  • In this video, we take a tour of the meat and produce market in Cotacachi, Ecuador. The market is open everyday, but Sunday is the day to shop since there is the largest selection available. We shop here at least twice a week and tend to return to our favorite spots. There is an enormous variety of produce and it is fresh, delicious, and much cheaper than the States.

This is so surreal! I moved to Arizona from Kuna ID back in 2018 and in a few months I will be moving to Cotacachi permanently. I love your content! So ironic that I will be in Quito for a short time and then heading to Cotacachi lol.

I just adore the look of the town, the market but more importantly, the people there. They seem to be as original as they get, if that makes any sense. Simple, pure natives without a trace of the western society in the way they dress, and I’m sure in other ways of life too. That’s why I like Ecuador. Thanks for the nice video.

Loved the video. Many many Ecuadorians are so honest. Loved it when you offered to buy the produce for $1 and he said that it would only be 50 cents. That is typical. Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing what I have been looking for and what no one seems to share. I know the difference between the food you are getting and the supermarket food in the US. I have grown my own meat and produce. I do know how to shop and get the best deal in the US. Everybody seems to show the ruthless deal making, how to avoid the "gringo price" in Ecuador. I look forward to having a person or people I get my food from. Left to their own, most people will help you; know what you want, shop what they have for you and charge you a fair price. That human connection, I think is something the US has largely lost and it is not a good thing.

thank you thank you thank you. Just lovely. I cant wait to show my dear friends that are baffled, I'm going to Ecuador. What a lovely take on the center hub of a community. I'm working on my Visa, Ecuador. Will be down '23. I have a few questions for you your experience. I'm really struggling where to 'land' in Ecuador (my and my two Portuguese Water dogs) . Thanks again for lovely video. How is Cotacachi working out for you? too small ? safe?

We feel fortunate to have chosen Cotacachi! It is small relative to other popular Ecuador cities, like Cuenca, but we don’t feel like we are missing anything. There is a lot nearby, and you can always go to Quito to get the city feel. We’ve been impressed with the wonderful variety of cafes and restaurants. Cotacachi feels very safe. Most importantly, the people are incredibly warm and friendly. They have a lot of pride in their town and it shows. It may be worth a month long exploratory trip to visit the cities you are considering before making your choice. Good luck!

      B. Pe - This is the mom of the family responding. What areas are you considering? What is important to you? Although it is a small country, Ecuador is very diverse Cotacachi has been perfect for our family because it's small and safe. And there is great mountain biking and hiking around! We even let our kids walk to soccer and skating practice and go to the park to play alone!

Wishing you would do more videos, but you are probably no longer there? I visited Cotacachi in 2014, Cuenca in 2020, headed back to Cotacachi in April. Love that town!

I was wondering the same. Recently discovered the channel and thought your documentary skills were great especially for being novice lol but then they suddenly stopped! Are you guys still in Ecuador? I'm hoping to move my family from the USA to Vilcabamba sometime this year. Just working on the visa requirements. Can't wait to tour all over though and will definitely come explore the markets there along the way ❤

@@rvmommabear Thanks for the kind feedback! Sadly, we are no longer in Ecuador. We returned to the states after 6 months, which was always our plan. Yes, definitely check out Cotacachi! It’s a wonderful town. Good luck with your move!
