That's my original thought as well and many others like me, but that inspector may spot defect quicker than some of us. He might also impressed his supervisors dozen of times before they let him do that. Like you said, safety is on the line, this include reputation as well. Anyway, I'm very impressed by all the fast workers on this video. I wonder how they do it? ;)
For anyone asking about the train, that inspector is checking for abnormal conditions in a really short amount of time, he doesn’t have the time to check each screw because he has to check the whole train before it takes off. Since he is so fast I am pretty sure he knows where to look. Normally a mistake that can cause damage to a train should be big and I am pretty sure he can spot it.

This is what so many people lack. Passion to get really good at something! It’s not about that specific task at hand, it’s about the broader picture of having the drive to be the best. To be extremely efficient.
It amazes and saddens me how adept and fast some people are at their jobs. I'm amazed because they are so skilful and quick - through long practice - but also sad because that exceptional competency and speed confirms that they haven't been able to get themselves promoted out of that job for a very long, time!!
