I grew up on this game, believe it or not. It was... kind of cool in my memory. I at least appreciated the monster animations and attempt at an original story.
My only complaint with the story of this game was that I wish Scott had a better motivation than just wanting the god cards for power. His having maybe a terminally ill family member that helps you from time to time within the game themselves would have made more sense. Scott's motivation to use the god cards to cure their illness. Other than that this was my favorite Yu-gi-oh spin-off for the games.
I still own this game to this day, got it when I was 7 and I’m 24 now. I’ve came back to this game almost more than any other game I’ve played before. It holds a very dear spot in my heart. An experimental concept of yu-gi-oh with a roaming world with rpg esc features. It is very grind and grow following repetitiveness so I understand it falling into a niche. But it will forever be one of my favorite games!
I feel the same! I can't call it good but I love coming back to it every few years and finding more to dissect. Not something I can say about other games generally considered great, like Ocarina of Time, which I played exactly once
Genuinely one of my favourite games of all time. I still have a copy. Probably played through each campaign a good 30 or 40 times. Something about it was just so good.
I begged my mom to take me down to toys R us to get the game guide because i could not figure out how to play. Still enjoy it as it has a sweet spot in my heart a long with other gamecube games
This game was awesome. And fun fact Joey's campaign which you unlock after beating both Yugi's campaign, and Kaiba's campaign is actually a prequel to Yugi's campaign.
I personally loved Falsebound Kingdom and really wish they wouldve made an anime or at least a manga based off of the events of Forbidden Memories, Duelist of the Roses, and The Falsebound Kingdom. All three could have made for some awesome material.
Falsebound Kingdom really seemed like a bold first installment for what could have been an amazing niche for Yugioh games. It could have been like what Legacy of Goku 1 was for RPG DBZ games, for example. Change the focus from the anime characters to the lore infused "monsters" (as much of a monster you can call cards like Auram or Maurading Captain), speed up the overworld so you don't have to sit for minutes at a time doing nothing, get rid of central bases and make more scenarios just pure area control (keep control of _ percentage of the map by the time _ timer runs down, or just control the whole map) so you don't have 60% of the scenarios be conga lines to and from both sides' major bases, and tweak some battle mechanics to actually work (remember when Speed was a stat in the game? Me neither); now you've got yourself a sequel that can not fail. In the way of battle changes: Add a speed stat so proper turns can also exist (having an opponent attack three times in a row is the most annoying thing). Balance out attack and defense; defense in the game is literally a useless stat unless you spend AP guarding - which is never a great option because you are not doing damage to your opponent in the meantime. Speaking of AP, make it so running out of AP is less annoying. Ending a battle halfway through is a novel concept for all of the very first mission you play. Have the "Wait" command grant you 1 AP in exchange for that turn, and make it so that basic attacks can be done even at 0 AP, but they deal only half damage. Now if an enemy monster lives on 12 hp, they won't be a time wasting nuisance. You are completely outclassed and want the battle to end? That's what the "Run" button is for. Statuses also need a revamp: None of them should stack on top of each themselves, and Paralysis specifically needs to give the monster at least some chance to move. And finally, accuracy. Why does it feel like every move in the game (except never miss moves) caps out at 90% accuracy? The standard should be a guaranteed hit. Leave the "inaccurate, even at base" to attacks that deal a ton of damage if they land. And... honestly, that's all the big changes they need to do. Obviously add new monsters, items, and moves. They could also go full JRPG and have monsters learn more than just two moves as they level up, but that would take a ton of resources and effort, so it isn't 100% needed. Giving moves (and magic items) more diverse stats could also help. As it is in the game, every attack does ~10% of the monster's ATK stat unless stated otherwise (*cough*Raigeki*cough*). Maybe have some moves deal only 6%, but have a chance at recovering AP, or some moves deal 15%, but have lower accuracy. Though, again, this is wishful thinking on top of the wishful thinking that Konami will ever replicate FBK ever again.
this series is very interesting since I am a die hard fan of Yu GI oh games, especially Forbidden Memories. you deserve a lot of subscribers for this work!
this channel desirves more love. I am a vet of the Yugioh franchise and even I did not know a lot of the info you dropped in this series. I hope to see this project grow as I want to see your video on the sequel of The Sacred Cards. This is so awesome!. Please keep pushing on my friend.
Kinda wish they'd make a new game with these characters again (Simon Miran, Darknite, etc) This, Forbidden Memories and Roses of the Duelist were all very unique and while they had their problems I still think they were pretty cool all things considered.
I have such fond but murky memories of all these games. Loved going through this retrospective series and looking forward to the rest. Earned yourself a sub.
Based off the gameplay shown it looks like you got to the point where every other marshal starts using polymorization (particularly Mavelus) then stopped. This combined with the medicine items really slows down the 1st playthrough regardless of which campaign you start with. In yugis story things really pick up once he gets his magicians and you get access to stronger lv 5 magic and in kaibas once you get the blue eyes and can spam back polymorization 😁! Finding some monsters can be very annoying (look up moisture creature) but the necessary ones tend to come with new marshals that join your side. The attributes system basically makes your monster stronger the more a marshal uses it but works best the closer the colors match at 1st between Marshal and monster. The god cards are more like summon items that you get 1 of every play through of a campaign based on the one you beat but the god items can only be used by yugi, kaiba, and ishizu. Sorry I’m just a big fan of the game and wanted to add a bit more for anyone interested lol
You could get wild monsters by fighting them an winning. Battles are done by points. Defending gives your 500 points an when attacked your points will also increase based on how much you where able to block.
Ah Reshef of Descriotion, I remmeber playing that game on an emulator after hearing it was a sequel to the Sacred Cards and it being an original story. At the time I was like "Ah, I beat Sacred Cards as a kid before, I'm sure this game will be just like that one, I should be fine" oh boi, was I wrong there, so so wrong. This game, not including Master Duel, is probably the hardest Yu-Gi-Oh!! game I ever played...so yeah good luck buddy :)
I'm honestly looking most forward to capsule monsters coliseum. Me and my friend have been playing through it and we consider it probably one of the best yugioh games out there. So it'll be fun to see it here too. As I also believe it's the first yugioh game with full voice acting
I was thinking the exact same when I found this channel today and realized he hasn't made a retrospective on Coliseum. I have the game on the PS2 still and I want to replay it. I have good memories playing it as a kid.
Did anyone notice that there is a shared ost not only with duelist of the roses but also with breed and battle, the yugi boss theme is the one as well as kaiba theme in breed and battle is yugis in fbk
Got this game for Christmas 2003, only finished it this year. It's a game I'd occasionally play when visiting home. IOnce I categorized it as a "zone out" game, I was able to enjoy it MUCH more and was quite invested by the end, and it did make for some fun strategy with training up my various marshals and coordinating my fusions for each chapter.
can’t agree on the soundtrack, a lot of the tracks slap, not all of them but the team builder track, makhad at night are some of my favorites. actually inspired me in a lot of ways to pursue music in my life.
Wow, I remember playing this game a LOT. It was basically how I imagined duel monsters to work in the Ancient Egypt time period of Yugioh. I wish we got an overworld rpg game like Stardust Accelerator with the card gameplay of a current Yugioh title but with a story set in the first series and Millenium World.
honestly this begs the questions...why the hell did komami stop making games like this? clearly there is a redicules amount of untapped potential in such a cooncept, but the problem is they just kindof half assed it,like many of thier other spinoff games. and some of these games werent even actually finnished (looking at you capsal monsters). what id honestly like to see is them doing a remake for each of thier main spinoff games Dotr, falsbound kingdom and CmC with some more modern cards and updated graphics. and for falsbound kingdom, imagine the concept only instead of using the the anime characters...imagine a story focused on the monsters themselves, there is enough lore and characterization to some of these cards that it would be easy to make out a fleshed out character. like imagine playing as marauding captain rising through the ranks durring a period of intense war,or following the quest of Zera and his search for the Archlords,or some of the main cards in durring the wars of Duel terminal. the possibilities are endless

I'm surprised that Konami never tried to make a tabletop style game for Yugioh back in the day. The whole Duelist Kingdom ark felt more like a tabletop game than a card game (like some kind of fusion of the two). It's too bad they lost interest in doing spin off games. I guess this is the closest there will ever be to a Yugioh RPG game.
I got this game for Christmas in 2003. I was expecting a card game, but I didn't mind what this game did. Though, it took me over 30 minutes just to finish each level. And Moisture Creature I had to look up online to figure out how to unlock.
6:15 Funny enough, I was going to correct you on this because some of these lower quality sprites were used in the GBA Worldwide Edition game (or Expert 2 for JP). Didn't realize that this game came first.
This game is loads of fun in my opinion. I love that I can get new monsters and muck around with different team comps. I'd play it ten times over going back to some hot garbage like Cross Duel
Guys, this might sound weird but do any of you remember a cut scene where there's a girl and other monsters in like a hot spring or something? I remember activating it a few times by going into the mountains and letting the time go by. I can't find anything about this online but I could had sworn it happened in this game
Wish it got a reboot his games nuts with 3 interlocking story’s To 100% he game you have to beat the story’s something like 7-9 times because of monster meet ups that require a monster you get from a different story line It made every play though a little different and forced you to explore more

Hey, it's the game that literally needs inaccurate emulation to work correctly because nobody bothered confirming it was programmed right. What a treat.
I don't know who is ultimately to blame for my experience. I don't remember how this game was advertised, I don't play RTSs today and most certainly didn't then, so I have no clue how good or bad it was for its genre. I just know I was like 12, I had a Gamecube, I loved Yugioh, and I couldn't wait to play a new Yugioh game on Gamecube. This... was not what I was expecting or wanting, and I lost a precious Blockbuster rental to it.
Glade bound kingdoms was such a disappointment to me, at first. But then I kinda fell in love with the game. Was so pissed I never found out how to get the 3rd harpy sister when I had the game
There were five card based JRPGs on the GameCube (six if you count Mega Man Network Transmission)...and the Yu-Gi-Oh! game on the GameCube decided to copy Ogre Battle. Make it make sense.
Wish they would remake The Falsebound Kingdom I'm tired of the way Yu-gi-oh is now. I don't watch the show anymore and don't play video games outside of the originals. I only collect the cards. My only complaint with the story of this game was that I wish Scott had a better motivation than just wanting the god cards for power. His having maybe a terminally ill family member that helps you from time to time within the game themselves would have made more sense. Scott's motivation to use the god cards to cure their illness.
One of my favorite games I feel like you have too much hate. I grew up with this graphics were way better then morrowind a game of year game. Remember this was only on Nintendo GameCube.
After how bad and stupid the current Yugioh has become, I've been revisiting these old classics and this is still one of my favorites. Happy to see someone talking about it.
I remember renting this game so many times trying to actually understand how the hell to beat it or make progress . Such a lame game tbh lol had to look it up to see what I didn’t understand . That’s how I found this video lol

This series is something that i needed. I love the weird path of the spin-off games. I would pre-order a new DDM or Capsule Coliseum
DDM is such a dope concept that they need to refine and rerelease
I begged my mom to take me down to toys R us to get the game guide because i could not figure out how to play. Still enjoy it as it has a sweet spot in my heart a long with other gamecube games

Still have this game, and still play it from time to time. A masterpiece
They were more creative with the games back then, huh? Nowadays, we just get simulators.

I loved playing a friend's copy of this. It kind of reminds me of Ogre Battle aka my favorite console SRPG
Just bought this on eBay
I'm surprised that Konami never tried to make a tabletop style game for Yugioh back in the day. I really loved this game growing up. This and Duelist of the Roses
5:11 But this game is not connected to the True Duel Monsters sub-series. It doesn't even carry this name in the Japanese version.
This, duelist of the roses, and capsule monster coliseum was better spin offs to the original story then any series that followed them 😭🤣
There was so much spare time I would just spend the free time entering gold cheat code constantly
Dude, I love your content. Keep up the good work!
6:15 Funny enough, I was going to correct you on this because some of these lower quality sprites were used in the GBA Worldwide Edition game (or Expert 2 for JP).

This game was my first yugioh game and it was definitely not easy
I enjoyed it. I remembered it was long
Wish it got a reboot his games nuts with 3 interlocking story’s
To 100% he game you have to beat the story’s something like 7-9 times because of monster meet ups that require a monster you get from a different story line
It made every play though a little different and forced you to explore more
I liked this game even though I did get stuck on a mission being Tea’s rescue mission and some areas you can get more monsters like the Wolf in the first area
Wish we could get a remake of this game or a better attempt at a turn based RPG using Yugioh monsters lol
Honestly though, that's all I wanted out of it to begin with!
My only complaint with the story of this game was that I wish Scott had a better motivation than just wanting the god cards for power. His having maybe a terminally ill family member that helps you from time to time within the game themselves would have made more sense. Scott's motivation to use the god cards to cure their illness. I grew up literally playing this and beyblade and sonic, but I ended up coming back just to see if I could max my monsters.
But yes it's painfully slow but so am i 🗿

Feels like this game should have either a Fire Emblem esque game with abilities and boss monsters. Maybe play up that virtual arc with Noah Kaiba.

Finally, lol been waiting on this one... Guilty pleasure
The Virtual World arc but awesome
Kingdom could technically sell well.
Compared to board games like battleship, risk, sorry, life, monopoly
It's like Dragon force for the Saturn where it's a mix of both Risk and Pokemon
I thought the character portraits were the ones used in Worldwide Edition.
I wish this game had more meat to it, like on par with SMT. As it is, I'd describe it as anemic.
Hey, it's the game that literally needs inaccurate emulation to work correctly because nobody bothered confirming it was programmed right. What a treat.

Falsebound Kingdom is essentially asset flip the game, which is a shame since the cover art is fantastic.

Which ones? 😮
This was the only game we got on the gamecube. Really a shame. I think the xbox got an exclusive too if I remember correctly?
Yes
Wish they would remake The Falsebound Kingdom I'm tired of the way Yu-gi-oh is now. I don't watch the show anymore and don't play video games outside of the originals. I only collect the cards. My only complaint with the story of this game was that I wish Scott had a better motivation than just wanting the god cards for power. His having maybe a terminally ill family member that helps you from time to time within the game themselves would have made more sense. Scott's motivation to use the god cards to cure their illness.
This game was kinda frustrating
One of my favorite games I feel like you have too much hate. I grew up with this graphics were way better then morrowind a game of year game. Remember this was only on Nintendo GameCube.
Did you just say Yugi has Obelisk and Kaina has Slyfer?
For final bossess at least
@@ZarctheCelestialDuelist no my point is they have the wrong gods
After how bad and stupid the current Yugioh has become, I've been revisiting these old classics and this is still one of my favorites. Happy to see someone talking about it.
Yugioh capsule monster coliseum cx
I remember renting this game so many times trying to actually understand how the hell to beat it or make progress . Such a lame game tbh lol had to look it up to see what I didn’t understand . That’s how I found this video lol
Ewwww albaz lore
