- Time to do some maint on my own junk. I had to replace the window regulator on my X5 and figured I would bring you all along. Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!

All four of my door panels are so well engineered it all I have to do is look at them and they know I want them to pop off. Same thing with the windows. If you even think about rolling one down, it just drops immediately the Germans were so smart they knew you would not want to wait for the slow window to roll down. My radiator has a super cool feature where it can just expel all the fluid out to super cool quickly as possible and always from a discrete location so that any pass gets won’t see where it blows out. Another feature mine has is a buttonless radio and if you touch any other buttons, they automatically disappear. That’s some awesome German engineering.
You and I have a much different definition of well engineered if you mean engineered for every piece of plastic on the car to break that’s very well, if you mean engineered for this to happen to every single BMW X5 that is very well engineered

If you only remove those two screws you are going to break the hell out of that guy / woman's door. There are two more behind the wood paneling. You have to remove the wood paneling from the outward door side in delicately with a plastics non-marking prybar.
WWFirestick User and start at the end that is opposite of the handle working your way to the handle. It will break if you start at the handle.

You should also actually disconnect the switch first as well so you're not breaking the wire. You can pry that out with a pry bar. There are also 4 clips along the bottom of the window near the top of the panel which need to be pushed in to remove it without damaging the panel.
@ 4:19 no one done broke it already but you when you pulled up on the panel without doing it right!
I just don't know how to put the clips back for the window😮
Hello, I don't know your name, but thanks for the video. I bought my 2003 BMW X5 last November, within a week-the driver's side window went down and would Not go back up. The man I bought it from spent 3 hrs. on it and ended up putting it in backwards-so rolling it down, would have to be pulled up and the opposite for rolling it UP!! You get the idea, I thought it was something I could just Get used to--NOPE!! I had my first problem at the drive thru bank teller's window-cuz I Forgot-Next, Taco Bell!! That was IT!! If I can't go to a drive thru for something to eat-I Have to fix this Major problem! The rear window on the passenger's side went next!! Question is-will they take the same parts to fix?? It did what you said, I got it back Almost all the way back up, then it stopped. I don't have the money to take it to a repair shop, that's why I watch RUclips!! I Love it and really learn a Lot by watching you work. I have to at Least try it?! Thank you sincerely, Gloria HELP!!!
Good stuff man. Stumbled on your channel from a welding helmet review you did from last yr. Subbed to see if you used it lol. Looking for a good mig helmet, good for overhead stuff. I do lots of shitty rust repairs in tight spots. Looking for maximum protection from hot ones. Down the glove and in the shoe are my two favorites 🤣 totally agree on bmw being a puzzle

How do you repair if the window is stuck in up position? How do you get it manually down to unscrew from the window?
Thats a tough one. Usually you need to reach in and cut the cables to get it to some down far enough.

did you fix the issue or you just replace it with a new window regulator? I thought you going to modify that "tiny spool" in frame 7:31 for it not to pop out.
The small part cannot be bought separately. Everyone is selling a whole assembly you have to change which is IMO unnescessary as all you really need is the two "gliders". On the other hand those wires get stretched over time and in the end the last part would be those two rails. Wich doesn't cost that much to add to the whole assembly and it suddenly makes sense to replace it completely with a fresh assembly part. It is a thought that once you go through it starts to make sense in the end :)
You can remedy your problem for some time thou if you fix the mounting parts (where the screw/bolt meets the glass) so it won't allow any play in the movement. But even so I would advise you (or anyone) to get a new part and be done with it. One time job and you don't have to open the panel for some time again :)

Just yesterday I bought a 2004 X5 and today my drivers window won’t go up after putting it down to go thru a drive thru . THEN I get home and my door won’t open the handle seems wonky . So I crawled out the passenger . How much do you think those 2 things will cost ?
The door handle carriers and the window regulators are really common failures on all 4 doors. If your confident you can DIY or use an independent bmw specialist who will be used to these and do them well and cheaply. The dealers will cost a fortune for both parts and labour and may not see as many as this mainly effects older cars that may not usually be taken to an expensive dealership.
Handle carriers are about £20 for cheap upto about £50 for quality ones. Regulators are about £30-80. Some come with the motor too and are £20-30 more. Each door is different, use better quality parts to last longer and fit easier. Regulator repairs kits and window hold clips are also available separately from about £5-20 depending on what's in them but can take longer/more labour so only try if DIY'ing. Good luck

You went from wood trim to no wood trim when taking the door off with no explanation as to why u removed the trim off camera
There is a screw you need to remove to get the door panel off behind that 'wood' trim. The trim just pulls off; it's a friction fit using a few pins on the trim that press into the panel. Use a plastic trim tool so as not to mar the panel.
Or if it's frozen....
U skipped the hardest part of taking the bolts out and the motor 👎
Doesn't show how to actually remove the regulator....I can't roll my window down I can't see the clips you magic off not actually helpful
