About this video: On January 6, 2024, I was in Boston attempting to see a train consisting of old MBTA equipment on an extra move to Billerica, MA via the Lowell Line. As I waited for this train to be assembled, I captured some of the morning passenger trains heading in and out of Boston’s North Station. Amtrak Downeaster train 692 is seen first in this video with heritage unit 145 as one of its three locomotives. Next are several commuter trains heading out of Boston for points such as Rockport, Lowell, and Fitchburg. After the passenger train traffic cleared up, the power for the special equipment move (MBTA F40PH-3C 1062) moved into position and connected to the consist at MBTA’s Boston Engine Terminal. I then chased this train along the New Hampshire Route Mainline (Lowell Line) to its destination of Billerica. The final clips in this video were shot at the Woburn station and feature the famed MBTA extra racing Amtrak Downeaster 693, as well as a tied down CSX L055 (BO-1) nearby. I only feature a few of the clips that I got of the rare MBTA extra move in this particular video - my full chase of the train can be viewed in my previous video ( • MBTA Hospital Train Mo... ).

Btw the first amtrack consist is actually pretty cool, cab control 90213, is a cabbage, it can be used for cab control(no power) and be used as storage for baggage, that's why there is no viewliner baggage car!

Very true. In the case of that specific train, that particular unit was having issues so they put an extra P42 on the front. Makes for a pretty cool look

What was 145 doing in Boston? Rare to see that heritage unit come down here.

One of my favorite spots. Have you ever been kicked out of there? I have not but I figure eventually I will be. I never do anything stupid, like go on the other side of the concrete. Edit: referring to the spot by BS&G at the start of the video. Although I'm at Anderson a lot too :D

Are there any plans that will speed up trains approaching or leaving North Station? It's a brutal speed as a passenger.

I imagine there will be in the future, but they’ve got a lot on their hands already, haha. Most of the slow speeds are a result of switches that were not built to handle high speeds

Probably won't happen until they commit to electrifying the CR
