Rob.. you know us. We don’t care for brand history, legacy, movement and design innovation, nor in house abilities. Does the chapter ring line up?! 😵💫😆
Everyone is critical of the stamped Seiko clasps but they are better than milled clasps because of 1. Lighter weight 2. Thinner profile 3. Comfort 4. Strength still OK. My Pre ceramic Rolex Submariner and Seiko have stamped clasps and they are super comfortable imo.
I've bought two Seikos the last few months, a JDM mini turtle (3:00 crown) and one of the new 'tortoise' models. Both had perfect alignment on everything.
“What are ya gonna do, right?” Stop buying seiko watches.. you say they dont care as much as we do.. if we keep buying $600 seiko watches with qc issues we care exactly as much as they do.
I have no problem buying a high quality Chinese semi-homage watch assuming the quality is near as good or better. I mean that's how a lot of these brands... became "hot" in the first place right? They were offering good quality for a good price. If a Chinese brand is using the same movement and popping in AR sapphire crystals, with good lume, bezels and indices... what's wrong with throwing a little cash towards them and keeping more in my pocket to throw into some investments or real estate ehh?
I agree if nobody buys their watches that are misaligned then they have no choice but to change but since Seikoholics keep buying them then they will never change,
Totally agree. I'm over Seiko until they can get it together or I buy in person and can inspect the product. I would rather save for and wait for a Rolex than deal with misaligned chapter rings/bezels on a $500 watch.
@@user-fq3uh7bt1t Yeah, this. If people keep buying their junk they have no reason to change. The watch market is a pretty great example of a nearly perfect free market, much like the car market at least in the US. When people willingly and happily pay astronomical prices for low quality why would you make the product better? Some of my watches have nicer bracelets and milled clasps and chapter rings that line up for half the price of this thing, so that's where my money goes, not Seiko
@@theyeti0987 sorry to say, but once you get enough scratch together a rolex I think you'll be disappointed to find out that they also have similar "QC" issues. They are also mass produced and assembled by people. sux, right? really tho rolex produces hundreds-of-thousands of watches per year.
There is an easy way out for the chapter ring alignment, rather than having the minute markers on the chapter ring, just have a blank vertical (rather than an angled) rehaute, and print the minute markers on the dial it self. Alot of other divers do this. Great review as usual Rob.
Not only is Seiko’s QC unacceptable to me. They are also pricing themselves out of what I will consider buying. in my humble opinion, a bunch of micro brands are making watches equal to,or superior to Seiko, but also far more affordable!😨
That's a sharp looking watch. I don't do Seiko's with chapter rings or bezels but I do like this one. If I saw it in person I'd be less hesitant. Also I don't mind a stamped clasp actually I like them, thinner and they just work.
I spent $375 total for a barely worn black King Turtle with a Crafter Blue rubber strap. I’m very comfortable paying that and would have paid up to $450 for everything. However, I’d never pay full retail and neither should you! P.S.:Everything lines up about 97% lol
Great review! Seiko should consider transferring the Prospex logo to right below the Seiko logo like the one in the PADI models for all their Prospex watches. It makes for a balanced dial.
In this colour scheme/configuration I prefer the Samurai to the Turtle . ..in part because of the smaller date only Cyclops .I'm thinking of buying the Samurai on the black rubber strap and then replacing it with a bought in bracelet. Anybody heard good things about the Samurai bracelet made by Long Island Watches.?! It's a good price.
Inspired by your review I just got this beautiful watch. It arrived and feels, looks great BUT on rubber or leather strap. Metal one IMHO too flashy and heavy that kills the watch appearance. I ❤ This King model so much, so, just plan to buy one more and safe it new. Black waffle one. Will it grow in price? Yes, will it change my life, No. But let it be as nice new toy in the box to open periodically and have happy smile 😂
42mm would be an ideal size for all wrists. Lately, Seiko has been producing watches with sizes that are beyond the average standard. A watch as beautiful as this one and I can't wear it due to my wrist being too thin. I definitely think this point is very negative.
i dont care about alignment, mind you im not a diver, but i do use the bezel for timing things on a daily basis, i dont care if its not on 12 all the time
Nice watch, but 45 mm is too large large for most people.. I also agree with you that Seuko really has to do something about those stamped bracelets which cheapen the product.
Just ordered mine, and I don’t give a s**t about the chapter ring, I own 12, and I ain’t gonna stop buying them… I got some Seiko luxe and Grand Seikos to buy… You know what I like about Seiko? I can go into any shop or online and pick them up without a bunch of AD b.s.🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have an spd 151 bezel too loose doesn't align 1300 watch, I have a steel dive basically a sla033 replica 110 dollars accurate to 3 seconds a day everything lines up
Yay - 4 micro adjusts! Boo - typical Seiko misalignment… You’re absolutely right - Seiko doesn’t care. If they did, they would fix it. We (consumers) need to up our expectations and voice our opinions, by NOT buying them! Perhaps then they will care.
PADI branded dive watches the equivalent of a Porsche branded jacket so passé. Nothing says professional diver more than a watch with PADI stamped on the dial.. lol
Haha, I come here for the soft takes. "aw shucks guys, my subs don't want me to go so easy on seiko." The Seiko 'QC issue' is a myth. Seiko, like every other watch company in the world produces products within a standard of tolerance bc watches are still assembled by hand by human being(only parts are machine made). This whole apparatus is well known and documented. There's is even an email floating around watchuseek from seiko stating their policy on casing tolerances. If anything, the chapter ring is a design issue, but at least they design things(... I'm looking at you chinese knockoffs). What's really f'ed is that so many of these people complaining about seiko have never even owned a prospex diver.
I ❤️ the Seiko turtle, but that's to basic for me. And the bracelet isn't as good as the strapcode wetsuit ratchet buckle. Still,. The Seiko turtle is my Rolex of choice.
just like I my said with my spb151 I will say the same on this watch seiko raise the price 25 dollars and make a higher quality bracelet with screws, The cases and bracelets even on the Japan models are made in China you can buy a Rolex replica or an independent watch manufacturers watch which screws in the bracelet for $200-$300 seiko can't put screws in the bracelets ? that bracelet cost 5-7 dollars to make.
Seiko is not what they used to be. Over-priced, poor QC watches. I guess if you only care about having the name "Seiko" on your watch --this 2nd rate stuff is for them.
With every second seiko being a special/ limited edition, the regular ones have become so rare.
And some "regular" pieces from previous years have become "rare" resulting to ridiculous prices!
@@nelsonongteleng2789well nos or example that aren’t in terrible condition, even from 10y ago are pretty rare.

Cool watch and cool that they apply wabi sabi (beautiful imperfection) - I like that it drives watch geeks crazy.
If someone at Seiko thinks that a watch with a misaligned chapter ring is worth $625; they have had WAY too much sake.

It's a $450 watch anywhere but Seiko and Mimos Jewelry.

Just got mine and the first thing I did was remove that ugly cyclops, now it looks awesome.

I didn't think the Turtle PADI King has a J version. Your have a Made in Japan text at 6:00.
Seiko won't care about QC issues until reviewers stop accepting it, and consumers stop buying their products. Until then nothing will change.
