you only needed it only on the controller chip the rest would have been fine without , i have a crucial in my rig and without any cover at all the temps is well below the maximum of 65c the rest of the chips need to be warm
I do not know what temps you had in your laptop but if it was normal temps you would have been fine anyway.

Without the heatsink i got 71 degrees while gaming, and i got hardware throttle.
