I used this video to practice the stitches for your hat pattern, and it has been really helpful. Thank you! I have a question about the gauge for the hat: if the gauge is 14 stitches for 4" (as listed in the beginning of the e-book), then for a hat circumference of 20.5 inches you would need 14 x 5.125 stitches, which equals 71; however the hat instructions say to chain 54, which doesn't work for me. If I want to change the number of stitches from those given in the pattern, what multiple of stitches do I need to make the pattern work? I'm guessing the multiple is 3 or 6 (?). If I can find out the multiple of stitches necessary, I'm good to go. Thank you in advance!
Hi Ruth, glad the video could help you :) Am I guessing right, you talk about Evie's hat? The stitch pattern will make the hat quite stretchy, so the hat circumference needs to be smaller than the head circumference. (see page 15) However, I used Scheepjes Merino Soft, which is very very stretchy. If you want to substitute it with a more rigid yarn, then YES, you can go up in size. (Or use a slightly larger hook). The brim pattern has a repeat using 3 stitches (multiple of 3). BUT, If you look closely at the chart and the final rounds, you will need TWO repeats for this. So, unless you want to wing a little different closure, start the brim with a multiple of 6. I hope this helps you. I'll consider updating the pattern to make this more clear. Thanks for asking! I'm happy to assist if you need more help. If possible, then email me (email address in the written pattern). Sometimes RUclips notifications don't reach me.
@@StoneGnome Thank you so much (and I'm sorry I didn't see your email address in the written pattern). You have exactly answered my question: the multiple is 6. This is perhaps the most beautiful crocheted hat I've ever seen. I'm excited to begin work on it. Again, thanks!
