Omg! Thank you soooooo much! I typically shy away from Apple products but I recently inherited a MacBook Pro and had the hardest time trying to figure out how to use my USB flash drive on it. I decided to go to RUclips university, typed in "how to use a flash drive on Mac" and a video on your channel popped up. After watching the video this so easy to do, a no brainer! Thanks!🙏🏾
Thank you for the video. I have to admit I know nothing about USB flash drives but I want to get one for my Mac Air and begin to use it properly. Your explanation made me feel much more comfortable how to use. I had no idea about finder and checking the box to enable external disks.
Oh mine! U're a saver.👍🏿 No one could explain it like u did esp what to do when the drive doesn't install or show up on ur screen. Didn't know I had to go to d finder and preferences to select the hard disk and external disk.🤦🏾♀️I see it now. Thank you very much!🙂🙌🏿
Thank you Trisha. Simple and easy to understand tips. My USB drive heats up when I connect it to my MacBook air M1. why is that? will it affect my USB drive and what can i do to address it?
I just lol when I see that part of the video where you drag it to the trash can and cringe lol.. Thats why I love these videos. Keep up the great work @Trisha Hershberger
This was a great video. Do you have one that tells me how to remove the thumb drive from the adapter? I need to use the thumb drive on a different computer that has full-sized USB ports.
thank you for this info- I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE WEARING, AS WELL! Love that- is it a top or dress? Who makes it? you look like a superhero 🙂
Hi, I am a bit too late to comment on this presentation but only today I got a chance to view it. It was Excellent. I have question and hopefully I shall be getting a response from your goodself. I am using a USB-C based flash drive on my Macbook Retina 12inch (Early 2015 Model A5134) connecting it to the USB-C port and its working fine. However, when I want to use a flash drive with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 (Old model with Blue color) flash drive through a USB 3.0 to USB-C type multi port Hub with Power Delivery then the flash drive is not detected and does not seem to be mounted. Can you please advise what should I do? Many thanks for your anticipated kind response in case this message reaches you.
The limitations may be due to the type of adapters you are using to connect the USB Type-A drives, whether 2.0 or 3.0. You may want to check with the manufactures of said adapters to see if they are fully compatible with the MAC environment, for example we have the Nucleum hub that should work with your legacy USB drives. Hi thanks for the tips and tricks for using USB drive on my MacBook Air. It greatly helps in transferring and storing files safely. Shirish Balekundri, Wafer FAB Process Specialist.
We actually have some USB sticks that are dual USB-A and USB-C for exactly this reason! The DT MicroDuo 3C and the DT Duo might be just the solution he is looking for.
Hey there sorry to hear you are having issues with your USB, have you tried it in another device to see if it still being recognized? If it is one of ours please reach out to our Tech Support here to help you troubleshoot: kings.tn/3uc6CjX
Hello! I’m currently in the process of exporting photos from my computer onto the flash drive. I’m wondering does closing the laptop (not restarting it or shutting down) stop the exporting process? Thank you 😊
It may cause an interruption in the processes because your computer may be put in sleep mode. Check with your specific model on the Apple site to be certain.
I can open my external drive on my MacBook Air, but can not see a specific (and much needed file), but can see it on my laptop. What am I doing wrong? Why is the file not showing up?
OK Trish you show how to safely eject your USB but after ejecting, when reconnecting the USB, the MAC refuses to recognise it. It will recognise it again if you restart the MAC but this is a long process and indicates there is a software problem in the MAC which is created by the eject process and then does not allow reconnect.
Hello there, I have a 2TB USB and I have changed the settings to MS-DOS Fat32 so I can play movies on my TV, however, the drive only takes a certain amount and then other folders I put across appear empty and no files can be shown or seen (but space is taken up??) I never have issues with other smaller size USB's at this setting. I got the larger size to lessen the amount of times I have to erase the smaller sizes. Can you offer any advice on how to fix this issue please. I have searched everywhere on youtube and I have come up blank. By the way, this is for a mac computer. Many Thanks
Hey there it could be a limitation our TV itself. Have you tried it on a separate TV or media unit to see if the issue persists? If it is one of our USB Flash drives, please visit our website where we can help you troubleshoot: kings.tn/3Fjo2By
I bought a MacBook Air M1 two days ago, I tried to use an external drive, when connected, not all files are showing. Just a few. I know the files are there because when connected to a PC, the files show up just fine and with Disk Utility it shows the space is used. However can't see the files. Even some folders are empty, but in a PC the files in those folders show normally. I used the cmd + shift + period but didn't work at all. Help!?!
I'm an author and have a novel on my desktop. I want it on a flash drive and am terrified I'll do something wrong. I'm on a Mac book pro. I also have to send the novel to my editor and not sure how to do that either. CJ Knapp
Hi Trisha, thank you for your very interesting video. I have just subscribed to your channel and I wanted to ask for your advice on using a USB cable Types???? I have no idea about the different types on the market. But I just wanted to know what type of USB cable with an HDMI adaptor would need in order to watch movies from my Mac Catalina to a normal TV. On my old Mac OS X I just used to use HDMI to HDMI but Apple has now removed the HDMI port on the Catalina. Could you please advice me. Thanks a lot Trisha. have a great day. John E
I’m able to save my students’s progress reports on my USB but when I try to print them at the school’s printer the progress reports will not show.😢 But if I save my progress reports on a USB from my old Samsung laptop the progress reports show automatically once I insert the USB into the printer. Any suggestions?
There might be a limitation on the files or the source you are saving it from which is preventing them from being printed. You may want to check with your IT Dept to see if they can assist you with this as well.
In finder preferences, turn on devices, disks, etc. so that they show up on your desktop. You can then drop the selected files into the folder to save them.
So, I have a Zip drive that had pictures saved to it from a windows computer in the past that had to be password locked. None of those pictures are showing up when I open the drive in my Mac now and it won't let me save anything on the drive from my Mac currently. How do I re-format the drive so it'll work on Mac AND or windows when viewing files, and without deleting the old pictures? Please help!!!
Hey there, do you still have the previous system you used it on? As long as you have access to your drive you should be able to do a quick format after successfully unlocking it. If it is one of our drives, please contact us here to better assist you: kings.tn/3G4v3Te
It can be located on the front, back or side of your system. Check to make sure that it's a USB drive slot before inserting the USB drive. Check the user manual or with the manufacturer to confirm, inserting the drive in a different port can cause damage.
Hi there The USB does not show up under locations on second finder (bottom of page) and but it did at the tab on top of the page. So I cannot drag the document to any external locations /USB. can you please advise Thanks Sabina
