Mankeli was a new comedy series around the year 2000 by some of the Kummeli crew, including Heikki Silvennoinen, one of the most beloved comedy actors in Finland and the guy in this scetch. Some of Mankeli's scetches are quite legendary here, along with this one - I hear this quoted still today. The comedy here stems from the self centered character of Heikki's character, which reaches absurd levels. Also Heikki's acting and word choices are spot on for a caricature character of this nature, making him quite quotable. So don't worry, this is not a realistic depiction of how we Finns are. :)
There IS people like that. And that depiction is not even close to what some are capable of. Personality disorders are not that uncommon one might think.
I bet there are men like that, but that’s the point in these! Bringing out the less acknowleged facts. It is kinda grim to think that some people still live with a partner like that even if they have witnessed him/her doing things like that or worse. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kummeli and the spin offs and what not, but this is the reason, they lite up things that many of us take for granted or think that’s just the typical way to act…
Mankeli is kinda same as Kummeli. Few same actors like Heikki Silvenmoinen. Some people say those sketch are from Kummeli. Mankeli - Herrasmies maybe best joke without Heikki Silvennoinen.
I swear I see you watching these and youtube suggests me more of them but I can't suggest them because they don't have subtitles, then the next week you have that one that didn't have subtitles on. Mankeli is just another Kummeli continuation, they've had multiple shows with similar names. One less like the others was a comedy cop show Päärynämäen poliisit - Lihaksia ja luoteja (Pear Hill Police - Muscles and Bullets). It was a really odd and cool one. And yeah there used to be people like this, I think they're infinitely less common now. And women actually put up with them. The correct line when he's refusing to enter the taxi is not "I'm not coming to hospital and a taxi", it's "not coming to hospital, and TAYS at that". TAYS is Tampereen yliopistollinen sairaala, Tampere University Hospital. The main hospital in the region where they filmed.
Yeah, this is not too inaccurate to how traditional (read: yokel) Finnish men acted in the 80s and even in the early 90s xD However, things have changed quite a bit for the most part, and people under the age of 60is no longer act like this (outside of some rare exceptions). It is all about equal share of workload and co-operation now days, even if both have their own special tasks they are good at/like to do, the workload at home and with kids is almost always very fair these days, especially if both are working Especially in the 80s, it was quite common to see the husband act like this when they got home from work, even if the wife also worked during the day! However, the saddest thing is, I saw this sort of thing happening all the time in Japan when I lived there, and I don't expect things to get any better there for those who are already married. It is also one of the reasons why the birthrate, dating and rate of sexual encounters in Japan have been dropping dramatically
@@syrjanen3397 no they weren't, our brains are just making them seem better than they actually were. Lives in the 80s and early 90s were so much worse for almost everyone compared to now, especially in Finland. I'll just name a few things to give perspective: Finland was a mostly isolated country, there was no internet, hardly any mobile phones, alcoholism and crime rate were exponentially higher than they are now, people smoked inside (apartments, restaurants, cars, airplanes etc), Soviet Union was a constant threat, Nuclear war was always just minutes away, Chernobyl accident, the collapse of the Soviet Union that led to Finland's great depression and massive uptake in mafia and criminal activity spilling out from Russia, HIV was deadly, we almost destroyed our ozone layer (which was especially bad for Finland, since the weakening/hole was above us), gay people got ostracized, severely beaten and often fired, many mental conditions were considered a personal weakness, religion was very oppressively present in schools, capital punishments were still not uncommon, masturbation and anything to do with sex was demonized with ridiculous propaganda and last but not least Finland always lost in Ice Hockey That is just the tip of the ass-berg of what was way way way way way worse in the 80s and early 90s than today, people just tend to remember only the few good bits, and most of even those have been altered by our brains (because that is what it does)
Id say this is more relevant to older generations and i wouldnt be surprised if someone was actually like this. In older movies or tv-shows from 80s-90s it has been quite popular depiction of a finnish man to find a wife to take care of them while they themselves are drinking beer on the sofa.
Yes, its the same actor. Heikki Silvennoinen. Hes also a blues musician.
This is unfortunately accurate description of what we call Miesvauva, a Manbaby.
Joojoo manchild on ihan englanninkielessäki tuttu termi
"And a taxi!" part is a bit wrong. He is saying "Ja _TAYSsi_. Meaning Tampereen yliopistollinen sairaala, meaning the University Hospital of Tampere.

That great example of finnish dark humour
And i love it.

Happy Mother's Day!
Haha, this one would definitely mean atleast few days of "yard feeding" in real life :D

Makes me laugh every time.
Mankeli - suleima sketch is also classic one!
This is so good that it makes me mad 😂😭 Manbaby
Certified sigma male. Gaslight, Gatekeep, Guyboss.
This is funny but also painful for how accurate it is
when that aziz combat fighter?
Uncensored version eventually.
mankeli is like kummeli part 2 with some of the same actors
This is actually very close to truth! Hahaha! They just exaggerate little bit. Brilliant!
I was laughing even more when i saw your face! xD
Suomalainen Mies= Finnish Man
Yes.I feel it's close the truth in our family also.

Kummeli is great but I've always preferred Mankeli.

you must watch this clip: Kummeli - Catch A Fish (Finnish Comedy) [English Subtitles]
and this - Kummeli - Klassikko (english subtitles)
What a wonderful man
This is Classic!!!😂
Mankeli was kind of "spin-off" to kummeli... same actors and crew with little twist..
I can’t watch this even though I love Kummeli and Mankeli. The father of my child (now ex for obvious reasons) was too much like that guy. 😬
After giving birth he told me I looked so horrible, he was worried he’ll never want me again. 😂 Well I was actually relieved.
Hah i didint remember that.
Miten voi olla nainen noin hankala 😂
I love Glasgow Rangers!
You will find this kind of guys in Tampere.😂
Yup, the joke is that poor woman have a big baby in her house already, that annoying man.

My parents have farm and my mum went milking the cows the same morning before going to hospital for the delivery. That was 1988.

Almost too accurate presentation of a Finnish man.
I remember this and got sad. It was not funny.
