Thanks for doing this update! I actually really like how you mentioned your financial plan for the next tank. Financial literacy is not something that is talked about enough in our hobby...
It sucks to see such a nice tank go. That type of success does not come easy. Looking forward to seeing what the future brings. Would love to see the small tank and anything that pops up with it.
Seeing that it hasn't bothered me as much as I thought means I am probably ready for the downgrade. Its not easy maintaining a big tank without a lot of room. It would be so much easier if I had a dedicated water mixing station (not buckets and trashcans in the bathrooms once a week) and easy access storage. I'm looking forward to designing something a little more ergonomic and thought-out.
Yeah, when my wife and I make a decision, we act on it pretty quickly. So it was not a long drawn out thing. Thankfully, I kept some stuff I liked and will definitely rebuild a much better system. A big tank in a condo is not easy!
I took a little over a year off after moving states. It was nice taking a break from the hobby. Eventually I was reinspired and now I’m back. Good luck!
I took a break from 2013-2014 (~18 months) so don't think I have it in me to take a total break, but I am looking forward to a little more freedom away from home or maintaining an SPS system for sure!
It sucks but u did the right choice I did the same thing went from a 3000sf house with a water mixing station and tanks in the basement to a 1000sf apartment with 2 toddlers till my new house get built.Made everything less stressful and it's giving me time To plan out my new system/fish room exactly how i won't it
Yeah, I've moved big tanks and it sucks. There's more important things in life as this is a just a hobby for now, but I am a firm believer that hobbies shouldn't be stressful so this seems like the best way to avoid the most stress on me.
I’ve done exactly the same thing after moving the first time around it was the most hardest thing I’ve ever done. Trust me I understand small tank maybe. But so much easier starting fresh 👍🏼
the biggest thing with me was the live rock. I wanted to keep more of it, but ended up with a decent amount to seed the future rock. Corals are easy, but getting quality live rock without aptasia seems impossible these days.
@ oh yeah forget that s@T other bull I swear I’m old school love live rock never again for expensive colored dry rock I swear I designed a nice aquascape but took forever and worst stuff in cycle a tank especially from scratch. It’s worth to me like gold
Glad you were able to keep a small tank for the interim. Question - what schedule did you run on your Stratons? I have them too and I’m curious about what your schedule consisted of, especially with the PAR you said you were getting.
@@NBurgReef Oh ok, so about AB+ settings. On video they looked more white, was that just a filter or did you turn up the whites for the video? I was contemplating turning up the white, but after seeing your growth I guess I'm good where I'm at. 75% total intensity? So was your PAR about like 300 9" down at the top of your rocks?
@ yeah more or less 250-350 on the rocks. I think it was pretty true to colors in the vid but I do turn up the white for vids to make them less blue on the camera. Peak white was around 40-50% which is still pretty white by today’s standard. Anything more and it’s quite yellow.
I'm getting back into hobby and am having trouble deciding between IM 170 and IM 200 gallon tank. When you had the 170, did u ever wish u got the 200G?
The extra foot would have been nice but it didn’t fit my space. That being said, I have seen the 200… it’s the same as the 170 other than being a foot longer.
Doesn’t matter to me what name coral have, if I’ve grown it from nub to colony then it’s important to me cause I actually learned something along the way. It’s about growth and knowledge, at least for me, so I keep developing as a reefer. Looking forward to the new 7-8 footer…
True, I have a pretty standard frogspawn that's one of my favorites just because I have had it for at least 15 years. Lol and I am sure I will try and get something in that range, but not overly big. always liked the idea of several tanks vs one mega tank.
If someone who has better setup than me has the common sense to let go 🤣 I should do the same so I can move out from my apartment asap and start something new that I’ll enjoy better
Weirdly, I have been pretty okay with it being gone. I guess I have a stoic nature of accepting the past is done and focus on the future so i'm looking forward to doing some new things with the hobby.
The addiction is real. Without psychiatric treatment you won’t make it past 6 months. Looking forward to your new 500 gallon SPS dominated tank soon! 😂
I can't wait to see your next reef tank!
looking forward to your next big thing and I can't wait
Thanks! Already planning it in my head but I have a long way to go.
Best of luck with everything. Looking forward to the next phase.
Thanks!

@@ap6826 usually I $VTI and chill, but wanted a different ticker for just the reef stuff to keep it separate

Sad to see the IM tank going down looking forward to the future when the time comes!
Wow! One day it's there for us, the next time you hit us with this. Lol good luck my friend.

@NBurgReef yeah I bet. I appreciate the ride we had. Good luck my friend.

Glad you kept the ruby red xenia, one of my favorite corals and such a slow grower
Its been pretty fast for me, but its super red. Maybe now that its out of the window and sunlight, it'll grow slower which I am fine with.

Hey congratulations on being a successful reefer! Yeah big tanks gotta go. I love giving coral away.
Thanks! Its fun interacting with other reefers but I had a lot to get rid of so very busy.

The blues were 100%, whites around 35-45%, violet and UV ~50%, cyan 10%, red off. Overall intensity around 75%

Bummer to see you go for now. Looking forward to new content in the future!
Just the big tanks are going I will still have some content coming, probably more often than the 3 videos I posted in the last 4 or 5 months.

Sorry to see you downgrade. What size were those Stratons?
They're the Gen 1 stratons which were only 1 size: 18.5" x 18.5"
@NBurgReef thanks for getting back to me. Have a great New Year.

@ running a reef tank is very exciting but troublesome and stressful some time lol it doesn’t hurt to take a break like you said
The addiction is real. Without psychiatric treatment you won’t make it past 6 months. Looking forward to your new 500 gallon SPS dominated tank soon! 😂
Ha! I don't think I will ever go that big. I'd rather have 2 250s than one 500 gallon.. but I guess never say never.
