On today’s episode, The History Guy tells three stories surrounding Pearl Harbor. First, he’ll tell the story of the unsung heroics of the Sikorsky JRS-1s, small, unarmed planes that faced incredible danger during and after the attack on December 7th. Then he’ll tell the story of two pilots who got into the air that fateful day: George Welch and Kenneth Taylor. Finally, he’ll tell the story of one of the Pearl Harbor Battleships sunk that day, the only battleship to also shell the shores of Normandy on D-Day.

Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don’t. And believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy, just that it would be worth it

Agreed,as its too late for any regret & its better to avoid having a lot.FYI.These days, the reason could well be humans,as we have become powerful without becoming responsible, sadly.

My dad and I fight over tootsie rolls every Halloween, granted we're both too old to trick or treat but we buy the super large bag that is only in stores during Halloween. Then I give out the name brand items at the trunk or treats.

Geoffrey Crayon's Christmas chapters were reprinted several times as Old Chrustnas. With quaint illustrations. He influenced the holiday Dickens "remembered"

In U.S. Army Basic Training during the late 1980s, my battle buddy had a mother who demonstrated her sincere love for her son by shipping an enormous cardboard box, full of candy. No joke, the box was about half as tall as a refrigerator! But what she did not understand was, in early Army Basic Training, literally "no good deed goes unpunished."
In our 'tear them down' phase of training, the Drill Sergeant took particular delight in quoting how many push-ups The Drill expected my battle buddy to perform per item. I don't think even Batman would have survived it!
As a battle buddy, we were expected/ordered to "have his back at all times." And this gigantic amount of physical stress/punishment seemed an appropriate time for me to act. But I had a delicious plan. The best way to fight a superior opponent is to use their strength against them. So I looked directly into his eyes and asked, "Drill Sergeant, as his battle buddy, can I also do pushups and get the candy?"
My eye contact irritated the Drill Sergeant, who responded as I'd hoped -- by screaming at a private who dared ask a question! "I DON'T CARE WHO DOES THE PUSHUPS! YOU DO THEM, YOU GET THE CANDY!"
As I assumed 'the position,' every private in the training platoon also dropped and pushed out our repetitions, then collected and enjoyed our reward! The 'build them back from the ground up' phase came a week early!
Saving a life was never so sweet!

I still remember when Hershey made a bar for the troops in Operation Desert Shield/Storm that was formulated so it wouldn't melt as easily in the hot conditions out there. They actually also marketed it to the public as the Desert Bar. I quite liked them because they were rather dark, due to the fact that milk chocolate is quicker to melt, and I've always liked dark chocolate.

My mother sent my big brother oranges when he was in the Gulf War(Marines). They had been living off of a breakfast of powdered eggs, a small apple, and a"milk" carton & 1 MRE a day, while moving across the desert and digging a fox hole every night. When he peeled the first orange while in his fox hole everyone was on him.

Dear History Guy, I am wondering if you can do a video on the strange story of Grigiori Rasputin. The movie Anastasia painted him as a villain, but other sources portrayed him as someone who helped the Tsar. What were his origins? What were his real agendas? Were his reported multiple attempts at execution fabricated? Or was there more to the story?
