  • In the 1980s, Hollywood decided to pull out all the stops to make even bigger , over the top, big-budget car chase movie blockbuster extraveganzas. The car chase movies of late 1960s and 1970s established that there was indeed a voracious audience appetite for car stunts, crashes, explosions, and monumental amounts of automotive mayhem that proved popular and profitable. This video takes a wild ride down memory lane through that decade of decadence. So, strap in and hang on while we feature Awesome Smash-tastic 1980s Car Chase Films That You May Have Forgotten About.

The mall chase scene was filmed in the infamous Dixie Square Mall, which was only open from 1966-1978 and then stood abandoned for over 30 years after filming was complete... and the reason for so long an abandonment was that the town it was in couldn't scrape together the funds to demolish the place until about ten years ago

Who doesn't love a car chase. Nothin' like a rockem' sockem' fender bending brawl. I recall going to the theater to see the Blues Brothers and so many others. My original movie posters from these hang on the garage wall. As for classic cars..NO one gave a %%## about 99% of these vehicles. I ran a wrecking yard through most of the 80s and stacked and crushed thousands. Those Chrysler cars were worthless. Running copies were bought at sales for less than 200.00 while inops were pushed through at 35 to 50 bucks of which most were bought cored out and scraped. I do miss the 80s but I kept all my cool cars and still drive them today. Great video and good first choice.

My favourite car chases from the 1980s: "To live and die in L.A.", "Mad Max II" and "License to kill". "Beverly Hills Cop" had a nice chase in the beginning, but later it was more close to a comedy than to a real action movie. I would prefer the opening car chase from "Lethal Weapon 2". And "Smokey and the Bandit II" was lightyears behind the first film. Almost nothing works in that picture, not the story, not the action and not the humor. Much better: "Shakedown" (1987) from James Glickenhaus!

@@largol33t1 I have a Special Edition DVD of The Terminator, with a bunch of special features, including behind the scenes,"Making of" segments. The model they built was actually 5-6 feet long. Remember,it was actually kind of a low budget movie. The model was way cheaper than blowing up a real truck.

@@largol33t1 I just happened to look at this comment section again today, because I got a notification..."HOMEMADE pipe bomb..."-I realized it's kind of hilarious, when you think about it...Like they're mass produced somewhere, and you can go get a box full at Home Depot.😅

That's how awesome Chevys were...They could outrun The Terminator with no drivetrain at all! In a Ford,Sarah would be dead, and the machines would win! 🤣
(I've seen the movie a FEW times. And it WAS a Chevy. With a chrome roll bar. And push bar, too.)

what was the phrase used in one of the fast and furious movies again, ah, yeah: vehicular warfare. Best description of the chase in The Road Warrior aka Mad Max II.
the original Mad Max wasn't released in North America enough for the Mad Max II title to make sense so it was released as The Road Warrior in the US and Canada instead.

I saw a clip from an unreleased H B Halacki movie that had a chase with a semi truck very much like what was done in Beverly Hills Cop. Wonder which was done first.

Too bad only the 80's were included. It's hard to beat the 90's Robert DeNiro film "Ronin" for a couple of epic car chases.

A friend and I saw blues Brothers in 1980. We saw a lot of movies together. The final chase sequence I loved. But oddly enough, he soberly said that all those wrecked police cars could have been given to the poor. Frankly, especially since we have CGI today, I wonder if he was right. (RIP TCK 1954-1993)
