What happens when you fall in love with someone when you are not supposed to fall for anyone?... NewJeans tells the story of forbidden love (she is cupid..she can make people fall in love, not fall in love) . While the video shows the longing and struggle of the story, the lyrics talks about the kind of love that just feels right even after in the midst of doubts.
Cupid wants to fall in love herself and ignores her duty to match up the guy and his soulmate in the elevator like she should 3:23 (Side A); She falls in love with him only for him to leave her for his soulmate (same girl from the elevator) in Side B. In the outro (Get up), I guess she moves on and restores her hope in love?
This was not so abstract :-) This is pretty much the story of CUPID and PSYCHE. But the gender roles are reversed for this. The painting in the museum (in the video) is the centerpiece. Cupid was not supposed to form a relationship with humans. But........
Other than the modern interpretation of Eros and Psyche, this mv kinda remind me of the idol life. They sing about love and many of their music help others fall in love, but they cannot fall in love themselves due to contract and fan culture. If they want love, they often have to give up their status as idol like how Hoyeon gave up her role as diety to be with her Psyche.
