The record label dropped them.....which still bothers me. They offered the contract as a prize in *an A CAPELLA* contest! What kind of band did they think would win?!?!?

It was all fluff for ratings. I think That's a big part why they cancelled the show after season 3 or 4. Then the success of PTX, Glee, pitch perfect plus countless petitions got the sing off back on the air for 2 more seasons after PTX won

There had been a change in the management at Epic Records, the division of Sony that was supposed to do the record contract for the winners of the show. That new management didn't think a cappella could be commercially viable, so they decided to not fulfill the contract and take PTX on. I'm pretty sure they got some extra money out of the deal for the cancellation. Scott has said later that although it was very discouraging for them, in the long run it was probably for the best, because the type of contract that comes with these shows is very lopsided in favor of the company. Not very good terms for the artists. And it allowed them to have control of their music from the very beginning. They worked incredibly hard with putting things up on RUclips and performing anywhere and everywhere that they could. They did get help from Madison Gate records (a small division of Sony that mainly put out film scores) to put out their first couple EP's. Once Daft Punk won the Grammy, Sony came back and offered to sign them with RCA. By this time they had enough success that they could negotiate a much more favorable contract. So, being dropped is part of the history of PTX, but in the long run was probably to their advantage.

There is also their results show and the performance they did at the finale of Season 4 Sing Off (I Need Your Love). Don’t forget those! Yep, and they continued to raise their own bar and improve and impress their audiences even 13 years down the road. The record label dropped them because (someone correct me if I’m wrong) they didn’t think an a cappella group would actually be a lucrative contract for the label. PTX just forged ahead on their own by promoting themselves on a YT channel. Thank goodness they didn’t get discouraged and give up!

Always love it when Avi breaks out the air bass. Note the competitor in the balcony with his head in his hands. Also, one of my favorite judge remarks: It's aite.

This is one of my favorite Pentatonix performances. Avi's air bass guitar gets me every time, along with Mitch's Waa Waa beginning. Scotts vocal runs were also amazing. This song was flawless to me.

Scott's amazing, he has such soul! He was always good, but this is where he evolved😊 He's totally the king of riffs and runs! This was the performance which made them the frontrunners for the win and THE group for others to beat. Absolutely amazing!💙

Don't forget to do the appearance by ptx in the next season where they come back to perform. It was sweet vindication from the label dropping them, plus it's the first time the judges hear Avi sing! Cheers 😊

And this is #3 on my Top Five favorite Sing-Off competition performance list. I'm not a big fan of the song itself--or even of Marvin Gaye--but this is the one that broke through my Avi obsession to finally wake me up to what an incredible vocalist Scott had become. HIs emotional performance, backed up by the smoothest of R&B bands, was perfectly reflected in the judges' reactions (Shawn's leap to his feet in the middle of the song, Sara's slap on the table as she got up at the end). This was extraordinary, and I'll bet it extinguished any lingering hopes that the other bands may have been clinging to. Scott's final two riffs, especially the last, slow one, sure didn't sound like they came from any green teenager. This was a professional performance. Saeed, I loved your borderline incoherent reaction! Very appropriate.

There are 2 performances on the finale show after 12. Those didn’t count since voting was closed. They aren’t my favorites. And I think you know they came back in season 4 finale to perform which is a must see.
The record company dropped them 1 week after they moved to LA. They decided to keep trying and started their RUclips channel. After some went viral, the record company picked them back up in one of their small companies. I believe after Daft Punk they were moved to one of the major companies. Pentaholics correct me if I got that wrong.

Great reaction! The first 12 performances were used by the judges to decide who won, but on the last night, when they named the winner, PTX did two more performances. You'll see them as #13 WIthout You, which I loved, and #14 Una Noche, which they performed with Nick Lachey, who was in the boy band 98 Degrees in the 90's. I hope you do reactions to both. See you in the next one.

As others in the comments have already mentioned, PTX got dropped by the music label after winning the show in December 2011. However, let me add some context. As was the case with the previous two seasons, as winners, PTX received a cash prize and a recording contract from Epic Records (a subsidiary of Sony Music). Unfortunately, some time during 2011, Epic got a new CEO, L.A. Reid. Reid was previously CEO of Arista Records and Island Def Jam Music Group, so he had a lot of clout in the industry. More casual music fans might remember him more for his stint as a judge on the U.S. version of The X Factor. Reid didn't think an a cappella group could be commercially successful. He wanted Pentatonix to add instruments to become a more typical singing group but they refused to do so. As a result, PTX got dropped by Epic and ended up signing a distribution deal with Madison Gate Records, a label under Sony Pictures that specializes in soundtrack music.
Even without major label support, PTX decided to pursue their dreams of a music career by recording themselves with an iPad, singing covers. They uploaded their first video, a cover of Moves Like Jagger, to RUclips on Jan 10/2012 and steadily built up their fan base over the next 6 months from the initial core group of supporters they got while on The Sing-Off. They released their first EP in June 2012 and had their first national tour in the fall of the same year. They also decided to put out an EP of Christmas songs in Nov 2012 and this turned out to be one of their best decisions as they've become closely identified with holiday music ever since.
The "Evolution of Music" medley video was posted in April 2013 and it quickly went viral, garnering PTX even more new fans. This was their first Evolution Of video but PTX has since made similar videos for Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Rihanna and Ariana Grande.
As their popularity soared, leading to more EPs and tours, RCA Records (the flagship label of Sony Music) sought them out to sign them in 2014. That year, PTX released their first full length album of Christmas songs in October. This album (That's Christmas To Me) reached #2 on the Billboard 200, topped the Holiday Album chart and was the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962. It was certified platinum in the U.S. by year's end and eventually achieved 2X platinum. It was the 4th best-selling album of 2014 in the U.S., surpassed only by Taylor Swift's 1989, the Frozen movie soundtrack, and Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour.
As radio personality Paul Harvey used to say, "And now you know the rest of the story." ;1

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 6 дней назад +1

The Sony contract that was part of the win was withdrawn within a few weeks (after all 5 of them had moved to LA), the record company having decided that a cappella was never going to get anywhere in the market. So PTX turned to RUclips to market themselves, making their own videos in their apartments. Of course, once that started to take off big time, The record company magically changed its mind and signed them. The rest, as they say, is history.

Very unpopular opinion here but, I really didn't like it ..... SORRY!!
I absolutely adore Marvin Gaye and this track (from the Whats Going On album) just so happens to be one of my favourites. Therefore, NOBODY was/is ever going to impress me and my biased thoughts.
