🔴 / stichmethod 🔴The song "Ophelia" by The Band is a great tune to jam over. The chord progression is actually kind of complex and offers quite an interesting array of soloing options. I hope you enjoy learning at whatever level of a guitarist you are at. Let me know in the comments how you are doing. All of the videos I reference are listed below.

This is a VERY good tutorial on soloing techniques. Sometimes we just have to be told to "mix it up" and you've done that very well here. thank-you!
I’ve been noodling on this thing for 20yrs. I can usually get a mediocre version of a song under my fingers in an hr tops. If I spent 2 weeks with this video, practicing these concepts(hope I do)....it would benefit me more than my last five years of my noodling. Great content Stitch!! Thank you
I too get that wonderful happy grin you display when enthused!
You inspire me to get better.
Thankyou.
Mr Stich. I can’t begin to tell you how much i love this lesson. It speaks to me exactly. This is now my study guide for the next .... well .... several weeks😁👍🏻👍🏻
This is basically what I came here to say, but you said it so eloquently that I'll just reply with a "ditto". :)

Ditto datt!
Youre page has improved my playing tenfold! Thanks for all you do.
Dude, you are amazing! Such a pleasure to watch and listen to. Your heart is in the exact right place, and it shows. Excellent lessons, amazing vibe.
great song appreciatd the work you put into these lessons...they been working for me man
I missed this video, and just rediscovered it.
So much fun and SO helpful.
I recorded to chords on a looper. It was too fast. So I looped it slowly. THAT did the trick! After about 1/2 an hour at that pace, I went back to full speed with much better results!
And I’m still only half way thru the video.
Thanks again for the great content!
I have been enjoying your channel for a few years. However today I just had a light bulb moment withe the 6ths and their relationship to the chords!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!
That mixture of pentatonic and chord chunks is quite tasty!
Excellent..really enjoyed that... it's got so much there it's a real confidence booster.
One of the great jam songs explained to perfection...Thanks 4 The Video!..🎸🔊🎶🤘
This is such a GREAT song. I LOVE the Band.
me too man
Ditto
Have to throw on the Last Waltz every once in a while. Missing Levon.
This video is amazingly helpful. You are dropping jewels on us. Maximum respect and appreciation.
What a great lesson, Ian. I remember watching this when it came out, but i really got more out of it now that I've grown as a guitarist. Thanks
Thanks for this. Just working on this tune in our band and while copying Robbie's wonderful solo is great, your breakdown of how to make it "your own" has been truly instructive and helpful.
Another lIght bulb lesson. Spectacular teaching. You make it fun and informative. I'm starting to think I might actually be understanding music thanks to you.
Awesome lesson. You ripped that solo. Looking forward to the Patreon practice sessions.
In the words of Mr. Clapton... There it is all laid out! Thanks dude, I watched (and practiced) all those other videos and evidently I learned enough for this to slap me right in the face.
I had SEVERAL The Band songs in my head at work today busting my ass making wooden reels... And then you post this... You made my whole day, Stitch. Lol!
this song just makes me so happy. even tho its heart wrenching in it's story.
Thank you! Really linked some things together for me , theory wise.
I don't know which is better: Your analogies or watching you get lost in the rambling of your own analogies!
Side note: great video!
His videos sort of have a hanging out with your friends vibe that they wouldn't have if he sanitized them. Also, I've been playing forever yet I still learn from what he puts out. You're a very gifted teacher my friend.
@@redwhiteblue9866 Exactly.! You forget he’s a teacher giving you this information for a living. It’s much more like you’re hanging out with a friend who’s helping you get better at guitar.
wow I think i'll be watch this one for days and days. Great lesson thank you
Wow! This explains A LOT! Awesome!
Thanks Fun stuff to work with,im working on it.love it.
Thank you once again for sharing your talent as a musician and as an educator. Your video lessons are able to get through to me and my rather thick cranium. I'm a former self taught guitar player that, due to hand problems, moved to lap steel. I "translate" as much as I can from your videos so I can apply it to my instrument. I wish I could find a teacher as good as you for direct guidance. You wouldn't perhaps have a sibling that teaches lap steel do you? :) Best to you, Stich.
Good stuff bro. Love this tune. Loved the Band.
Since I'm a continent apart, I have to settle on these videos being the closest I'll get to chilling with you over some hummus. We love you, Stitch!
Super cool lesson. Thank you
You’ve got great vibrato. Thats something that is really difficult to achieve. It’s not just the quality of the vibrato but how tastefully and appropriately its applied. Beautiful!
Stitch - you have become quite the guitar player. Thanks for the lesson.
Wow! Great stuff!!
Cool lesson. I liked the arpeggio section too. You should be able to play all of the arpeggios around the 12-15th frets too, although they'll each have different shapes. Sounds like you have a video coming soon about that.
Damn that Mixo-Dorian does rock on this one. I’m going to have to revisit that one.
Dude! Great lesson. 👍
Great video, Always a Hoot!
thx stich you're the best!
Love it. Thanks!
What a terrific video 😊
You are a mind reader, yet again. I was going to ask you to teach me this at our nextlesson after watching last weeks three noter. Trying to lay down the rythm loop.
Awesome!
Good shit Maynard, right there!
Great video!!!
Really thankfull for the harmony explanation, kinda rush up the 5 of the 5 concept but something to start immersing on that nonetheless, wish you do this 'harmony part' on all coming lessons, and again thanks!!
Great video!! More than fun 😅
been on a boring plateau until this lesson THANK YOU.
Good stuff , jamming this at open mike soon , thx
Dude you are amazing
Excellent
Very nice, thanks.
good stuff, Ian. got it, at least the first two sections.... thanks.
This is a great lesson, Stich. Quite possibly my favorite of your videos. It probably helps that Ophelia is one of my favorite songs. Thank you so much.
We do this song so Thankyou
Reeking havok is just where I wanna be ... thank ma
So I’m watching this and say to myself, “He’s not telling us about the sixths”. Then voila, you mentioned them. Cool lesson man!
Haha I’m totally using the smorgasbord analogy from now on. Very healthy choices too! Could you tell me what is the backing track app/setup you are using please?? Really enjoy your teaching style. Thanks man!!
I love this song!! Funky ad you wanna be!
Welp, I know what I'm doing over thanksgiving weekend. Killer video! If you have a sec, what do you use for the drum track?
Simply excellent. Thank you.
Thank You
Brilliant lesson, but I am hungry now.
Thanks
Awesome.....really!,,,
Love you.
WAIIIDESPREAD PAAAANIC!
Mix-O’Dorian havoc !
Cheese! How did you not grab cheese at the buffet?!
Seriously, great video. There is so much to learn and process in this one lesson! This could keep me busy for a long time.
Could you do an in the mind of the sax player on Lou Reed’s Walk On The Wildside?
Great lesson, thanks Stitch! Now a lesson for you - in the hierachy of charcuterie, meat and cheese always come before humus and cucumbers. C'mon man! Haha.
It would be Amazing to see you analyze Maggot Brain by Funkadelic :D
For me, this lesson is enhanced by the fact that you look like Garth Hudson 😜
For anyone wondering the chord progression is:
C E A D F G C A D and probably all domimant
As Jules Winfield would say, check out the big brain on Stich lol
So money... Love me some Band. Was wondering if you could maybe do one for "Cortez the Killer" at some point? It's only Em7-D-Am and "simple" to play, but watching Gov't Mule live and playing along with Warren, there's a lot more in there than meet's the eye.. Would love your thoughts on it. It would be in the key of G correct? But there's not G in the song!
It’s G which is E minor as well. I’ll have a stab at it!
@@StichMethodGuitar Yeah initially was just playing Em pentatonic and it didnt fit completely...Tried Dorian and still off..But when I realized it was in G and the Em7 was the vi chord It makes sense.. E Aeolian w/ a major 7th it is!! That vi-ii-V progression is interesting..So I think I answered my own question..But wouldn't have been able to without Stich Method..Happy Thanksgiving bro!
Boards on the window...mail by the door..
#riplevon
Will there be a rhythm lesson? How do I make the backing track?
he used a loop pedal and he did 2 lessons the first one shed light on the rythym
I knew he used a loop but normally on his jams or in the mind ofs, he briefly goes over how he created the loop. This vid and the last he only mentions the chords without showing the technique, strum pattern, etc.
I had to pause as I found that I wasn't breathing
Great fun!! Dig this tune. Check out Larry Campbell's Ophelia solo with Levon Helm... ruclips.net/video/pcgxuGiI7wU/видео.html
Stitch.....ever thought of writing a book or 3? "Stitch method for adults with limited time".
I'm sorry, but I'm not following you.
I don't never have this problem.
Please help understanding where you're losing me.
