent she got after Sonic Adventure. She defeated Zero by herself in Sonic Adventure. She helped Shadow remember Maria's promise in Sonic Adventure 2. We even see how determined Amy was to help Cream find Chocola and Big find Froggy in Sonic Heroes. Amy's ability to always stay positive and never give up are such great things to have. Amy Rose is an inspiration to me. I Love her and Respect her for who she is. She is My Favorite Sonic Character, and I am so blessed to be a fan of hers for almost 13 years now. ❤
Honestly I love the adventure game’s portrayal of Amy. But I also like her power and anger in Sonic X as it shows people not to mess with her so I’d say combine the two.
I hope Amy is a great character again like in Adventure. Probably she’ll be a great help from what we’re aware that Sonic lost his memories and if he gets her back, perhaps she’ll help him regain it little by little, and with Sage, maybe she’ll find a way to look for the good within her like she did with Shadow. That’s what I hope for, but we don’t know for sure
I'm excited to see how she's portrayed in Frontiers with Ian Flynn being behind the pen. He stays so faithful to the characters' personalities so I'm hoping she makes some very important moves in the story (forever hoping we can play as her and other characters as well). I could see Sonic being on the brink of death and Amy coming in full force swinging her hammer to take on the boss herself.
@@dragondelsur5156 Ummm no he definitely is not. He's a Sonic fan himself and understands the characters to a T. Anytime they're portrayed incorrectly is due to SEGA's absurd mandates on them that make no sense. It's why Ian has stated he hates writing for Shadow because he can't write him how he actually wants to (what Shadow is actually supposed to be like) and is forced to make him dark/broody when he is not.
@@silverguy526 When Ian says that Amy is "all over the place" or describes her with the same tiring words, is that actually understanding the character? Because this screams of someone that doesn't.
@@dragondelsur5156 He's talking about how SEGA has portrayed her and other characters over the years and how it's difficult for him to write for them due to their mandates and how badly they fucked up the characters over this past decade.
@@silverguy526 I feel that the mandates at this point seem to be an excuse he goes to when he messes up. He's not an awful writer or the worst when it comes to Sonic comics (KP takes that spot) but he has a bias towards the female characters of this franchise, how he described Amy (false claims), claiming Rouge is just sex appeal (already tiring to hear), claiming that Cream should not be involved (by that logic Charmy neither) and how Blaze is the only useful character (because FUEEEEEGO). And I get that the meta era messed up shit but Flynn worries me more, it worries me that in a game where Amy is supposedly going to get the central spotlight after 29 years of existing, her spotlight is going to be stolen by an edgelord or she's going to be portrayed incorrectly again (obsessive fangirl or false role model), do remember that in the zombot arc she got stuck in a desk for the mayority of the story and it wasn't until Evan came along that Amy got out of that role.
Amy in Sonic CD/Mania Adventures/Origins: Timid, yet earnest Amy in Sonic Adventure through to Sonic '06: Delusional ''Romantic'' Amy in Sonic X: Absolute psycho who ought to be locked up Amy in Sonic Unleashed through to Sonic Generations: Well-meaning sweetheart Amy in Sonic Lost World through to Team Sonic Racing: Generic girl archetype Amy in Sonic Boom TV Series: Mostly airy-fairy, but with a sassy, no-nonsense warrior side Amy in Sonic Archie/IDW Comics: About as good as she's ever going to get
I think it would be hilarious for her aggressive behavior from Heroes and Generations to be a “past me was cringe” thing for her that she doesn’t like hearing brought up. Canonizing it as just a phase she thankfully grew out of
Amy rose's character is just wonderful and she is just really seeing the good in people so amy is always going to be my favorite character and I want for her to be in sonic movie 3 ace card gaming!
watching this video post-sonic frontiers release. OH BOY, no spoilers, but be hopeful for amy and sonic's dynamic in that game. Absolute gem of characterization for her.
I wish Sega could give Amy her own game. I just imagine that Amy, Cream and Cheese travel to a musical/magical village, learn that something is going on, make a new friend that teams up with them and they work together to save the day.
The idea of Amy (and Cream) traveling to a magical village is actually interesting considering Amy herself has magical powers. Maybe the reason what they go in the first place is for Amy to gain more knowledge on her powers and she grows more in touch with them throughout the game.
Great video as usual! I always enjoy your character analysis and this was no exception. The future is definetly looking brighter for the characters, let's hope it plays out well. I agree that Amy shines best when helping others and is away from Sonic: if they toned down the crush on Sonic it would do her character a lot of good!
Whilst I am more than happy many fans are asking for her in Sonic Movie 3, I agree Amy is in desperate need of a character redemption (much like Knuckles and Tails). I'm ok if they keep the infatuation with Sonic, but it needs to be toned down greatly
Yeah, and if they want to make them a thing in the movies then they need to make Sonic and Amy's relationship grow and develop to the point where they understand each other, help each other, care for each other, and at some point, like like each other. It'd be cute.💙💓
Amy Rose was a favourite of mine growing up. I loved her design, and her personality depending on the game. As an adult, she's a mixed bag. I particularly like her in the classic and adventure era, and she was well written in Sonic Chronicles. That, and the IDW Comics I'm interested in giving a read considering what I've heard. In other games though, she can be either overly stereotypical and one-note, or generally annoying and repetitive. Granted, when she's at her worst so are the other characters, but I don't think the poor characterisation with the other members has been as noticeable as hers, which is a letdown but understandable since she comes off as one of the most colourful members. I barely took note of any of the unfortunate leaks of Sonic Frontiers, but from the quick notes I took I'm left reasonably satisfied for now. Just gonna have to wait and see how the game fares.
Amy Rose💖💖deserves better hope in the future 3rd film she gets confirmed I also wonder how will they handle her if she gets confirmed. But also hope her character is way better in the sonic frontiers.
I like in '06 Amy and Rouge both decide without hesitation that they would side with Sonic and Shadow over the world. Amy's love for Sonic being her main reason. Rouge because she's seen all the crap Shadow went through since awakening from his stasis and is the only one who understands him apart from Sonic.
A shame Amy never got a heroic start like Coco Bandicoot who was hacking into Cortex's plans in the 2nd Crash game and kicking butt in the 3rd game with even a boss fight.
I do hope Amy is portrayed better and more grounded in Sonic Frontiers. She might still have a crush for Sonic, but Sonic now also realizing that he doesn't have to avoid her all the time and just talk to Amy.
Man,I can't fully understand most of the video but your video's atmosphere and main thoughts makes me feel a lot of emotions(My English doesn't let me to express them here). I really wanna finally learn English and back here to understand all in this great video and the whole channel.
You should do a video covering all about the characters portrayal in Sonic X. I’d especially love for you to cover how in sonic X knuckles is the only one besides Tails and Chris able to repair the blue typhoon.
I do not see many videos about Amy, and even fewer going over both her highs and lows. I enjoy all Sonic discussion, but it is definitely refreshing to hear you speak about Amy - a lesser discussed character - for a little while. And considering the things I am working on myself, it's a helpful reminder of how simple yet difficult writing for Amy can be. Very nice video as usual, man. You never fail to give me a nice way to spend some time and refill my motivation tanks. I am pretty confident that Amy will be very enjoyable in Sonic Frontiers. I don't think I will like her as much as her IDW counterpart, because writing dialogue for games is very different than writing dialogue for comic pages, but I have faith in the writers to do a good enough job. Forces Amy was a step up from many of her recent "Meta Era" incarnations, so if they keep the upwards momentum going (no pun intended) then I will not be able to complain.
I remember my first introduction to the Sonic franchise which was Sonic X where I actually didn't like Amy. It always rubbed me the wrong way how she was very obsessed with sonic and it was creepy. The only time I liked Amy was her Boom version.
to me they schould make a mix of the amy from the adventure/06 era and maybe make a more developped bond/dynamic with sonic (without putting her in his shadow) maybe even make a couple between the two (I have to precise that i'm not a sonamy shipper or a shipper at all) it could give maybe interesting developpement for her and sonic and other characters. i'm pretty curious to know your opinion over this too ace. and as always this is some great content and i'm always happy to see more of your content.
Glad you enjoyed it! Personally I generally fall on the side of Sonic not being in a relationship. But explaining that is probably a video in itself! 😅
I love amy rose and I love her new design with her hammer plus she's so in love with sonic and she'll always be one of my favorite characters ace card gaming!
23:03 This was a great video analysis ace I can’t wait to see more of these of other characters, although I’m very confused on why you didn’t show much lost world, forces and team sonic racing footage where she has just become boom Amy especially in team sonic racing where she is mature sarcastic women who dosnet show any affection towards sonic and there just friends with a generic relationship , Sega over the past 11 years after generations they’ve tried so hard to not show Amy show any affection towards sonic to make people who don’t like her happy, instead of making a cherry happy girl because that’s so annoying towards them, it’s always adventure/dark era fans saying shes still a fan girl to prove how bad the characterization is in the 2010s instead of actually paying attention or just making things up, and Because of Amy still being accused of being a fan girl even though she’s not even shown any love towards sonic in the past 11 years sega is just gonna keep making Amy the “mature sarcastic strong women” like she was in boom and that’s the most liked version of her by people who don’t even like Amy, the characterization in the 2010s is still bad for her cuase they just remove any personality form her, instead of of critiquing sega for making a flanderized Amy this supposed “fan girl”in the 2010s that she even isn’t we should instead critique how they will just change characters personalities on a whim and without hesitation because some people don’t like them even though it’s segas fault they come up with nonsense of her being a “stalker” because they don’t how to write her properly most of the time, shows how much sega has respect for own characters and that’s how we gotten the worst versions of tails, shadow, eggman, sonic etc, keep up with the great content 👍
Amy haters are getting very annoying bringing thing's up like " fan girl " or stalker " is just excuse to hate on her their value point's are nothing anymore , say thing's like no one cares or likes Amy , um bruh she has lots of fan's , Amy is their punching bag at this point and it's sad notice some of them are shadow fan's
Amy Rose is the best sonic character in my opinion. I love all of her depictions in the games outside free riders and Battle. In Heroes I saw the marriage thing as a joke as it's not the 1st time she joked about forces sonic to marry her as in SA2 she joked about not telling him about where shadow is without him marrying her. I do agree heroes isn't the best depiction but it still shows her character in a more simple way. A kind spunky girl with a big crush. Also Sega states that sonic like likes Amy and I always thought he did but was too shy and just not ready and Amy knows this and teases him a lot. They are really close friends too and have been for longer than any other of sonic's friends. So they understand each other. I do like it when she expresses her feelings for sonic more but I can't wait to see her in frontiers. Amy for life .
Will be interesting to see how the change up in writing for Frontiers will work with the cast. I would have changed everything personally apart from Colleen and Mike.
I really hope Amy is in the new sonic movie coming out this year. I would love to see more character development in a good way and put her in a good light more.
I Think You Mean Amy Should Help Rouge To Be A Better Character For A Bat🦇 Since She Isn’t No Better Than Anyone Else Sonic, Amy, & All Their Friends Who Are The Good Characters. Especially Shadow & Omega. Rouge Just Needs Friends Like Shadow & Omega Who Can Help Her To Be A Good & A Better Character For Herself Which She Should Be Thankful To Have Friends Like Them That Cares That Much About Her.
I've always loved Amy, but like many supporting characters, she was reduced to ashes in the Meta-Era. Her kind and empathetic nature (when utilized) is unmatched and inspirational; which could positively impact anyone. I'd say my favorite portrayal of Amy was from Golden Era to Dark Age (while Heroes and Battle did piss me off), she definitely shined in the moments where her focus was something other than Sonic. Amy also became an excellent character again via IDW comics, very reminiscent of her personality in the Adventure Era (which is great 😁) I'd also love if she had her own game someday with Cream as her partner, and a rivalry with Rouge (since they've had one in Sonic Battle & Sonic X). I've got faith that Amy will be done justice in Frontiers, because I love seeing an empath also be a complete badass 😎😎
If she’s going to have a rivalry with Rouge, it’s probably more tasteful for it to be more of a playful rivalry since there’s not much about Amy and Rouge for them to fight over.
Not according to the people who already bought Sonic Origins, instead of waiting for SEGA to release a physical version, with Amy and Metal Sonic playable.
If you want to blame anyone for Amy's inconsistent characterization, blame Sega of America. Also, I'm very surprised that nothing about Amy in Free Riders was mentioned. True, this was a spin off game, but this depiction is literally the embodiment of how badly she's been flanderized.
Yeah, literally the same reason I didn’t mention Black Knight. Good examples of characterisations but ultimately spin offs. Would love to cover everything but the video was already becoming bigger than I’d planned! 😅
Love this video so much! Since I got into Sonic (been a fan for over 10 yrs now!) I fell in love with Amy's Character for all the reasons you said, but she is always written/represented so poorly and it was upsetting. She has seen improvement in recent yrs, but I think they can do more. Hope Frontiers goes well for her!
Actually Amy does arguably have super strength as she Carries her Piko Piko hammer which is apparently super heavy as sonic and shadow can’t even lift it and only Knuckles can. But your point still stands.
I feel like it would have been much better if instead of making the characters that have gone though lots of development regress to their original state, they could instead become different characters based on how they were at the end of their particular ark. Oh wait that's extremely obvious why didn't they do that
This point was made in another video by Taro Marshmallow on the same topic I saw, but it worth bringing up here. Amy is like the least important main character and I hate it. Tails, Knuckles, Shadow all got to be the main secondary character in their respective first games. Amy hasn't gotten to have that kind of focus. The closest was saw was SA1 but like you said her contribution while a big deal to her don't factor into the main plot near as much as that of the other cast. We got her playable in the sonic advance games but yeah. 'she has great traits we just need to see them brought to the for front more. As for the most damaging? I speak for many when I say sonic battle. Remember when Amy hallucinates sonic fighting at her side and Rogue has to fight Phantom sonic and Amy herself? its played as a joke but even still.
With Amy, I didn't have a version of her that I didn't like as I feel that her love for Sonic is a symbol to show how Popular, Charismatic, and charming Sonic is in the world they're in. However, I can bet you 559 bucks, and I'm sure you can agree that if the genders of the two were reversed, where Sonic was a girl and Amy was the guy, there's a guarantee that NO ONE would be amused or heartfelt by it. Heck, there would be complaints and reports to Sega about it as much as you hear slander about Sonic 06.
Boom Cartoon and Comic book Amy is so far her best versions. I like Boom Amy because of her more mature attitude. Granted in the Boom universe every is aged up to a more mature level
While I do agree that Heroes went too far and that the trait should be secondary, though nowhere near to the extent you were prefer, I am not against her having the infatuation as part of her character, far from it. (I do not like Amy in Sonic Boom either, though that could because I dislike Boom in general) In contrast I feel it makes her multifaceted and like Eggman (regarding his comical traits) just needs her traits to be properly balanced. Her relationship with Sonic isn't completely one sided or a dead either either, as Naoto Ohshima has stated on Twitter that Sonic would grow to like Amy after he matures. While true he doesn't work at SEGA anymore, this indeed seemed to be the case before the Meta era screwed everything related to Sonic up as Sonic canonically did agree to the date Amy proposed in Unleashed, resulting in the set up for Black Knight.
I mean, of course we will all have different preferences and that’s perfectly ok. The only thing I can think of in your post that I can objectively point to is that Black Knight is a spin off and not considered part of the canon.
@@AceCardGaming Just because its a spin off doesn't mean that it isn't canon. Generations even mentions the Storybook series outright and the only spin off game stated outright not to be canon is Dark Brotherhood acording to the Enclosypeedia.
I wished she’s more caring adorable funny and independent back then in the games because I was sad she was most hated character and flanderization back then I hope she’s got her development well written and love she deserves
14:14 Meanwhile in Japan... "Hehe... How does it feel to see Amy Rose in all her splendor? " All Boom Amy was about was "we must all get together and talk about our feelings" which while Amy did look at helping people, she was never one to suggest group therapy sessions every two minutes.
She did still laser focus on Sonic and mention marriage in another scene in the Japanese version of my memory serves. Unfortunately still not the panacea we need as while the Japanese scripts are often better in places, they aren’t our localised version. So we have to analyse those first and foremost. I wish I spoke and understood Japanese! 😅
@@AceCardGaming in the marriage proposal in Japanese is more played off as a joke, with Amy being "eh, it was worth a shout." Rather than it being "its marriage or bust, my darling!" Sonic: Wha--Amy...? Amy: Shh! Keep your voice down. Hehe... How does it feel to see Amy Rose in all her splendor? Sonic: Why'd you come here... Amy: Hehe, Tails brought me along all the way here. You might wanna change your attitude, though. Since you seem to be in a lot of trouble and all? Sonic: Me?! I got myself caught on purpose so that I could look for clues on my impostor! Amy: Impostor? You mean the black hedgehog? Sonic: You met him?! Where is he now? Amy: If I tell you, will you marry me? Sonic (this time in actual English): No way! Amy: Tch! And here I thought I had my chance... Also, I have a fair few of the Japanese cutscenes with accurate subtitles - which Windii did before her channel went down - on my channel - shameless channel plug - with all the games from 1998-2009 along with a few Meta Era ones in Lost World, Boom: Rise of Lyric and Team Sonic Racing. So if you fancy seeing how the other half write it, you know where to look.
there was another thing as well that often gets overlooked with Amy in the games, in Riders when Wave was trying to put Tails down, she remarks about the swallow being "disgusting" and looks to race for the little fox cub's honour against Wave. Does Amy win? Considering that you are playing as Wave in the Babylon story, of course not, but it still shows Amy's not completely Sonic daft and is prepared to fight for her friends.
Amy did always try to find the problem and emphatize with the person as part of her good heart, she never tried to be a psychiatrist, she was just that friend that was always for you when you needed it. Boom Amy does the opposite to this, the slightest bit of trouble and she starts acting like a psychologist.
@@AceCardGaming I did see with the Japanese V-Tuber videos there was a recent subtitled clip of her talking to Tails about Sonic saying "it's fine! Besides, I don't want to be a bother to Sonic. I wanna watch him running carefree all around the world. I'll just catch up with if I have to!" Which certainly sounds a lot truer to Amy than whatever crap the English twitter takeover would write for her. Especially when you consider that they have Shadow saying about how he eats raw coffee beans for no other reason than the random lols. And this is exactly why I strongly dislike modern English Sonic, it's like it's got an abject fear of self respect and not making everything a joke because "oh no, Sonic 06!"
In the main line games the only versions of Amy I like are the Classic games , Adventure games and Sonic Frontiers , the rest can just burn in lava from Marble Zone , drown in Labyrinth Zone and get electrecuted and sqwished to death in Scrap Brain Zone .
I'm honestly surprised Amy hasn't been paired with Shadow much in the games. She is literally the reason why Shadow regained his memories and begin helping Sonic and the gang. You could write a lot of good interactions just from that fact alone, but instead they haven't done anything.
Great video. When it comes to Amy in IDW, not sure I agree on the early issues, it felt like since Ian couldn't use Sally Acorn, he was making Amy act like Sally just to give her longtime fans a character to latch onto, but it didn't work like that especially since there are several Sally and Amy fans who think the two hate each other because they like the same guy. Amy stepping down from the leadership role that was forced on her and just helping people on her own was a good step, now her kindness shows more since she doesn't have to be in control. Speaking of Archie, I think Amy had a great character arc in that series. Yes, she was definitely a fan girl, even going so far as to use a magic ring to make herself older for Sonic and become a Freedom Fighter like him (as well as make her more like her Adventure appearance) when Sonic got the ring to cure Sally's mother of an illness. But as time went on and Amy helped out more Sally became something like a mentor to the younger girl, helping her focus her energy so that not only could she help others but use her head while doing so. Amy even matured to the point that she was willing to let Sonic go when it looked like he and Sally were going to get back together and when Eggman roboticized Sally into Mecha Sally the mission she, Tails and Sonic became focused on was getting Sally back. Amy even refused to acknowledge the reprogramed robot chipmunk's taunts about how if she let Eggman keep her Amy could have Sonic to herself, Amy didn't care if Sonic would return her feelings, she just wanted her friend back. Sadly, the Archie storyline underwent a complete reboot before this arc could be finished properly. In the rebooted story Amy's kind nature shown further as the romance plotlines took a back seat, Sally and Sonic's relationship became completely platonic but Amy was more concerned about stopping Eggman and Dark Gaia while helping people like Knuckles along the way. I know many fans don't like the reboot storyline because the story they invested years into went poof because Ken Penders and his lawsuit, but I appreciate it for what it is and Amy's role if not given that much focus.
In Flynn's defense, the IDW continuity basically starts off right after Sonic Forces, and since Knuckles was already so badly forced into commander role ingame that Flynn just HAD to reestablish him as not being that in the comics, that means whoever else was high-ranked in the official game had to be made out to be the commander. Amy basically happened to fall into that spot, being the main communications expert on the resistance team in Forces, so the Sally parallels were likely not completely intentional (but he probably did run with it anyways since if the opportunity's there, might as well use it). Not to mention it wouldn't mean much for her to step down if it wasn't clear it took a toll on her because it's not something she's used to doing, which would presumably be a nonissue (or at least severely lessened) for Sally.
@@extremmefan7305 To be entirely fair here. Its quite clear Amy was turned into Sally as the Metal Virus outline was originally suppose to happen after the Mecha Sally arc so as Sally was a villain for so long did she obviously had a huge role and Ian had to fill that with someone now that Sally was gone so he used Amy's position in Forces to justify using her for it. This is made the clearest by a direct contradiction to slot Amy in and out of the role. Knuckles early one states that Amy was really running the Resistance to get her into the Sally role but right with the Metal Virus Epilogue in which Evan wanted to write a more conventional Amy again did Ian wrote Amy saying she was little more than a secretary during Forces to get her out of the leadership role and back into the regular Amy role for Evan.
As much as I like Heroes and Team Rose, Amy's portrayal in it is definitely not good. Most of her reactions to stuff involving Sonic are extreme, and would really only be funny not even in the early 2000s when Heroes released, but in the 90s when female characters WERE just used to the benefit of male ones, essentially being an unnecessary repeat of CD itself (as would many games later down the line, and to a slightly lesser extent Adventure 2's depiction of Amy who often ends up a damsel in distress herself at "best"). However, this is one of the games that establishes her friendship with Cream (Sonic Advance 3 being another, as they have an official team name: Team Jubilee), and even adds one with Big ontop of that. As soon as it's not about Sonic, she's more focused on getting her friends's friends back, which is a pretty noble act for someone who only knows said second friends (Chocola and Froggy) secondhand. If you rewrite her reaction to the journal as not believing Sonic would kidnap a chao and Froggy, it would actually seem believable since he's still her idol, way more than her just "thinking about Sonic". The fight with Team Sonic could actually have been made a plausible misunderstanding with some rewriting, too, giving a bit of an internal conflict between her known interest (who is also a friend of hers by this point) and her current goal (that being the missing friends which were implied to be kidnapped by Sonic; this way you could also make the other teammates chime in, because as is, Tails/Knuckles/Cream/Big are just standing there awkwardly in the back, which is especially OoC for Tails [the guy who's probably smart enough to figure out the misunderstanding] and Cream [who cares for Chao a lot, so she'd probably be the first one asking why mister Sonic would need to take Chocola away, which would confuse Sonic and unintentionally only make the misunderstanding worse]) You'd really only need to get rid of those chase scenes near the end, or write them out to be Amy thinking Sonic is running into more adventure, which she's interested in because she's been bored at the start and the whole game's levels were a fun rollercoaster that she probably doesn't want to stop yet (whereas Cream and Big have reason to stay behind now). There's just so much potential there, and you could STILL have a light-hearted tone with it, given that this is the compassionate team on the roster alongside Team Sonic. But as is... it's a waste. Follow Me, their team's theme song, should've been the biggest flag as to Amy's crush, given it's subtle enough to make it seem like she's just being nice, but instead we have shoehorned dialogue that just make her seem obsessive whenever Sonic's around or even mentioned.
I will say overall, in this video, you did a very great job of exploring her character. I just have a couple of things that son't completely sit right with me. 1.) When you did the Heroes section of her video, I think you did a good job showing the negative impact of her character and showed the problem of blind positivity people have excusing the pitfalls. However, I think you showed a bit of blind negativity in the section with the closest part to excusing it being when you said that you liked her interactions with Cream and Big. My issue is that you kind of underplayed her positive qualities in Heroes (showing her leadership skills and acting like a compassionate sister figure to Cream and Big), with only focusing on the negative aspect (being obsessed with Sonic), and calling the positives only 5% of her character in the game- which is a bit stingy if you ask me, at least a 40% would work or 25% if you really wanted to exaggerate (though I'd say 50%). My issue with people when they talk about her in this game is that they only want to explain her from either a positive or negative perspective that they either downplay the other side completely or just leave it to a throw away line. 2.) My other issue is more of what you either intentionally/inadvertently implied when you said that "Sonic and Amy bring out the worst in each other and should interact with other characters." I think it's fine, actually great, that they interact with other characters to help flesh them out, especially Amy. My issue is that it kind of implies that they shouldn't focus on or even try to improve the relationship between Sonic and Amy. In my opinion, it would seem more like ignoring an issue causing another issue of just leaving 2 characters, who should be friends and are the leading male and female of the franchise, with a problematic relationship. If you ask me, I think with good writing, they could make the relationship good, at least passable or even at most great (at least from a platonic level, romantically is dependent on the person). For example, maybe some story line where the two find a common ground and can respect each other as friends regardless whether the other has romantic feelings or not. I just think that fixing this relationship, though should be the only thing they focus on fixing or working on, should be something that is considered and should not make people think "wow... they should not be friends since they bring out the worst in the other" but make them think "ahh... I see why they are friends." Sorry my ramble was long, but still a good video all around, and you should keep up the good work. P.S. Adventure Amy=Best Amy and Free Riders Amy=Worst Amy
Hi! 1: I think people will disagree forever on the percentages around how good/bad Amy was in Heroes. I definitely lingered more on the bad because for me, that bad far outweighed the good. I still stand by what I said though, she was at her best when focusing on helping Cream and Big and I liked her relationship with them. Had they communicated her mission as helping clear Sonic’s name, and not focus so much on the crazy stuff? I think Amy would have been awesome in that game. Just my own views though, certainly not stating them as fact. 2: While I understand what you’re saying. I think it’s more of your own interpretation of what I said. I used that footage of SA2 where Sonic, Tails and Amy where talking together in the Ark for a reason. They bring out the worst in each other when Amy is laser focused on Sonic. But when they are around each other and concentrating on the plot? They are both at their best. When I said separate them, I definitely didn’t mean permanently to avoid the problem. I meant just enough to allow them both some growth and in turn, allow their interactions when they do happen, to be more grounded. Again though, just my own view. Thanks for your comment. Hope I somewhat cleared up my thinking on this for you!
I laughed so hard at the moment I saw my art of Amy kissing you! It's been a pleasure to help out on your video. As for your question of which Amy I like the most and least in my opinion: Best Amy: SA1, SA2, Sonic 06, Sonic Boom Worst Amy: Sonic X, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders
Basically what we learned was Amy is heavily underrated and Shadow is way too overrated and Amy haters are fake fans of the Sonic community who never seem to fully grasp and embrace Amy's real identity in characterization! The best characterization is her IDW interaction but give her the sassy and charismatic attitude! Overall pretty good video my man!
tbh the only thing I disagree with here is that she's better in Boom or the IDW comics than she has been. Like, I agree that the meta era went way too far, but I don't like that Sonic Team's current stance on her character is to "fix" her by robbing her of her personality. I don't want her to be a crazy fangirl who wants to beat Sonic into marrying her, but I also don't want her to be "stock badass female lead." Part of her charm, at least to me, is that she's really sweet but has a short fuse as well. It makes that hammer she wields fit her personality. Part of her charm is that she has a crush on Sonic, even if I don't think it should overtake her entirely anymore. The Boom series had her as "the woman who always knows best and calls out the others for being stupid." The IDW comics just transplanted Sally Acorn's personality into her. There's room for Amy to have a crush on Sonic, be sweet and loyal, be ready to bash a robot's head in if they piss her off, and be a reliable friend to Sonic all at once.
I think it’s all about striking a balance. Have her be multifaceted and display portions of all her traits. Just not go all out on a single one! I agree completely she doesn’t have to be the next Lara Croft or something. But she definitely needs some of that when you look at her character now.
I agree with everything you say, however to say that Amy has the same boring personality as Sally is redundant, the only time I ever considered Amy to be like Sally, was when she was a sort of admin leader. I never liked that about making Amy an admin leader who happens to be in an office, it doesn't feel like her. Good thing she left that position.
@@antrox2346 I didn't say Sally's personality was boring, I just said it doesn't suit Amy. She got a lot better in IDW when she handed over her duties to Jewel.
Finally, I hate how this version of Amy is treated as the only good version of her when it's literally just another "strong female character" with zero nuance.
In My Opinion out of all the character's in the Series Amy is starting to become my Most Favorite sure her character development has been back and forth over the Years but it never bothered me and I think she should get more appreciation from Fans sometimes her Obsession for Sonic can be funny to me nowadays the Game Frontiers found the right balance for her
Honest question: Do you think there's an organic way to nudge Sonic and Amy together? I sometimes fantasize that such a concept could work through these two changing each other for the better. I just... don't have the writing chops to specify what those might be.
Now that I have something to say about how Amy functions as a character, I could be safe to say that outside of her interactions with Sonic and few, she's overall a satellite character and for Adventure 2, she pretty much makes the progress of Tails overall pointless, freeing Sonic from the prison, reading what's on the wall only to never mention it to anyone else, actually robbing Rouge's resolvement and thoughts that there is something about Shadow that gives her an idea that underneath the cloak of the darkside he has, isn't too bad of a character to be around with as explained with the constant of imagery of Maria flashing left and right. If you take Amy Rose out in Adventure 2 in story modes, you would lose nothing and actually spares her the reductionism she has for the overall narrative. In terms of which Sonic game did nothing with her character, it is Sonic Rush, hands down.
Yeah, Amy's "No way out of marrying me" line in Heroes was cringe. But Team Sonic Racing had completely dropped Amy's "Sonic fangirl" side and I didn't like that either. I would prefer balanced approach with Amy being infatuated with Sonic AND being kind person who helps people on her own. I think Sonic X anime handled her relationship with Sonic the best.
I found Amy kinda annoying and too girly when I was a kid but I grew to appreciate when I get older. She is just kind and sweet character. There is nothing wrong with pink, femininity or girlishness.
I'm a mixed about Amy sometimes I'm not even sure if she's fine as she is or needs to bring her more than what she was when her character is already destroyed. I'm curious on how sonic bring Amy to her character.
I hope I'm in time to comment and amy rose is one of my favorite sonic character and I love how she handles her hammer plus her love of sonic is very sweet even if sonic doesn't feel the sane way so this is a great video! 💕🥰🎀😁💘😍
As far as the "Depiction in Heroes" thing, yes there are absolutely terrible moments in that game for her and the other's characterization "resets", but there ARE moments where her more caring personality shines through where she's more concerned about Froggy and Chocola (mostly being in the in-game dialogue and cinematics). But Heroes was definitely the start of the downward spiral as far as the characterizations leading up to now. Granted, Heroes isn't the end all be all to point at for everything going wrong, it was sadly a pile of straws that kept getting added to for each entry, honestly it could be argued a lot of the splits in the fandom can be traced back to the classic era, not only in outside Sonic satellite media, but I would argue even in the games themselves, cause even in different ports and such to the games, there were alternate depictions and stories used, but weirdly sometimes it would just be the exact same story but with a different backdrop. Also I would like to point out, while the main games had her more crazy personality take a respite post-Heroes, it sadly didn't go away fully, it was still present in Sonic Rush. And the "memory of a goldfish" thing, I think that's more a side effect to the fact that, like most of the time, it's a web of factors rather than just one: - They always target kids so they try to have the characters be "understandable" (aka one note) - The writers had no clue what to do with her because they went off a single wiki article (and probably short sticky notes from the Sega higher ups) - Their focus on gameplay experimentation from Heroes onwards above everything else so they don't reach a stagnant "make the same game all the time" (which is ironic when you consider they pretty much went to a extreme opposite because the team hasn't been really allowed to make anything else BESIDES Sonic so they're creatively bankrupt) - They're still reeling and recovering from the damage '06 had on the series because no one will f@#$ing shut up about how big of a stink that game made and any time the newest game has a fumble, journalists will be quick to site '06 &/or retroactively blame older games for being bad because the newest one is - Also still reeling from the business choices they made from the 90's into the 2000's where they basically made every subsidiary/team under the company basically let them be their own bosses which contributed to them leaving the console market when they did because they refused to believe the Dreamcast was failing and was stuck in an "Arcade" mindset - They have a constant change in staff at Sonic Team besides Iizuka with no real legacy staff sticking around long term for more than 2 games - Certain influential persons swaying the average fan's opinions to expect any and all Sonic games to just be flat out garbage while for a bit, they didn't experience any repercussions (one that comes to mind is Arin Hanson from Game Grumps, constantly ragging on Sonic, calling the games garbage (while intentionally trying to break the game to further his point) while also calling himself a "fan" and, for a bit, getting goodies from Sega (like having cupcakes sent to them, meeting Jenskai Tunoei, getting a special "thank you" section in Mania despite not even finishing the game for the channel (stopped at Press Garden Act 2) because the game was too good to argue anything against or use to point and go "see? the game's $#!+") but really the only thing he likes is Sonic's design and attitude and hates everything else) Also as far as the series narrative, I ain't counting the Meta Era as over yet, while there is enough evidence to support it being over, even going so far as to mention that Frontiers' Sonic is like a Sonic that experienced every if not most of the past games, there's just as much to point that we may be heading into a new version (im pre-calling it as "Neo Meta") if some rumors are anything to go by regarding Frontiers. There's AI, pixel aesthetics in some of the powers being shown, weirdly designed enemies that feel like ANOTHER new art style dropped into the world of Sonic on top of the practically bazillion one's we have already (see my previous comment of "Sonic Team feels creatively bankrupt because they make Sonic games and ONLY Sonic games", honestly feeling like Fleetway's comic where it felt more like the artists were using the Sonic comic as a "please hire me" resume with making things that look quite out of place for Sonic's aesthetic, resulting in a sort of clashing art style), the "special stages" being labeled as "Cyberspace", a rumor going around from one person saying the plot is basically the stupid "Sonic leaves his game world and enters the real world" bull$#!+. There is a weird fixation on "Sonic in the real world" that I just loathe at this point. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind realistic textures and such, but the emphasis on "Sonic lives on Earth" just feels wrong. Everything in the games has shown to be fantastical in some way, and I'm just having a hard time believing it's basically just Earth, because you know, we have tiny animals that are all the same size, random rings, and loop-the-loops as natural formations and occurrences on our planet.
In Sonic Heroes, I believe if she's the final member of Team Rose left during Team Sonic's battle with them, she'll say something along the lines of "Give back Chocola and Froggy or else" So there is still dialogue there that isn't specifically about wanting to marry Sonic, which, like it was in Adventure 2, *was* probably supposed to be a joke, but the delivery wasn't great Her scenes when Eggman is the boss fight are fine, im pretty sure she barely even mentioned Sonic in any of them, her characterization during the opening to Hang Castle was great (where she tried to cheer the others up), and I'm pretty sure Rail Canyon and Egg Fleet's openings didn't mention Sonic either I really do think people overblow one or two lines as a way of saying ALL she wanted to do in Heroes was chase Sonic, when the majority of her dialogue actually centered around wanting to get Chocola and Froggy back, and being the support for Cream and Big. The ACTUAL bad thing they did with her character in Heroes was, one ambient dialogue line she has (possibly after encountering or beating robots) was "robot freaks are so disgusting!" and like, THAT is what goes against her character Edit: I decided to watch a playthrough on 2x speed and skipping a ton just to make sure, lol -- The only times Sonic is even mentioned in Team Rose's story is the opening (because of the newspaper showing a Sonic silhouette kidnapping Chocola Froggy) and ending (where he's physically present), during the opening to Grand Metropolis (her "Sonic Sense"), Team Sonic fight, Casino Park (both for obvious reasons), Egg Albatros (offhand, just saying Sonic will be "head over heels for her instead" if she beats him, which is kind of what she says at the end of her story in Adventure 1)(the followup to Egg Albatros doesn't mention him, and she's more driven to find Chocola and Froggy than anything), and Egg Emperor The opening scene to Hang Castle had great characterization as I said, she gives Cream and Big a pep talk, and the opening to Egg Fleet was pretty good. So thats a total of 5 mentions (outside of the opening and ending) of the 14 action stages and 7 bosses
Yeah, when she wasn’t obsessing she was fine! Like I said. But the line about giving Froggy and Chocola back? That’s a weird one too because it’s a disconnect from her character. Amy doesn’t doubt Sonic. Ever. And while I appreciate you finding some strengths for her in Heroes, for me, it just doesn’t cancel out the bad.
Who is an idea about how to highlight and develop and feature the female sonic characters. What his team Rose was comprised of Amy, cream, and blaze, blaze is the power type. I think this trio would be much more interesting than big. Big doesn’t have much of a personality, and he doesn’t have any unique relationship or dynamic with Amy or cream at all. Please on the other hand, would be a stoic older sister. Team Rose needs more varied dynamics, and having a serious stoic character like blaze would be perfect, this would allow Amy’s personality to shine. Because she would give cheer to blaze and optimism. Cream is sweet and can’t do this role to some degree, but in a serious situation, I can imagine Kream becoming scared, and upset, blaze becoming silent serious, or angry, and it would be Amy, the leader who would balance these personas : who would encourage cream, and gentle blazes stoicism. They literally just put Big with Amy and Cream because they needed a power type, and Big was a left over character from a previous game
Here’s a crazy idea about Amy and Sonic. What if it was flipped around? So, Sonic is the one with a crush on Amy , and she’s not particularly interested. This would create a more sympathetic dynamic where Sonic is on the Backfoot, trying to impress her. Additionally, maybe Amy’s crush can be on someone else such as shadow, which will eternally put Sonic and shadow in competition.

I hope Sonic Frontiers will make Amy shine.
I like the Sonic Boom version of her as well.
I wonder if she'll appear in the 3rd Sonic movie?
Something I would also like to point out is that Sega should explore more of Amy's mystical and magical side, it's a shame that Sega hasn't explored Amy's potential.
I would love for them to explore more of that. I’m curious on how Amy learned to use tarot cards. Like, did she teach herself of did someone actually teaches her?
@@zoeanimations2186 I like to believe she stumbled upon a tarot reader by accident and wanted to learn out of curiosity.
well least they knowledge it
Well then you would like Sonic Frontier's Final Horizon update. :)
You got it all wrong.
Sonic comically does like Amy tho. He was even on his way to a date with her before the start of black knight.
Shut up
yea, but im honestly not digging the whole sonamy thing. while i like nimue, id rather sonic and amy be friends.
it would destroy the whole purpose why they weren’t together, because sonic seemed too ‘cool’ to have a gf
I really wonder how Amy’s development will be handled in Movie 3, assuming she’s introduced there along with Shadow
You can tell by the voice lines that NOONE in the situation is taking fight seriously
Alsso,Plus amy asking sonic to marry her is just a childlike way on saying she loves him without saying I love you
I loved her moment with Shadow in the ARK
Me too, I'll never not get teary-eyed at that moment.🥲
Honestly I would love to see an Amy spinoff with her own rival👀👀👀
Couldn’t agree more!
and with cream as her tails lol
Eye of three,sonic.exe.

She alrehas her OWN game,it's a ripoff of 8(A)cards
Rusty Rose as her Rival! Please!!!!
Agreed. I did mention the Pontaff issue too. They destroyed so many great characters.
One small scene that I will always make love Amy actually comes from Sonic Riders 😅
Eggman steals the Key to Babylon Garden out of Jet's hands in front of everyone and she's the first to jump to action. Running after Eggman to save the day, not Sonic or Jet... Amy is the only one who goes for it! (It gets her in trouble afterwards but still...)
I hope Amy is better in frontiers, and I love how she is portrayed in sonic origins.
ian flynn rly does her and every other character justice in the IDW comics. i think she'll be fine
@@thestarryeyedobserver I hope so. But unfortunately we are stuck with her 2010s voice…..
@@awesomeocelot7475 Delete that.

AWWWW TY SONIC
I'm sure you loved Amy in Frontiers, this game gave her the best traits!
Well done you have a brain unlike the fandom
@@skeetermagee2487You're right, any haters don't deserve to hate.
Amy is sooooooo beautiful and a stronger person like fr❤🫶🏻
Honestly I love the adventure game’s portrayal of Amy. But I also like her power and anger in Sonic X as it shows people not to mess with her so I’d say combine the two.
I hope Amy is a great character again like in Adventure. Probably she’ll be a great help from what we’re aware that Sonic lost his memories and if he gets her back, perhaps she’ll help him regain it little by little, and with Sage, maybe she’ll find a way to look for the good within her like she did with Shadow. That’s what I hope for, but we don’t know for sure
Amy and Cream Adventures, when?
Dunno?
Maybe after Frontiers if the epilogue is anything to go by.
If we ever get her in any sonic sequels, I hope they do her justice. Nuff said. ✌
I'm hopeful but at the same time worried as he is one of those people who describes the character wrong.
Amy in Sonic CD/Mania Adventures/Origins: Timid, yet earnest
Amy in Sonic Adventure through to Sonic '06: Delusional ''Romantic''
Amy in Sonic X: Absolute psycho who ought to be locked up
Amy in Sonic Unleashed through to Sonic Generations: Well-meaning sweetheart
Amy in Sonic Lost World through to Team Sonic Racing: Generic girl archetype
Amy in Sonic Boom TV Series: Mostly airy-fairy, but with a sassy, no-nonsense warrior side
Amy in Sonic Archie/IDW Comics: About as good as she's ever going to get
Amy rose in unleashed is my favourite
Fleetway amy: Crossbow
I think it would be hilarious for her aggressive behavior from Heroes and Generations to be a “past me was cringe” thing for her that she doesn’t like hearing brought up. Canonizing it as just a phase she thankfully grew out of
Hopefully that can be the case and show that she can be accountable and show she has accountability almost to admit to her cringe self

Let her use her Tarot Cards and invisibility powers cowards
Have sonic make a cameo in a post credit scene asking where she had been, him tails and knuckles were bored.
There are three things I want in Sonic 3
Shadow
Amy
Rouge
Just give me those three characters and we’ll be fine
I find it cool how she had to traine to get strong as showed in sonic battle
Great video! I always wondered if the Teri cards do nothing, what if she is the magic part. This was in Al’s how to fix video.
24:10
Hawkeye: Don’t do that, Don’t give me hope
A shame Amy never got a heroic start like Coco Bandicoot who was hacking into Cortex's plans in the 2nd Crash game and kicking butt in the 3rd game with even a boss fight.
Not every character needs a heroic start.
I’d especially love for you to cover how in sonic X knuckles is the only one besides Tails and Chris able to repair the blue typhoon.
my favorite female Sonic character aside from Rouge actually.
Maybe Amy Rose will be in the next Sonic Movie. 🎥
Amy is cute and beautiful.💚💚💙💚💚💚💚💚💚💜💜💜💜
Amy deserves more respect. She’s a great character when done correctly.
You should try reading the idw sonic comics. Ian Flynn has written the characters really well and you might enjoy the comics
Hope the sonic movie does her character justice (if she make it into the third movie🥲🙏)
I'm just hoping that Amy will be in the third live-action Sonic movie and that the writers of such will actually give her a character worth a damn.

I feel like Sonic X is one of the best Amy depictions.
5:58 wait, she’s TWELVE???
I just realized I marked the wrong time it was actually 19:29
Amy's an enjoyable character.
We need all the characters back with the moves from Sonic Advance 2
Honestly the “meta” era is the true dark era. Bad sonic and Amy VAs,writers that literally knew nothing about the franchise, ruined characters, etc.
Will be interesting to see how the change up in writing for Frontiers will work with the cast. I would have changed everything personally apart from Colleen and Mike.
@@AceCardGaming same actually. Coleen (and Kate Higgins) is like the only good voice actor for the era since Mike is a 4KIDS actor
@@awesomeocelot7475 Bad take.
I really hope Amy is in the new sonic movie coming out this year. I would love to see more character development in a good way and put her in a good light more.
I would loved to see Rouge help Amy to be better Amy could learn a lot from Rouge.
Rouge is a bad influence for multiple reasons.
Great video and good points on Amy’s character
I've always loved Amy, but like many supporting characters, she was reduced to ashes in the Meta-Era. Her kind and empathetic nature (when utilized) is unmatched and inspirational; which could positively impact anyone.
I'd say my favorite portrayal of Amy was from Golden Era to Dark Age (while Heroes and Battle did piss me off), she definitely shined in the moments where her focus was something other than Sonic. Amy also became an excellent character again via IDW comics, very reminiscent of her personality in the Adventure Era (which is great 😁)
I'd also love if she had her own game someday with Cream as her partner, and a rivalry with Rouge (since they've had one in Sonic Battle & Sonic X).
@@redballoon9007 I definitely agree, more playful banter 😊😊
Not according to the people who already bought Sonic Origins, instead of waiting for SEGA to release a physical version, with Amy and Metal Sonic playable.
If you want to blame anyone for Amy's inconsistent characterization, blame Sega of America. Also, I'm very surprised that nothing about Amy in Free Riders was mentioned. True, this was a spin off game, but this depiction is literally the embodiment of how badly she's been flanderized.
Heavily that was not Amy for all I know! That was a fake copy
Hold on what!?
Where did you get that form I wanna see!
YES I AM IMPORTENT
I feel like it would have been much better if instead of making the characters that have gone though lots of development regress to their original state, they could instead become different characters based on how they were at the end of their particular ark.
Oh wait that's extremely obvious why didn't they do that
For as bad as Sonic Boom (the game series) was, her boom counterpart set her back on track.
I do hope we get More Depth for Amy in The Upcoming Sonic Cartoon and The Sonic Cinematic Universe
Cool video.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
You're welcome.
@@AceCardGaming
Just because its a spin off doesn't mean that it isn't canon.
"
All Boom Amy was about was "we must all get together and talk about our feelings" which while Amy did look at helping people, she was never one to suggest group therapy sessions every two minutes.
@@AceCardGaming in the marriage proposal in Japanese is more played off as a joke, with Amy being "eh, it was worth a shout." Rather than it being "its marriage or bust, my darling!"
Sonic: Wha--Amy...?
Also, I have a fair few of the Japanese cutscenes with accurate subtitles - which Windii did before her channel went down - on my channel - shameless channel plug -
with all the games from 1998-2009 along with a few Meta Era ones in Lost World, Boom: Rise of Lyric and Team Sonic Racing.
@@AceCardGaming I did see with the Japanese V-Tuber videos there was a recent subtitled clip of her talking to Tails about Sonic saying
"it's fine! Besides, I don't want to be a bother to Sonic. I wanna watch him running carefree all around the world. I'll just catch up with if I have to!"
Which certainly sounds a lot truer to Amy than whatever crap the English twitter takeover would write for her. Especially when you consider that they have Shadow saying about how he eats raw coffee beans for no other reason than the random lols. And this is exactly why I strongly dislike modern English Sonic, it's like it's got an abject fear of self respect and not making everything a joke because "oh no, Sonic 06!"

@@antrox2346 Oh definitely, her characterization is inconsistent!
@@vzszz If we talk about the games, yes, but She's not the only one. Knuckles, Tails, Shadow and others characters are inconsistents too.
Amy has been brought back to her Adventure 1 and 2 level peak.
The fight with Team Sonic could actually have been made a plausible misunderstanding with some rewriting, too, giving a bit of an internal conflict between her known interest (who is also a friend of hers by this point) and her current goal (that being the missing friends which were implied to be kidnapped by Sonic; this way you could also make the other teammates chime in, because as is, Tails/Knuckles/Cream/Big are just standing there awkwardly in the back, which is especially OoC for Tails [the guy who's probably smart enough to figure out the misunderstanding] and Cream [who cares for Chao a lot, so she'd probably be the first one asking why mister Sonic would need to take Chocola away, which would confuse Sonic and unintentionally only make the misunderstanding worse])
You'd really only need to get rid of those chase scenes near the end, or write them out to be Amy thinking Sonic is running into more adventure, which she's interested in because she's been bored at the start and the whole game's levels were a fun rollercoaster that she probably doesn't want to stop yet (whereas Cream and Big have reason to stay behind now).
I think Amy's character is in good hands now so we don't have to worry.
I hope so...
I see why they are friends."
Sorry my ramble was long, but still a good video all around, and you should keep up the good work.
As a kid Amy was one of my favorite characters growing up, still is. 💀

tbh the only thing I disagree with here is that she's better in Boom or the IDW comics than she has been.
@@dragondelsur5156 I hate how some people call Amy Boom the "fixed" version of Amy.

Amy is one of those characters you understand and appreciate more once you get older, shame this fanbase can't do the same.
I'm a mixed about Amy sometimes I'm not even sure if she's fine as she is or needs to bring her more than what she was when her character is already destroyed.
I'm curious on how sonic bring Amy to her character.
ok but also mans can run at the speed of sound but can't outrun Amy when she chases him? hmmm 🧐
And the "memory of a goldfish" thing, I think that's more a side effect to the fact that, like most of the time, it's a web of factors rather than just one:
- They always target kids so they try to have the characters be "understandable" (aka one note)
- The writers had no clue what to do with her because they went off a single wiki article (and probably short sticky notes from the Sega higher ups)
- Their focus on gameplay experimentation from Heroes onwards above everything else so they don't reach a stagnant "make the same game all the time" (which is ironic when you consider they pretty much went to a extreme opposite because the team hasn't been really allowed to make anything else BESIDES Sonic so they're creatively bankrupt)
- They're still reeling and recovering from the damage '06 had on the series because no one will f@#$ing shut up about how big of a stink that game made and any time the newest game has a fumble, journalists will be quick to site '06 &/or retroactively blame older games for being bad because the newest one is
- Also still reeling from the business choices they made from the 90's into the 2000's where they basically made every subsidiary/team under the company basically let them be their own bosses which contributed to them leaving the console market when they did because they refused to believe the Dreamcast was failing and was stuck in an "Arcade" mindset
- They have a constant change in staff at Sonic Team besides Iizuka with no real legacy staff sticking around long term for more than 2 games
- Certain influential persons swaying the average fan's opinions to expect any and all Sonic games to just be flat out garbage while for a bit, they didn't experience any repercussions (one that comes to mind is Arin Hanson from Game Grumps, constantly ragging on Sonic, calling the games garbage (while intentionally trying to break the game to further his point) while also calling himself a "fan" and, for a bit, getting goodies from Sega (like having cupcakes sent to them, meeting Jenskai Tunoei, getting a special "thank you" section in Mania despite not even finishing the game for the channel (stopped at Press Garden Act 2) because the game was too good to argue anything against or use to point and go "see? the game's $#!+") but really the only thing he likes is Sonic's design and attitude and hates everything else)
Also as far as the series narrative, I ain't counting the Meta Era as over yet, while there is enough evidence to support it being over, even going so far as to mention that Frontiers' Sonic is like a Sonic that experienced every if not most of the past games, there's just as much to point that we may be heading into a new version (im pre-calling it as "Neo Meta") if some rumors are anything to go by regarding Frontiers.
In Sonic Heroes, I believe if she's the final member of Team Rose left during Team Sonic's battle with them, she'll say something along the lines of "Give back Chocola and Froggy or else"
So there is still dialogue there that isn't specifically about wanting to marry Sonic, which, like it was in Adventure 2, *was* probably supposed to be a joke, but the delivery wasn't great
Her scenes when Eggman is the boss fight are fine, im pretty sure she barely even mentioned Sonic in any of them, her characterization during the opening to Hang Castle was great (where she tried to cheer the others up), and I'm pretty sure Rail Canyon and Egg Fleet's openings didn't mention Sonic either
I really do think people overblow one or two lines as a way of saying ALL she wanted to do in Heroes was chase Sonic, when the majority of her dialogue actually centered around wanting to get Chocola and Froggy back, and being the support for Cream and Big.
The ACTUAL bad thing they did with her character in Heroes was, one ambient dialogue line she has (possibly after encountering or beating robots) was "robot freaks are so disgusting!" and like, THAT is what goes against her character
Edit: I decided to watch a playthrough on 2x speed and skipping a ton just to make sure, lol

The only times Sonic is even mentioned in Team Rose's story is the opening (because of the newspaper showing a Sonic silhouette kidnapping Chocola Froggy) and ending (where he's physically present), during the opening to Grand Metropolis (her "Sonic Sense"), Team Sonic fight, Casino Park (both for obvious reasons), Egg Albatros (offhand, just saying Sonic will be "head over heels for her instead" if she beats him, which is kind of what she says at the end of her story in Adventure 1)(the followup to Egg Albatros doesn't mention him, and she's more driven to find Chocola and Froggy than anything), and Egg Emperor
The opening scene to Hang Castle had great characterization as I said, she gives Cream and Big a pep talk, and the opening to Egg Fleet was pretty good.
That's just repeating a Sakura and Sakuke, and this subversion makes zero sense.
Prime is kind of working that angle
@@dragondelsur5156 no, flipping it around would literally be the reverse of Sakura and Sasuke.
I Wanna See Amy Rose in the Third Sonic Movie!
