I had typed a full description of the airbrakes for the pressure leak right before Alex said what it was- I don't know if there's a ui app for air pressure, but there is a 'low pressure' alarm that's a loud buzzer, you can hear it from the interior view. The air brakes are supposed to lock on once air pressure gets between 25 and 50 psi, and the alarm goes off around 50-75 psi. If the leak is slow enough, the air compressor running off of the engine can compensate, and since it is either geared or run with belts (can't remember which way the T-Series went), it works better at higher engine speeds ALSO ALSO The transmission is kinda wonky, it does have 10 gears in a way, but it involves switching from low to high range for each gear and isn't generally worth faffing with unless you're struggling for power. It literally goes 1 Low, 1 High, 2L, 2H, 3L, etc.
@@blargleschnartz He did say that they'd started out with it full up but it kept falling over so had to go down to roughly 1/3rd full... Also I was going to say something about the gearing also, was going to explain it a little different though so may still make a separate comment unless someone's beaten me to it.

0:33 Ah, don't worry, Alex. We all make mistakes sometimes. Besides, think of it as you're giving us the classic 2015-17 "best video quality" experience! XD
Glorious video. I know it's not generally your style but if you still have the sim rig is there any chance you could do a face/wheel cam of the driving with a wheel?
15:27 the way the "10 speed" works in the T-series is first 1 Low, then 1 High, 2 Low, 2 High, 3 Low etc. So if you wanna use all 10 gears you have to keep flicking between low and high range too... but yeah 5H is the highest gear. It's a bit annoying when you're on controller and you don't have enough buttons for everything.
It did used to be different but they implemented that weird change with the remaster. Old type was essentially like going up and down through the gears on a conventional 10-speed (like someone posted an example shift pattern for on Amy's discord recently) but the range shift was handled for you. I'm not really sure that this is, it's kind of like a... 15-speed?? (if we consider a variant of the 13-speed that's instead based on the 10 and with all of the high range gears splittable), but it's locked into high range and the total spread of gears is somewhat wide and biased short to compensate. Luckily for this kind of use where the truck is running relatively light and you don't need the intermediate gears (which would have been the odd numbered ones previously) to get started or keep steady speed uphill, you can just run it with the splitter in the high position and shift it like a (presumably dog-leg) car type 5-speed. It's definitely a pain in the backside even on keyboard, if you're trying to do it properly with a heavy load and it's basically impossible to hit the gear and range combo at the same time. I'd have hoped that the new system where it stays in neutral as long as you hold the key may have helped (along with the manual clutch override) to perform more realistic shifts without a H-pattern accessory, or something could have been done where you could more easily signal a block-shift of at least two gears with a double tap or whatever. Or it automatically went up or down the range and moved the virtual gearstick to the most logical next position in the pattern when you tried to shift up at the top of low or down at the bottom of high, plus adding three-range boxes to have proper gear splitting in high... But presumably this was the best compromise in terms of ease of use after trying various things? Still, I'd like there to be a selectable alternative for having 10 directly selectable gears like the classic T-series, if there isn't one there already I might just make my own.
Stopping or stalling shouldn't be an immediate issue with the leaking pressure tank. You loose pressure over time if you have low (or no) rpm, but slowly gain it back if the engine runs again (even in neutral). In fact, we have an old big american school bus / camper, and all the pressure pipes aren't perfect anymore. This just means that it looses brake and suspension pressure a little quicker when stopped and may take a bit longer to start, but in general it's fine.
The trick on diesel locos (which have that kind of problem in spades given how their airbrakes work and the sheer amount of air needed to operate a long train) seems to be to put it in neutral (meaning in this case the generator isn't connected to either the forwards or backwards circuits on the motors) and rev the engine up. Compressor being run directly off the engine crank = brakes recharge and release nearly 5x faster with it wide open at ~950rpm than idling a little below 200. Probably don't need to redline it on a road vehicle but manually keeping a higher than standard idle should help.
have you considered doing one of these challenges from hood or driver cam? Having all the drivers limited by that kind of thing could be interesting! (Hoods flipping to cover could be accounted for by allowing drivers to pull over and detach troublesome parts)
I always get such vitriol and absurdity saying this exactly about most videos and games. People all clamber for 1080p 60 frames or 4k 60 frames. Like look man you got spoiled on quality, 720p is fine. Our eyes don't need more than 30 frames even. The whole argument is absurd and partially why we have more expensive games with lower content quality. Studios try to design games to run on as much as possible within reason. Tell them to target such high sustained numbers they are gonna charge more.
@@Aliyah_666 He was talking about the recording, he was definitely running the game at higher resolution and framerate, possibly QHD. And you can definitely tell a difference between 30 and 60, and indeed 60 and higher rates (heck, things are even noticeably smoother in Windows when my montior's at 240 instead of 60), though there's diminishing returns. Still, for watching something like this, it's perfectly fine. Lived most of my life with 576i50 TVs, and gaming at no more than 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 with systems where 30fps was pretty good going. And like someone else said (I think maybe on HtS), consistent moderate framerate is better than swinging between 60fps and 6fps because the hardware can't deal with the rendering when there's a lot going on. And I tend to have Beam locked at 40fps (and 1080p windowed) as that seems reasonably smooth to me without causing my laptop to melt into a pool of undifferentiated sludge, so 30 wouldn't be so much of a downgrade, at least after a little time to get used to it (it'd seem a little crunchy in comparison at first)
Beam doesn't really have proper snow or other dynamic terrain... "yet"... is the thing. Heck, weather is only seen as a mostly cosmetic thing, and then in a few mods that specifically include it. Nice idea but it might be a few years until anything like that happens, and I have to wonder if that might need such a radical overhaul of the engine that it would justify making a whole new-new-generation which would be a separate thing at cost (the money earned off initial purchases of the early versions can't sustain free updates forever, sadly)
i must say, whenever everyone has a suitable PC, we need to see the crashhard 8x8, as its got a big ram plow and generally the most beastly stop the beast you can get
