Things definitely do seem much harder. As technology gets better, means of production become much more efficient, requiring less people to do the work. Tech company employment trends this year have mostly been about being leaner and outputting more with less staff. And I guess hence the idea that when AI reaches super intelligence there might be no need for people to work anymore....but thats not gonna happen overnight though I think. Nevertheless, I kinda guess the new challenges we face, as much as they may be daunting, also allow for a special kind of people to shine through the murk. Social media is definitely difficult, at least for me...its like one big market place for people, friends, partners etc. I think the information overload is a problem...I've taken the easy way out of it by not being on it at all, aha. Anyways, thank you for sharing Matthews, its always refreshing to hear your unique take on things. PS: Maybe one day you should do like a conversation style video with some of your subscribers, like a zoom call moderated by you etc
I'm 52 and my heart really goes out to young people getting out of school and having to deal with everything just being ridiculously expensive. You're absolutely right. Social media really can make it harder. The internet just came on the mass scene in my mid-20s, and there really wasn't huge social media platforms until I was in my late 30s, 40s. One thing I'd add as a woman. Women aren't necessarily expecting more because there wasn't a whole lot we were getting from men before anyway, lol. I think it's that more women don't need men as a protector or provider, just a good partner. But, because so many men feel pressure, they think women are asking for financial assets to prove they are worthy of their time. Yes, it's true for some women, but most, no. Great video, Matthew!
Thank you again for educating me, the OG. I already saw how the economy had degraded for average people, and how difficult it now is for young people to progress economically. Your other points were things I had not considered so much, but with your explanation, I understand those issues better now. I so appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
I used to think about the future a lot but after 2020 my mind was just blown. I just want to move into a cute home and get a boyfriend every month it seems like that dream is more and more unfeasible, as a fresh 20 year old. I'm still young so I have a little hope. My aunt and uncle will be having a baby in January. I think about her a lot. I made my mind a long time ago about not having children, the planet seems too unsustainable, too much uncertainty politically all around the world, and if it's difficult for me to mentally handle being only 22, i can't imagine growing up in an environment like that. I hope she gets to enjoy trees, gardens, fresh fruit, time outside with friends, clean water. I hope that's my pessimism talking.
