I have now taken the plunge and started up a Patreon space here / greensideup This gives a little more Green Side Up content to those who wish to help, support or give back to me. It will be slightly different to the content here on my channel in that it will be an informal style with a warts and all approach, its me, but from a different angle.
If you are enjoying my content, you can help me by buying me a packet of seeds. ko-fi.com/greensideup

Every Monday night at 7pm I take part in a LIVE show on the Potty MOuth Garden Club here / @pottymouthgardenclub
Links to products I use, that I have bought and can recommend. If you click one of these links and buy the same thing as me, you pay EXACTLY the same as me, but I earn a small commission from Amazon. Amazon pays this, not you! We are talking pennies here not pounds and I use it more as a shop window,so you can see the product. I'm afraid I haven't had the chance to change my name yet as I only married Steve on Tuesday after 21 years together. I appreciate greatly all the lovely things you have to say about him, he was a lovely man, very special and I am missing him very much. You will have possibly worked out that he had cancer, this spread incredibly fast throughout his body, so much so they couldn't even risk giving him chemotherapy. I hope you will carry on rewatching his videos and pick up extra hints and tips that may have been missed. Once again thank you so much for your thoughts and comments they honestly help xxx Anne Randles
I'm so very sorry for your loss. As so many have said, and will say, what a gentleman Steve was. Absolutely loved his videos and the way he wanted to give every bit of knowledge and experience he had to others. After so long I will miss his updates, tips and humour but will continue to watch his videos and (hopefully) learn from the master. Thoughts are with you and all Steve's family and friends. xx
Steve was such an inspiration to me as a new gardener. He taught me so much. He was obviously a lovely gentle man. I'd like to send you my love and sincere sympathies. I'm glad you were able to get married but so sorry that events moved along so quickly. X
Sending my sincere condolences to you and Steve’s family from over here in Northumberland 🙏🏼❤🙏🏼
Steve was an absolute fountain of knowledge and he came across as such a down to earth and kind hearted soul 😇 he always had time to answer our questions and respond to comments, his dedication to teaching others was second to none.
I’ll definitely rewatch many of his videos as time goes by……he’ll be very sorely missed but definitely never forgotten given the amazing legacy he’s left behind 😢
Look after yourself and much love, K xx
My thoughts are with you and your family, he would fondly talk about you in his channel. Steve was an inspiration to a lot of people including myself, a gardener for many years. His knowledge will live on through his many subscribers and generations to come💔
Sending lots of love to you and your family - we will miss Steve’s video and his friendly face at the allotment - regards Carol and Donal Plot 32 The Nook

Having just heard the sad news of Steve’s death, and I wanted say once more how thankful I am for the knowledge he passed on throughout his videos. One of life’s Gentlemen, who will be missed by those he never knew. Many condolences to his wife and family, and to those who knew him in person. He will be sorely missed by all.

Rest in peace Steve. You will be sorely missed. Sending love to all who knew him. You haven’t just grown a garden, through your work you have grown gardeners too who in turn have grown their gardens. I shall be in my garden all day today thinking of you and using the knowledge that I learned from you. ❤

RIP Steve. So sad. Love to your family, friends and RUclips friends. You will be sorely missed ❤
RIP Steve...from non gardeners 18months ago, your videos inspired us to turn our whole garden into a veg plot...condolences to all your family and friends❤❤
RIP Steve. You have been a brilliant teacher and your videos will be missed!
It's been one of my favorite garden channels so when I learned about Steve's passing I started a new tradition to visit here once a week or so and find one of his videos from the archives and watch it.
There's so much garden knowledge to choose from there and I think he likes the idea that his work will continue to be used and appreciated.
Today I watched his video "New raised beds" from about a year ago. It was the fotage of him creating these very beds that he sits between in this last video. There was no talking, only songs played.
Towards the end the lyrics of the song caught my attention. "I'll be with you as long as you want me to be".
It felt as if Steve was communicating through this little synchronicity and saying something like "I like the idea of you returning here to watch my videos".
Speaking for myself Steve and I'm sure your whole community we will await your return, so, take all the time you need. We will be here on your return. Good luck and a speedy recovery.
Amen
Rest in peace Steve ❤ I've learnt so much from you and I will continue to watch your videos for many seasons to come. You are missed greatly, gentleman of gardening
Goodbye, Steve! Thanks for sharing your garden knowledge with us. Rest in peace, my friend.
Your health is the most important thing Steve. RUclips will still be around and so will your community.
RIP Steve - You have given me and countless others so much help and motivation - you will be missed.
RIP Steve. I thought you were the most generous of gardeners. A thoughtful, kind, considerate person. You shared your knowledge without hesitation and your down to earth approach was so obviously loved by your viewers. What a huge hole your passing will leave. We shall miss you x
Rest in peace Steve ❤🙏🏼❤ You’ve left us all with a wealth of knowledge and a what a wonderful legacy you leave behind.
My condolences to your wife Ann and all of your family and friends 🙏🏼 you will be very sadly missed and fondly remembered by all of the RUclips Community 😢
Really sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I have recently found his videos and learnt so much, and been so inspired by them. He will be missed by all us gardeners. 🌱
To Steve's wife...My heart breaks for you. Such a terrible loss. Steve will be missed.
I've just been watching one of Steve's videos about sowing sweet peas from Switzerland where I live. I always enjoy his videos, he was such a kind and genuine person and such knowledgeable gardener. When looking through the different vegetable growing channels I follow, I keep coming back to Steve's videos. He's left us such a wealth of informative and uplifting content. My thoughts & sympathy are with all those who had the privilege to be close to him. A sadly short life, but one which touched many people. I think of him when I sieve my potting compost.
Health always has to come first mate. as creators we feel obligated to produce videos for our supporters but we have to take that time to get well and recuperate. i know you have a great support system around you but if you ever need a ear to bend just holla.
RIP Steve. I've learned a lot from you over the years and I appreciate all the knowledge you've passed on.
Just learned of Steve’s death, man you changed how I garden and how I chose to live my life. Your out of pian now fly high my friend.
Merry Heavenly Christmas Steve, miss you loads, I keep watching your videos because you are such a lovely bloke and will be my mentor for always God bless Steve 💙
Rest in Peace Steve.

The lovely wave of goodbye from Steve at end of this video breaks my heart. Take care Steve, wherever you are now.
Just heard. Rest in peace. You were a legend of the youtube gardening team. What more can I say except;; thank you Steve from the bottom of my heart and condolences to your Wife.
RIP Steve, thank you for everything you have done, helped & supported on this channel. I will miss you so much ❤❤❤
RIP Steve. Sending love to all who knew him. We will all miss your wonderful garden knowledge x
I can’t believe, that final chuckle and the final wave at the end of the vlog would be your last Steve that we would see, an inspiration to all us gardeners that followed you. My thoughts are with your family and friends, you will be missed 💔
It was because of Steve that me and my grandad put up a polytunnel on the allotment. Was a huge inspiration to me especially because I am also a chef who is obsessed with the garden.
Rip Steve

RIP Steve, Thank you for all your advice. You will be missed
Rest in peace dear Steve, this is a very sad day without knowing you’re around. Much love to your Anne and family 💔💔💔
Discovered Steve during the lockdown and his expertise / personable manner encouraged me to invest in small greenhouse. I’ve never looked back but will miss his regular “chats”. Steve leaves a brilliant legacy. At least I have his videos as a reference and memory of a wonderful person. Sincere condolences to his family. Vincent,Dublin
So sad to hear the news.
A tender 58 spring chickens we are in our 50s don't hang up the boots yet the plot is more varied exercise than any gym, 1 hours sleep before midnight is worth 2 after midnight so they tell me take care
Checked into the video in the hope of reading positive news on Steve's health, shocked to learn of his passing.
He always came across as a gentle soul and was very generous as a teacher on this channel. I've learned so much from him. Hope the comments on here are some comfort to those who knew and loved him.

I came here after watching your older videos and inspiring me to email my council and ask where I was on the allotment list! I then saw your last post was months ago and got confused and have just read the comments to see you have sadly passed away. So sad and what great advice and videos you put up which really have inspired me. You will live on through the rest of our allotments 🤍
Only just found this channel and learnt so much from one video. Thought I could hear a Wirral accent and looked for more videos and seen this post. So sorry to hear of his passing.

A wonderful gardener ,with such helpful tips & hits .....will be so greatly missed R.I.P you were a true Star
RIP Steve. You will be hugely missed in our community.
So sorry to hear of Steve losing his life today. As a man of 58 myself I just can't quite take it in. I was learning so much from Steve, with all his experience. I will miss his layed back style and enthusiasm.
To be honest, I myself an experienced gardener have learned a great deal from Steve. I struggle now with poor mobility and pain, but carry on, like he did. He was without doubt the best gardening teacher for all abilities, new and old on the whole of youtube.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Steve - we are on Plot 32 on the Nook and Steve has been incredibly kind and supportive of us on the allotment.
All our thoughts go to all your family and friends.
Regards - Carol and Donal Plot 32 The Nook x
So sad to hear Stve has died. Seeing Steve wave goodbye at the end of this video has a whole new meaning ❤
Oh Steve, I have been utterly devastated to hear of your passing. You will never know the difference your teaching and guidance has made to thousands of us. You have been a steady constant and I can't quite believe you will no longer be here. I hope you are in peace and that the LORD has granted you a sprawling garden with all your favourite varieties and unimaginable colour. Sending love and condolences to your dear wife and family. Love Farida
Just learned of Steve’s passing on Tony C Smith’s channel. Even though I had seen him diminish before my very eyes over the last few months, and I had my concerns, I literally only watched his latest video yesterday, so hearing this news today really blindsided me. I am so happy to hear he was able to marry his love before his passing, some comfort to her that may bring. Thank you Steve, for helping me on my gardening journey & teaching me ways & techniques. You will be greatly missed, but, thankfully you will be forever with us, in the videos you left for us to watch & for future generations to stumble upon. Now the real work starts for you in earnest. I hear The Garden of Eden is quite expansive ❤🥔 😢 🍅 🍇 😇🌺🥦💜 🥬 🥺 🌽😇🌸 🥕
RIP Steve may you find a gorgeous garden to till in heaven
So devasted to hear about Steve today 😢 as a fellow Cumbrian gardener I valued his knowledge immensly ...he will be very missed ..RIP Steve 🙏♥️🙏 thinking of his friends and family at this very sad time xx
R.I.P Steve I'm so sorry to hear you have passed, My thoughts and prayers are with your family and close friends at this awfully sad time god bless xxxxx
Thank you for all your knowledge of gardening and encouragement. I will continue to use all your tips and especially plant green side up!
I went 10 years with suspected/diagnosed sciaticca, anti inflamatory tablets and pain killers, by chance I happened to see a new Dr, who said I was not walking properly, went for xrays, found out both my hips needed replacing, had one done in 2015, and the other one in 2016, since then no pain whatsoever, taken no tablets since. I am so gratefull to that Dr for getting the diagnosis spot on. I feel for you the pain is relentless and can get you down at times. Perhaps with this upcoming surgery you will be pain free, got my fingers crossed for you. All the best and good luck.
Very kind of you for letting us know in advance.
I hope everything goes well with the opp and speedy recovery. We will miss you loads. You are such a great teacher
Sorry to hear the very sad news of Steve's passing, much love to his wife, family and friends 💙
Just heard the sad news that Steve has passed. I'm in tears :( He will be very much missed by so many of us. He was a great and generous teacher. I will still return to this channel to recap on the many many tips he has give us. RIP
Steve....thank you sooooo much for all your kindness and knowledge.......such a beautiful man...May you RIP! ❤😢
Rest in peace Steve. Thanks for your work! Condolences to your family.
I'm saddened to hear Steve recently passed away. Condolences to his family
RIP Steve - You brought us joy and happiness and we are devastated to hear of your passing. Green side up my dear friend!
Oh no... I really didn't know. I'm so sorry Anne. I thought I would pop in and see what's up. I'm in total shock!!!! how can it be, our lovely Steve gone! I know you relied on him a lot as did I with my hubby who took care of me for the last few years with poor health, he passed away in 2018.
It was very fast as it was with Steve, literally weeks from start to finish with cancer. It leaves us totally bereft so quickly. Take care of yourself now and get as much help as you can. But remember, you can do more than you think you can, yes it's slower and yes it's harder, but what a feeling when you achieve something you didn't think you could manage.
Such a shock .. he kept positive right to his unexpected end. So glad he got married to Ann at the end ... he gave lots of enjoyment from his passion for gardening and I hope he knew that he had shared that so well with everyone. RIP gentle soul.
Rest in Peace, Steve.
So sad to hear of your passing. Thank you for inspiring so many gardeners. I’m sure you’re smiling down on all the busy gardeners and all the lovely green growth. 💚
What a nice man, to have made that farewell video that we never realised at the time, thanks for all your videos Steve x
So sorry to hear of the passing of this lovely man
Just been sat watching Steve's videos from the beginning again gonna download all of them as he was just too good and honest a gardener and person to possibly loose to RUclips archives
Thanks for letting us know Steve, that was really good of you. I hope all goes well when you do get the surgery. Make sure you take the time to recover properly, it's as important as the operation itself. 😊
RIP Steve, your passing has affect so many people and i know that we will be all planting 'Green Side Up' and you will be forever in our thoughts
🥀✨🙏
Just found out and i'm gutted,i didn't know Steve but he was one gardener i really enjoyed watching xxxx
Just came from Gardener Scott. So sorry to hear of this loss. Prayers to the family
RIP Steve, will still watch your videos for inspiration
I've just heard that Steve passed away today 😢 thank you for all your videos and advise. You will truly be missed. May you rest in peace xx
Rest in peace Steve. You will be sorely missed. Deepest condolences to your family.
Steve taught me soooo much about gardening, raising fruit and veg and thousands of other allotment holders will have had the same benefit of his experience and knowledge and for generations to come. Always in awe of his volume and speed of sowing seeds and really valued his garden-side chats. I will treasure his videos and his allotment legacy as will thousands of others. Cheerio Steve. I shall plant some Crimson Crush tomatoes next year in your honour!
I saw this sad news earlier and I haven't been able to think of anything else all day. I only discovered Steve fairly recently as, having moved into my first house in the last few years, this year is my first full growing season. Green Side Up has become my go-to for any advice and gardening newbie "silly questions" I may have. Since discovering the channel and Steve's smiling face, whenever I'm planting out I think to myself about how I'm planting it "green side up". I never knew Steve, but I'm heartbroken by the news of his death, I had no gardening jobs to do this evening but I found a few things to do just so I could spend time in the garden thinking of him. My thoughts are with his family and his friends. Rest in peace.
RIP Steve. You're videos will be missed. What a gift having your garden knowledge right here at our finger tips.
Rest in peace dear man. You were loved.
Just heard from Tony on here of the sad passing of you Steve. RIP good fella. Xx
RIP Steve 🌻
R.I.P STEVE GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GARDENING TIPS AND Knowledge
Just found out the news as I haven't visited the channel in a while. So very sad to hear of Steve's passing, he came across as a really genuine and passionate guy. I got my first allotment 3 years ago and this channel was very inspiring at the time. Even when planting now, I still always think of Steve saying "Stick em in green side up!"
RIP ❤
You'll be greatly missed Steve! You were one of my first and most influential gardeners here on RUclips. Your knowledge, wisdom and common sense approach to gardening is second to none and will never be forgotten. Your legacy will surely live on through all your RUclips pupils including myself ❤
Sorry to hear, condolences to his wife.
Just learnt of Steve's passing today was looking for inspiration for lotty as I often do especially on a Sunday morning before visiting my own
Was greeted with this extremly sad news 😢 I am truly so sorry for your loss deverstated such a legend 🌹RIP Steve 😭 xx
Thanks Steve, you thought so much. Thanks for your generosity and love. The world needs more people like you.
Too long to explain, but I found out about your departure too late. I feel have lost a friend and, certainly, a great teacher
Rest in peace Steve
I'm new to veg growing and took on growing everything in the world, I had so much to learn, a huge uphill learning curve over the last 2 years and Steve has been inspirational in helping me develop my skills. I've got so much still to learn and will be lost without his guidance. A very sad loss, what a beautiful man he was. Thank you Steve.
Oh dear only just seen this. So sorry for your loss! Steve was a lovely man and my recently completed poly tunnel was constructed using Steve’s advice!
Used to love watching his videos.
So sad…
I wish you the very best.
Regards
Phil
I am very sorry to reading about your loss. My sincere condolences. I had suffered from sciatica a few years ago and was unable to move for three months. So I thought Steve's recovery took a little longer and I just found out about his passing. He was such a gentle man, modestly sharing his knowledge and experience, calmly explaining everything. I will continue revisiting his videos as long as you allow us. All my best wishes from Athens, Greece.
