    Just wanted to say I totally love you for showing me this. We were told to glue the ear on our collies and we found this the easiest video. Great work. To anyone saying negative comments about training the ears, it's part of the standard. This is a functional thing in the working environment as well.

    Thank you!!! I have a border collie but this looks much easier than what I’ve been trying to do with moleskin and glue!

    What are some differences between gluing and taping a sheltie's ears? I am a first-time sheltie owner, and I'm trying to decide which would be better for my puppy. Thank you!

    How long will it have to stay like this?

    • @candescentshelties
      @candescentshelties  8 лет назад +2

      louisa Lavinia Becker I keep the cross brace in until the puppy is at least 6 months, then keep the tips folded over until about 14 months.

      @@candescentshelties how often do you replace the tape? I know you said there was a part that comes undone first, do you basically just redo the entire thing once something starts coming undone?

  • @janemitchell6537

    Do you take the brace out at anytime yourself to see how they are sitting , or do you just leave it alone until it comes out .Do you ever leave the brace off so the skin can air . If so how many days do you leave it out for

    • @candescentshelties
      @candescentshelties  8 лет назад +3

      Jane Mitchell I re- do the ears every 2 weeks. I use Unisolve to remove the tape, and give the puppy a bath. I leave them un-braced for 1, maximum 2 days. This is plenty of time to let the ears "rest" and for you to see how they are looking.

    But why??

    • @candescentshelties
      @candescentshelties  10 месяцев назад

      Many Sheltie owners like the look of a Sheltie with ears that tip forward. It softens the expression and the breed standard calls for erect ears that tip forward. Some people don’t care, and leave the ears to point straight up or flop down, and that is fine too.

    I have a sheltie pup and I'm trying to tip his ears using Tear Mender as I did my older sheltie buy the older one tears the tipping out when they're playing. I think your method might work better.
    I've never heard of Japanese tape and so far I haven't been able to find it in my area. It looks the same as surgical tape. Is there a difference?

    Yes great video for glueing ears, my question... I find very disturbing is all the crates some with dogs locked in them and very small crates. Yes most of out of there crate atm. From what I can see 3 high of 6 in a garage 18 crates from what I can see. I don’t know the situation of where this person lives or the set up in her garage as to heat or HVAC

    • @candescentshelties

      Tina, the dogs are not in small crates. These adult crates are 30", 1 size up from the recommended Sheltie size. Actually, since then, we upgraded to 36"crates. The top row of crates is not used. They are up there for storage, easy to grab to put in our vehicles and for dog shows. Yes there is heat and air conditioning out there...you can hear it running in the background. The garage is where our dogs eat (separately in their crates) and I do their grooming. The garage is 1 door away from the main house. Otherwise, they are right here in the house with me, with frequent play sessions in our huge back yard. Yes puppies are crated when we aren't watching them...they are being house trained!

      @@BeckyDFW it doesn't hurt them. It just softens the bark. And you don't get kicked out of the apartment that way. Please refer me to a good doctor

      @@TheDrakulie no that's horrible you should never debark a sheltie. If you don't like loud barks don't fucking get a sheltie. Are you serious? They won't bark all the time, and with proper training you can get them to stop with a cue. Shelties NEED their voice to herd. You do that and it's like not letting YOU speak for your whole life, because you speak too much. How would you feel? I get your point but it's just wrong.
